It the End!

Article posted May 19, 2012 at 10:06 PM GMT • comment • Reads 951

I've had an awesome time as a 7th grader this year. The teachers that I had were amazing. I know I will never forget team 743. This was my first year at Mountain Ridge and I'm really glad that I'm leaving as a happy 7th grader. I made lots of new friends and learned a lot. The thing that I learned the hard way is my World History Fair. It didn't turn out as good as I expected but, I did it. It was because I did it at the last minute. Honestly, it was easier then I thought. An advice that I would give out is, not to stress out about projects and things like this. It always turns out to be no big deal at the end. One thing that I would like to do next year in 8th grade is to enjoy it. Since I know people in this school now, I hope I could have a fun year with my friends. Well, I just really want to thank Mrs.Lubich, Mr.Howard, Ms.Kosters, Mrs.Gagnon, and finally Mrs.Marr. Even though Mrs. Marr came at the end she was still a very nice teacher. So, thank you for letting me have a great year and have a great summer!

International Towne

Article posted May 16, 2012 at 01:45 AM GMT • comment • Reads 539

International Towne was great. I didn't expect it to be that fun. I wasn't really looking foward to it but, it turned out to be awesome! I learned how to spend money wisely and learned about our country. If I were to change something I would change the lunch system. I didn't like to sit on the floor and eat. Other than that, it was all good. My favorite memory of International Towne was, being the customs agent. I enjoyed selling items from our country, meeting new people, and stamping their passports. I loved International Towne and I wish I could go there again!

World History Fair

Article posted May 12, 2012 at 04:08 PM GMT • comment • Reads 565

My guiding question is: Why is Japanese calligraphy so significant?

World history influences our world by so much. World history is basically news from the ancient times into our time period. We wouldn't know that China first invented the abacus, the calculater. Which then, later people from around the world made into a self working calculater. I learned that Japanese calligraphy all started of in China.

All the 7th grade projects were amazing. It was very fun to go around the gym and look at all the 7th graders project. From one student I learned that Cleopatra was once together or in love with Julius Caesar.

Seedfolks

Article posted May 5, 2012 at 09:53 PM GMT • comment • Reads 605

I think the main idea about this book is probably about the community coming together by farming. Everyone so far in this book had something to do about farming. The charcter that I dislike so far is Ana. She ruined the little girl's plants because she thought the girl was up to no good. I think all the activites we did were very fun, especially because it took away from our class time! My favorite activity was Mr. Howards "recycled flowers." It was very fun. I wish we can do all the activites again.

I'm am very excited for pajama day. I didn't know if this school was going to have one but, after I found out I was very happy. I think it's a great idea for us to pay $1.00 and get to wear our pj's well at least the bottems. I know a lot of people will participate which means the school is going to make money fast. $1.00 adds up very quickly especially with all the students in our school. I can't wait!

Chicken Wings

Article posted April 3, 2012 at 08:04 PM GMT • comment (1) • Reads 754

I think some of us had a great time in science. The reason why I say some is because not all of us actually touched the chicken wing. I thought it was half fun and half disgusting. I thought it was fun because we all got to come together as a group and have fun and laugh together. I thought it was worth while because we all got to learn a lot of new things. I learned that if a muscle is attached to a bone you can pull that muscle and the bone will move. This is what I thought of the chicken wing lab.

I wish....

I was an airplane flying
to where I want to go for
free and flying people to
their destination safely,
people stare with jaws
open and see how mighty
I am.

Ernest Green

Article posted March 17, 2012 at 07:00 PM GMT • comment • Reads 695

My reaction to the story was an angry reaction. They are being discriminated just because of their race but on the inside they were just like the rest of the other students. I would have not gone to that school if people would do that to me. I definetly would not have had the courage to go back to that school after what they have done. Espesially not to fight back. In the present, things have changed a lot. Mostly everybody these days accepts who they are and who others are, not depending on their race. Two examples of discrimination going on today is usually people who are not very skinny and people that are special ed. People always makes fun of them but in reality they didn't ask to be like that. That's just who they are and we need to learn how to accept that.

Quotes

Article posted March 3, 2012 at 07:18 PM GMT • comment • Reads 706

The quote that I have chosen is "When one door of happiness closes, another opens, but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one that has been opened for us." - Helen Keller

When happiness is no longer there
We look for other objects
That think makes us happy
But just because there is a smile on our face
Doesn't mean that's true happiness
No that's false happiness
You can't buy happiness nor receive it
But you have to feel it on the inside

This what I thought this quote meant to me.

Cells!

In science we have been learning a ton! We're learning so much it's hard to cram it all in my head! It's been very fun doing the labs and partner work. Some of it was fun and some of it was just plain boring. But I liked how we all got a chance to look at different cells and organisms up close by using a microscope. If I could do this unit again I would probably would say yes.I wish every unit was like this!

Towards School

In the morning at 7:00 a.m Despite the sun beyond the glistening sea
Into the covers
To the couch
To the bathroom
Past the bed
Inside the car
Towards the school
Through the school doors
To the horrifying teachers To hear them talk
Until the ringing bell

Books

Article posted February 6, 2012 at 06:03 PM GMT • comment • Reads 821

Currently I am reading the book Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie by Jordan Sonnenblick.  It is a great book.  Steven  which is the main character is a 7th grade boy who has a brother that is diagnosed with leukemia. Now Steven has to figure out how to deal with his situation. The part I like about this book is that all the things in this book can actually happen. It has a lot of facts about the illness that Steven's brother Jeffery has. It is a great book and I would recommend it to people who don't like to read.

Giants

Article posted February 6, 2012 at 04:34 AM GMT • comment • Reads 846

Lately, a lot of people have been talking bad about the New York Giants and that they will be losing their games. But, they were all wrong. As a Giants fan I couldn't stand it so, when they won all their games that everybody said they were going to lose, I wore my jersey to show them who really is the best team. Today I was watching the Super Bowl and I know a man who bet $50 that the Patriots would win. Well that man just lost his $50 while I was jumping up and down celebrating the victory of the New York Giants. This was a great season and I hope the Giants will win again next season too.

Poetic Effects

Article posted January 31, 2012 at 05:21 AM GMT • comment • Reads 749

There are many "tools" that poets use. For example, figurative language, simile, metaphors, personification, hyperbole. Each one of these figurative languages can create a different emotion and mood. Another one could be imagination. What I've realized is that a lot of poets like Dr. Seuss and Shel Silverstien use imagination. Imagination can really make the story come alive and fun to read. There are a lot more "tools" but these were just two of them.

2012

Article posted January 16, 2012 at 06:47 AM GMT • comment • Reads 803

This new year I really want to make a lot of changes. One of them would be to read books. I don't like books at all. I only read them if I have to. I recently made a bet with my cousin to read 20 books from now to the end of the quarter. If I accomplish the books she picked out for me, I will get a prize up to $150 of whatever I want. My other goal is to study. My parents always bug me to study and it annoys me very much. So, I just want to do it on my own and hopefully they'll stop. I'll just have to wait and see what my grades will be after I read books and study a lot more. In conclusion these were some of my goals for the year of 2012.

Wiki Reflection

Article posted December 16, 2011 at 05:46 PM GMT • comment • Reads 943

This wiki project went pretty well in my opinion. I just wish we had a little more time so that people won't be so stressed out about it, like me. Working in a group was a little bumpy because you didn't know what was going on sometimes. For example, where the video was located. But, we figured that situation out. The communication went fairly well. We had a little miscommunication here and there but it all worked out. If I would have done something differently I would have communicated a little bit better with group and other than that everything was very good. What went well was we did an awesome job at finishing up our page. Our video is going great so far but, we just need one more person to record. I would keep our group the same and I would like to communicate differently next time. This was how my project went.

Greece

Article posted December 11, 2011 at 01:51 AM GMT • comment • Reads 1279

I don't really know a lot about Greece. So far I only know the basic information about our city-state. Our city-state is Corinths. I know that we are known for our bronze and we can't let the Athenians or Spartans beat us at anything we do. We can let the others beat us but never the Spartans or the Athenians. All we did so far in humanities was make our chants, make our symbols, get escorted by the men, earn points for our city-states, and learn to sing the greek alphebet.

Thanks and Giving

Article posted November 19, 2011 at 09:28 PM GMT • comment • Reads 1193

There are many things that I am greatful for. Just three of them are family, friends, and my country. I am very thankful for my parents because they are always there to support me even when I get on their last nerves. Many people don't have a family like me that's why I'm thankful for my family. Second, I'm thankful for my friends, not only do they support me but they entertain me too. Lastly, I'm thankful for my country. Not a lot of countries are free like ours and we take that for granted. we are so lucky we can do the things we want like freedom of religion. Some countries have to worship whoever they say to worship but, our country doesn't. This is why I'm very thankful for all the things I have. What are you thankful for?

It's a Mystery

Article posted November 13, 2011 at 12:52 AM GMT • comment • Reads 1121

The best mystery story that I ever read would probably be  "The Oblong Crate" . The author kept making guesses of what was in the crate.  But all those guesses were wrong. It wasn't  until the captain finally revealed what was in the crate that I stopped guessing. For a moment I thought they wouldn't announce it. That is what a good mystery needs. He wanted us to predict and get those kinds of conclusions so that when we finally think we know the answer he changes it up and goes the other way like a U turn.  I love mysteries that is my favorite genere (even if it's scary).  So this is why  "The Oblong Crate" was the best mystery I ever read.

Story starter:

"GET OUT !" The old man screamed. He chased the kid with his cane shouting " YEAH YOU BETTER RUN AND DON'T COME BACK AGAIN !" Jack almost having a heartattack said " Whew, Sarah that was a close one." Sarah replied " See Jack I told you not to go inside his house."  Jack and Sarah were two adventurous kids who always got into trouble. Jack said " Sarah I really wonder what was in that red box he had."

" I dont know Jack we better go before.... AHHHHH=http://

Blogging

Article posted November 6, 2011 at 03:40 AM GMT • comment • Reads 1541

These past few months of blogging was great. I think it was a fun experience for me because I have never blogged before. It's great because we can all share our thoughts on how we feel. My experience was ok because this not only was homework but a grade too. I always have to remember to these blogs before friday or on friday. I think blogging has been going smoothly for me. My opinon on doing writing assignments on blogging would be no. My answer would be no because I don't really like to write and I don't like them as homework or assignments eighther and I'm sure I'm not the only one. This is what I think. So, the past few months of blogging was an excellent experience and I hope it will be for the rest of the school year.

The book I am reading right now is called The Name of this Book is Secret. It is a great book for non-readers like me. This book contains a secret that we do not know yet. I think the author did a great job leveling to our age to make this book so funny and fun for us kids. The author's name is Pseudonymous Bosch. Even the name is funny and so is the first page you read and the next one it just goes on. I can't put down this book. This is a great book and I recomend it for all ages. You too can find out this horrible secret just check this book out at a local library near you. Get reading!

To Ban or Not to Ban?

Article posted September 30, 2011 at 04:40 AM GMT • comment • Reads 1862

I am not a big fan of reading but I think this is not right. There are some books that interests me but some don't. Some of my friends love to read and can't put down a book! Freedom of speech comes into play when we do not have the right to read certain books that we are interested in. I personally think that this is not right because people can't tell us what books we can or cannot read. Twilight for example is one of the many books that have been banned or restricted. So many people saw the movie and read the books. Adults and children love them. Even though some books may not be popular some people might like them. Books should not be banned because we the people have the freedom and right to vote and to choose. This is what I think about banning books.

Fox Run Adventure

Article posted September 30, 2011 at 04:25 AM GMT • comment • Reads 1658

That day was a very cold day but only in the morning. I was freezing. The day got warmer as we played, laughed, and as the sun came up. My favorite part of the field trip was the egg race. We had to have encouragement and sportsmanship to make it through the cones. It was also more of a competition which I like. The activites I liked were all of them, they were all fun and I learned a lot by having fun. I also got to know people I really didn't know. I learned that it's very hard for animals to survive in the wild. They could run out of food anytime and not have anymore. They might also be the prey and not the predator so they have to be very careful. I also learned that humans like us are very lucky because, we can go to the store and buy whatever we need whenever we need it. This field trip was very fun and I hope we have something like this again this year.

Math? Huh?

The baker did the wrong way of solving the problem. When he "tried" to add the numbers up the other guy who was saying he was wrong added all the numbers on the right side. Then, the baker added all the numbers on the left side to the total from the right. Some numbers that would work for this are: 3 and 17, 6 and 12,and 4 and 18. These were some of the numbers I found that worked.

Funniest Thing

Article posted September 13, 2011 at 06:02 PM GMT • comment • Reads 1756

One of the funniest and saddest things I've ever experienced was at my old house back in New Jersey. On a hot school day I come home and I just see this bird just lying on my front steps. It's eyes were closed and it wasn't moving.IT'S WAS DEAD. Our house had a glass door in the front and another door behind it. My mom left the door open (not the glass door). So I'm guessing that the bird wanted to come in and take a look inside our house when... WHAAMM! It went in face first, decided to take a nap, and never woke up. So we buried the bird in the backyard with our neighbors (which were two boys and they brought their dad). That was one of the funniest and saddest thing I ever experienced.

Rachel's Challenge

Article posted September 7, 2011 at 12:27 AM GMT • comment • Reads 1672

The presentation I saw last week I thought was very moving. I got a thought in my mind that maybe I should do things like that. If I do things like Rachel I thought, "Would people recognize me more? Would I be known for being nice and kind?" The presentation was definitly worthwile, needed, and effective. I saw many teachers and students crying that day and I almost cried myself and it was the first time I ever heard this story. From this experience I took away that kindness can do a lot of things and can effect many people even just by one person. Rachel said "It only takes one person to make a difference in the world." From this experience I will take part in Rachel's Challenge and try to be as nice as her.
