My guiding question was, "How did the Roman amphitheaters affect the Roman people?"
Well, I have found that the amphitheaters gave Romans a sense of pride. This is so because going to the games meant that their empire was strong, successful, and wealthy. After discovering concrete, the Romans were building amphitheaters all over the vast stretch of the empire. The Romans were also reminded of their proud history of well won battles and glorious victories. The Romans were reminded because occasionally the gladiators would play out scenes from ancient battles just as a reminder. The amphitheater was also adorned with beautiful carvings of the Gods. The spectators paid their respects and there were often human sacrifices. Today Roman amphitheaters don't affect the world as much as they used to, but they are still used as tourism sites and a place to learn about the glory of the Roman Empire and the magnificent amphitheaters.
I learned a lot from other projects, like they used tar in the Babylonian gardens to prevent rot in the structure. I also learned that Romans used quite a few (very interesting looking) tools for farming. Also, that the Retiarii gladiators used nets and tridents as weapons. I believe that people learned a lot from the World History Fair and I look forward to seeing my sister's project next year when she is in seventh grade.

I thought the way Little Rock Nine got treated was horrible. The other kids made fun of and teased them. I don't know if I would have had the courage to do what Earnest Green did. He pushed through and never gave up. He was very brave and strong to overcome the challenges that lay before him. I admire Earnest for doing what is right and trying to fight for an education even though he understood what he would endure. Sometimes I wonder if racists put themselves in other people's shoes. I mean, it's not their fault that they look the way they are! They can't choose who they are or what they look like. People shouldn't be ashamed of who they are and if people are going to discriminate then that's their problem. No one should have to endure what Earnest Green went through, they should be able to be happy with who they are.

I actuallyhave finished Seedfolks and my favorite chapter is the one with the tomatoes. I'm not going to spoil it for those of you who haven't gotten that far yet but I must say that chapter is very heartfelt. I think that the overall message of the book is awesome, but the author could have written a nicer ending. I thought that the ending was horrible! Other than that thought I really liked the book. Like I said I'm not going to spoil it for those who haven't read that far so.....Anyway, my thought on the activities is an okay one. I don't think that the activities are as entertaining as they could be. I mean I love plants and all that but the activities involving them could be better. Such as the library doing plants, I think that it's a wonderful idea to grow something in your library, but it would be a lot more interesting if we could expand on that just a little. I also believe that the activities in academics were a little bland. I think that painting rocks could have been something more interesting for a substitute (sorry Mrs. Lubich!). If I could decide what the activities were to be I would definitely say that we should grow a school garden or raise a class pet or something like that. Still, the activities we did still related to Seedfolks so, if the people who organized the activities had the goal to really relate to Seedfolks, well then......... bull's eye!

My project has been a little conflicting seeing that my 3-D model has been changed over the time that was given to me to finish it. At first, I was going to make my model out of sugar-cubes. Then I realized that sugar-cubes would take way too long and it would weigh too much. So, when I realized this I looked for other possible solutions for a 3-D model of an amphitheatre. I found that styrofoam would work well so I went to a craft store and looked for some. It turns out that they didn't have any left. I didn't really have any idea what else to make it out of. That was until my mom gave me the idea to make a cake. At first I was confused, then I started to understand what she was saying. A cake would be the perfect model! Plus, when I'm done with it I can simply eat it! So I made a cake and it turned out very well which surprised me. See, I'm not the best cook but, I managed to make it all by myself! Then there was the board I had to deal with. I decided in the end that I should put a huge blow-out picture on my board. I chose a nice picture of an amphitheatre, saved it on a flash-drive and took it to FedEx. I had it printed up in about five minutes and glued it on. The whole thing cost around $3. After that it was simply a matter of printing, cutting, and pasting. Finally I finished!

I also need name ideas! So far if it's a boy, then I was thinking about Forest (like Forest Gump), or Frodo from Lord of the Rings. If it's a girl I came up with really random names like Sherry or Amelie. Please comment!

I have been contemplating getting a parakeet. My dad said that if I could convince him he would let my sister and I get one each. So, I made him a powerpoint. I skyped him yesterday and he told me that if I could find at least three people willing to look after them he would let us get one. I've been looking for someone to look after them but I also need to be well informed on parakeets. Please, anyone who has owned or owns a parakeet or budgie comment!!!! I need cons and pros on parakeets!!!

When we dissected chicken wings, I found that chickens are lot muscular than I thought they were. The skin was also really difficult to remove from the wing. So I pretty much peeled it off. Some parts of the dissection were kind of gross. Especially when the fat got sticky. The dissection wasn't as gross as I thought it would be. (thankfully) In fact, it was pretty interesting.

I really like learning about cells because I love the work we have been doing to study them. I also like the diagrams we use and the hands on experience that we’re doing with the microscopes. I like looking at the cells in focus. Things are so much cooler in focus! I also thought that learning about the cell’s main functions was cool too. I learned that the nucleus is the control system and the Golgi Bodies are a place to store proteins.

My goals for 2012 is to plant an enormous garden, and improve my knowledge in herbology. I really love gardenning and I have already started an indoor garden. As for herbology, I have always shown interest in the healing powers of plants. I have always admired the natural way plants can be a cure for many illnesses.

Right now I am reading "Gregor the Overlander and the Code of Claw." It's about a boy from New York who falls down a vent into an underland world where people ride on giant bats and at war with giant rats. I like this series because it has a lot of suspense and the author was very creative in writing it.

This week I'm going to talk about my indoor garden. I have planted tomatoes, radishes, broccoli, watermelon, and zuchinni. On the bottom of the soil I added compost that my mom and I have started last year and it finally turned into dirt ! I planted these seeds about five weeks ago and now they're pretty big. Especially the watermelon. I can't wait until they're big enough to transplant outside.

I think that most poets use rhyme to make their poems more catchy and interesting. Rhyme also helps people who read the poem remember it. Imagery helps people paint a picture in their mind, and if it's a good picture, then they will remember it. I think that by saying, "a poem "begins in delight and ends in wisdom." Robert Frost means that we can really learn things from poems. We can learn things from poems yet they were also meant to please.

I would choose "Believe you can and you're halfway there." Theodore Roosevelt. I think this quote means that when you believe in yourself you can do anything. I can apply this to everyday life, by having more confidence in myself. If I can use this quote help me have more confidence in myself I can become stronger and face my fears. I also think that if I can believe in myself other people will catch on and start becoming more confident. When they do this the act will spread and every one will start believing in themselves more. I think that if I act on this quote, it will start a chain reaction and the world will be a better place.

I don't really like this project, I think that it was really hard to communicate with everyone. The wiki didn't really work for me. I was pretty stressed about the photo story because of the occasional lack of communication. Though, I liked how easy photo story was to use. I liked how it was all planned out and all I had to do was add photos and click next and so on. I think that the communication in my group was okay, I think that it might have gone better. I had heard about other problems with communication and related to mine I think that went pretty well. I think that the biggest problem people had was communication with the people in Louisiana. I heard a lot of complaints about this. I think that next year the project shouldn't be too involved with the wiki. I think that it was just hard to figure out.

Greece has been known for many years for its culture and different legends and tales. Greece is located in the southeast end of Europe. The Greeks believe in polytheism. This means that they believe in many gods. The capital of Greece is Athens. The head of the Greek government is the prime minister. The national anthem of Greece is, "Ymnos eis tin Eleftherian" (Hymn to Liberty). Greece gained independence in 1829 (from the Ottoman Empire). A national holiday in Greece is, Independence Day, 25 March (1821). There are thirteen administrative regions in Greece. The official language is Greek 99%other English and French) 1%.
In humanities, I was assigned the city-state Corinth. Our group has designed a logo that includes, a big blue c, four stars to represent the four members of our group, and our names. We have been having a lot of luck in the fates. Aphrodite was impressed with the beauty of our women, this gave us forty points. We have also decided that we should wear white colored shirts referring to the peace in our land. The reason for this is that Corinth is not so much of a fighting city state, but more artistic. Corinth is known for it's pottery and fishing. I am very happy to get Corinth in this simulation for our group had decided that we all liked it. We were not so much interested in war tactics than we were in artistic ability.

It was a fine morning
Nothing was boring
The air was crisp and filled with snow
I added caramel to my marshmallow
I toasted next to a fire
As gazed upon my treat with great desire
I slowly bent down to pick it up
When in flew a plump young duck
I grabbed my torch and flung with fury
Apparently, it was in no hurry
It might have escaped had I not closed the shutter
The duck tried again with a great flutter
I flung again and this time bullseye
I feasted that night on a delicious duck pie.
I simply decided to write a poem. Though, I did eat duck the other night.

There are many things to be thankful for this time of year. First, I am very thankful for being with family. Even though my dad is gone most of the time, I am thankful when he is here. Another reason why I should be thankful is because I have food to eat everyday. Some people don't have anything to to eat at all. Plus my mom only feeds me food that is healthy and organic. This diet doesn't always taste the best, but it keeps me healthy and free to do what want. I am also very thankful that we have a week off of school just to feel thankful. This time should really be spent reflecting on just how lucky we all are. When you look back and relate to what some people have compared to what you have I find that we really take what we have for granted. Whenever I see something devastating on tv I realize how much I have and feel very thankful.

The best mystery I ever read was, "Sherlock Holmes and The Speckled Band." This is my favorite because I don’t normally read mysteries. Since I am not familiar with mysteries I just chose the first one that came to my head. I also thought that this story was the best out of all of the mysteries I have ever read because, I like all of the suspense and the way Holmes is so mysterious. I like how he keeps you reading until you are satisfied with the ending.
I think that the best beginning for a mystery would be…….
It was pitch black. I knew I had to get out of there. There was only one way in and out. I kept hearing strange noises. No doubt they were trying to torture me out of my mind. I had been a day since I had gone into this dreadful cottage. On the outside, a friendly looking vacation home made out of ginger bread and candy. Now, a damp dark prison in which I was now being held. I had to get out of here. I was slowly going insane. I knew that there was a witch outside my cellar. I could hear my brother scream as her wicked hands enveloped him. I kept trying to remember how I got here, but with the fear that I would meet my brother’s same fate, it wasn’t so easy. I couldn’t really tell if my brother’s life was ended or not, but I had to get out of here. It was a while until I heard an eerie voice break the silence. The witch! She sang a dreadful little tune to herself,
The stove is hot and as is the pot,
The girl is fat and the stew is tasty,
She is the final ingredient,
I will add her to the stew,
Then I shall dine upon her flesh.

I think that blogging is awesome! I really like typing a lot better than writing so I am having a great time blogging. Before we started, I had no I had no idea what a blog was. Now I really love it! The only thing that I really don't like is commenting. When you try to enter the captcha code, it tells you that it isn't correct. Even though you know that it's right. This is so frustrating! That's really the only problem that I have. I really think that blogging is a fast and efficient way to show your perspective on different topics. As for my opinion on blogging instead of writing assignments, I think that this is a great idea! Since I like typing better than writing, this will be perfect. Blogging is a great experience for me, and I think that every class should have it.

We must always remember those who laid down their own lives to protect this nation. Many lives were lost and many will be. Even though these proud people will risk their lives, they risk them with honor. These people are defendants of justice and liberty. They believe that they can make a difference, and they do. These people are the Army.
Please give me feedback.

Moammar Gadhafi is a very popular current event. When I found out that he had died, I was relieved because I then knew that a lot of people would feel much more safe. I learned that Moammar Gadhafi was a dictator who ruled with a heavy hand so the people of Libya will probably be happy to finally be free of his rule. There is another subject that is very important also. Who will govern Libya? Now that Moammar Gadhafi is dead who will be in charge? The people of Libya might start a war over the matter. If Libya were to elect someone as leader would this new leader provide justice? Or would he repeat Moammar Gadhafi's acts? Even though Libya might be celebrating or even mourning, they have a long road ahead of them.

Right now I am Reading The Hunger Games, by Suzanne Collins. I like this book because it is very thrilling, but it is also very sad that there is quite a bit of death. It keeps you hanging on waiting to find out what happens next even though you realy want to put it down. I think that this book is great but I don't recomend it because you can't beleive sometimes that these things are actually happening and it really annoys you. At the end its not the best because there is a terrible death. Though still it had me waiting for more.

Once upon a time, there lived a man named Crisho. He lived in the mountains far away from anybody else. He was a very solitary man who thought that the only friends that he needed were the animals and the everlasting stretch of land that he lived upon. Little did he know that high in the clear blue sky exsisted the legendary three faces. Some say that the faces could fix the most desperate problems yet at a sudden moment, change their minds and torture their clients to death. The only way to be sure that the faces would grant your most daring wishes was to complete a quest in which the faces sent you on. Most who tried to fullfill these quests almost never returned. Crisho had no idea that far above, the three faces lay in silent watch. The faces were looking for their next client, since their last one had been blown to bits. Nobody dared to ask after the dreadfull news had been reported. Feeling bored the faces agreed that Crisho would be their next customer. So they sent a bird with a small vile down to Crisho. Crisho was in his garden when he saw a little bird come and perch on his fence. Delighted by the iridescent plumage on the bird he wondered if the bird could sing as beautifully as it looked. As he waited for music he noticed that bird had a small vile atatched to its leg. He went to the bird and untied the vile. Crisho unfastened the lid and looked inside. Unfortunately He made the mistake of taking in a deep breath. All of a sudden Crisho falls to the ground unconcious. Just before Crisho's eyes close he sees the bird give an evil grin. The next thing he knows he wakes up feeling very lonely. An emotion he has never had before felt and yet this longing can't be fufilled by his original companions. No, this longing can only be satisfied by the presence of other human beings. The next day Crisho feels lonlier than ever. Finally he decides to set out on a quest in search of companionship. After a week of traveling he stumbles upon a village, sick and near death. At the sight of other people Crisho feels complete. He lays down content, wating for death. Moments from the end he spots a young boy fall to his knees beside him. The young boy is strong enough to carry him so he leans down felling pitty for the man. Soon after, Crisho awakes in a small hut with the boy preparing a remedy by a small stove. Crisho looks around himself, it isn't much, but he notices that it is raining outside. Then he has second thoughts about wanting to be out of the cramped hut. The boy notices that the man is awake, so he walks over to him and tells him that his name is Darin. Crisho is happy that he has found a friend. At that moment the faces are looking down on Crisho. They are not content at all that Crisho has not suffered in finding friendship. So they take Darin out of the hut and chain him to a volcano across the sea. They leave a message saying Darin's location and that he will die in three days time if he is not rescued. Crisho, devastated that his new friend is near death can't help but feel that he is in Darin's debt. So with his strength renewed, he sets off for the volcano. When he reaches the port where he is to cross the sea, he realizes that he does't have any money. So he goes into a nearby cafe and sits down feeling weary and hopeless. At the table next to him he overhears someone say, "Did you hear about the faces? Apparently they can grant any wish. They can do just about anything!"
Crisho hearing this feels his hopes rise, but he leaves before he has time to hear about the consequences. Outside Crisho looks up and words come to him out of nowhere. Suddenly he feels himself being lifted up. Before he can realze what is happening he finds himself in the house of the faces. They all ask him simultaneously what do wish for Crisho? He stares up in bewilderment and manages to mumble out the words, " Money and time o faces."
They all smile and tell him that he can only have one of the things that he desires. Crisho asks for some time to think. Thoughts run rapidly through his mind and he finally comes to a decision. He asks for a boat. The faces discuss things among themselves and they turn back at Crisho. The faces give him an evil grin and disapear. In their places he finds probably the worst boat on earth. He sighs, he saw this coming but he didn't think it would be this bad. He takes his "boat" and brings it to the port. As he sets off he hears people laughing at him, but he looks straight ahead determined to find his friend. The journey is hard and tiresome but he finally makes it to the other shore. Pressed for time he rushes on. When he reaches the volcano he is beside himself with fear. Determined he moves on and up the fiery mountain. When he reaches Darin he is disapointed with himself for thinking that it would this easy. Darin tries to warn him but its too late a large burst of flame comes from behind him. As he tries to put out the flames, Darin throws him a sword. Crisho catches it and tries to ward off the beast and unchain Darin at the same time. Finally Darin is free, but the dragon seeing a look of relief on Crisho's Face takes it as an opportunity and siezes Crisho. Crisho, trapped in the horrible monster's grasp takes a swing with the sword and takes off the beast's head. It falls to the ground with Crisho still in its grasp.Darin rushes to Crisho and helps him out of the wicked claws. Darin and Crisho are overwhelmed with joy. The faces are not quite as satisfied but they pretend that it was all planned. Crisho and Darin return back to the lovely home in the mountains where their friendship lives on.

I think that books of any kind should not be banned anywhere. If we have the freedom of speech, by all means we should use this right in order to protect literature! Most books being banned happen to give very informative pieces of history. There are also a few rare ones from older generations that give very important life lessons. So with the help from our rights we should step up and defend our right to read!

I had so much fun on this feild trip! My favorite part of this field trip was when we used the plastic to get the ball to the can. I really liked this activity because it really enforced teamwork. We really had to work as a team in order to succeed. My favorite activities were, the island challenge and the obstacle course. These were fun because in the island game we had to find a way to get across. Just as I was about to step onto the other island, someboy dropped a magic stone so we had to start all over again. I think that the best thing that I learned is that every team needs a leader, as well as active participants. This was a great feild trip and I hope that everybody had as good a time as I did!

The first thing wrong in this video is that the chef thinks that 7x13=28. Even though this is wrong he makes it look like this is the correct answer. One place where he went wrong was when he was writing out the multiplication on the chalk board. Apparently he believes that you can "reuse" numbers so he used the 2 again without the other guy realizing it. the next thing he did wrong was in the addition where he didn't carry the two. If he had carried the 2 he would have gotten 91. Other possible equations would include,
6,12=18
5,14=25.

Funniest Thing:
The funniest thing that ever happened to me was when I lived in Kansas. I was just moving in and I saw that we had a sliding glass door. I saw my dog playing out in the yard. The whole time I was looking out the door and it must have been really clean because I thought that it was open. I took a running start and ran to the door (which I thought was open). I jumped up to make it over the step to go outside and, I slammed right into the glass and fell back on my back on the tile. My parents started laughing their heads off and all I could do was lay there dumbstruck. Eventually I started laughing too, but the crash left a nasty bruise for about a week after.

I think that all schools need this moving assembly because it makes you realize all of the bad things that can happen. It also gives you ideas of what you can do to make a difference, or to start a chain reaction like Rachel did. It also helps us to get the most out of things while we can and to forgive people that we find is hard to. I think that a very important lesson learned from this assembly is to accept others the way they are. This organization is very touching and I think that all schools should know just what Rachel did to make a difference.
