The End (Blog #20)

Article posted May 16, 2012 at 03:01 AM GMT • comment • Reads 852

It's the end of the year. It's been a wild ride. I had a lot of fun times with my friends and I had a lt of fun outside of school. I had a hockey tournament in Utah, I switched math classes, and Raphael and I became really good friends. I was successful in keeping good grades throughout the year. I wasn't successful when it came to doing homework. I got it in on time, but I always did it the night before.

In 8th grade, I want to go for a 4.0 GPA for at least 3 out teamof the 4 quarters. I also want to play on the AA hockey team. I look forward to having more fun times with my friends, and having fun.

The only advice I have for the upcoming 7th graders is not to procrastinate. Without a doubt, procrastination was my biggest problem all year.

International Towne (Blog #19)

Article posted May 11, 2012 at 05:00 PM GMT • comment • Reads 513

I-Towne was an interesting trip. I was surprised at how small the room was. The entire experience was fun for multiple reasons. I got to miss actual school, which is always good. I felt like the breaks were too short. By the time I was done doing the currency exchange, I was out of time. I feel like everyone will say this, but my favorite part was the sodas and slushees in Mexico. I bought 2 pepsis and 2 slushees. If I could change one thing, I would change the length of the breaks. Overall, I really enjoyed I-Towne.

World History Fair (Blog #17)

Article posted May 11, 2012 at 04:56 PM GMT • comment • Reads 457

World History impacts our world today because of a few different reasons. Things like Gladiators impact us because of the media. Little kids run around with fake swords and pretend to be Gladiators, and multiple books and movies have been made as well. My guiding question, "Roman Gladiators, Life or Entertainment?" brings forth history because of the thoughts it provokes. I enjoyed the World History Fair, it was a little short though. I felt like I did a lot of work for a short fair.

The most entertaining part about the fair was looking at all of the projects. It was evident which students put lots of time and effort into their projects, and who didn't. One project was on a table with a cloth and had a display light attached to it. I actually learned a lot about the topic because the student used relevant information. I also noticed that a lot of kids put more effort into their display board then they did their 3-D display.

Seedfolks

Article posted May 2, 2012 at 03:14 AM GMT • comment • Reads 670

I had some mixed feelings about Seedfolks. I liked the message it was sending, which was "People can come together and be friends, no matter wht the circumstance is." The book itself I thought was boring. I felt like their was no point to it. Multiple characters came along and shared their thoughts and opinions, but there was no storyline or point to any of it. Since my stance on the book is that it has no plot, I don't have a favorite character. If I had to choose ONE character, I would choose the little girl who started the whole garden. A little girl who wnted to do something important for herself, then started a chain reaction is pretty cool.

I liked all of the activities that we did in our classes. They were fun and really connected to the book. My favorite activity was Mr. Howard's Aluminum Can Flower Project. It was easy, but the end result was very interesting.

World History

My research cam along quite nicely. I got some cool ideas through thought and I decided on making my display board look like it is splattered with blood. I found a cool looking font, "algebrian", and it will fit the theme I am creating. The board was easier to create than I thought it would be, and I am happy with the final outcome!

End of the Year (Blog #14)

Article posted April 11, 2012 at 01:52 AM GMT • comment • Reads 847

I can't wait for the end of the school year. I want to enjoy Summer and sit around and do nothing. Even though I love Summer, I usually don't do much. Last Summer, my brother who left for college and I literally did NOTHING. We were so bored that we forget how to breathe, eat, and sleep. But knowing that you can do nothing and not have consequences is awesome.

Chicken Wings

Article posted April 4, 2012 at 10:50 PM GMT • comment (1) • Reads 700

In science, we dissected chicken wings in order to find out about muscles, ligaments, etc. I didn't like dissecting because of the fact that I had to do all the work, cause it's gross! It wasn't worth while for me. It was hard to cut the skin and find the correct pieces. I did NOT enjoy it.

Ernest Green

Article posted March 15, 2012 at 04:49 AM GMT • comment • Reads 625

I was really moved by the Ernest Green movie. I almost cried at a few parts because of the amount of hate going on. I think I would be able to stand up for myself a few times, but eventually, I would be dragged down. The Little Rock Nine were extremely brave and I thing we can all learn from them. If you believe in something, pursue it, no matter what the cost. I think in some ways, people still do discriminate black people. But, for the most part, I think most of the discrimination happens with things like people thinking people look weird, or people thinking that other kids aren't normal. I think everyone needs to become tolerant of each other.

Quote

Article posted March 15, 2012 at 04:44 AM GMT • comment • Reads 839

I have always liked the quote "You miss 100% of the shots you never take." I like this quote because it pertains to hockey. I think it is saying that you have to take chances, because if you don't, you won't know what you missed.

Poem

Hockey, a tough sport

People hitting

People passing

People skating

But, if you don't take shots

You will never score

You miss 100%of the shots

You never take

Cells and Microscopes

Article posted February 24, 2012 at 02:34 AM GMT • comment • Reads 621

In science, we are learning about cells and their functions. We have also used the microscopes A few times. The best part about this whole unit is the fact that we get to use our notes for the test. Just Kidding! The besst part is that Ms. Kosters does a great job explaining what each vocabulary word means. The part that is kind of annoying is the fact that there is no ryhme or reason to things in Science, you just have to memorize them!

The Stereotypical and Single-minded Ideas of the American Teenager

Article posted February 21, 2012 at 04:25 AM GMT • comment • Reads 829

In the immature mind of the American teenager
Above the neck, in the brain
Near the idea of social-status mattering
Despite words from their parents
Through the lugubrious insults of fellow classmates
Without acceptance
In their now simple lives
Toward the simplistic realm, of inner thoughts
Along the passage way, to inner and outer peace
Beyond the realm, of actual and mental realization
Of life's inner meaning

Books

Article posted February 21, 2012 at 04:20 AM GMT • comment • Reads 712

Well, as I said before, I am reading a book called Lockdown by Alexander Gordon-Smith. It's a great book because of the suspense that lies on every page. I really am enjoying this book. It is an enjoyable book because of how exciting it is. The author makes every page enjoyable and makes boring activities in the book fun because of his use of vocabulary. The whole idea of a boy living in an underground institution is a cool concept to me. That combined with the author's unique style of writing makes this one of the best pieces of literature I have ever read.

I am currently reading a book called "Lockdown." It's about a 15 year old boy who gets sent to an underground prison. He was framed and was accused of killing his best friend. Now he must find a way to get out of the prison before it sucks the life out of him. This book has been really entertaining because it keeps you at the edge of your chair the entire time.

Poetic Effects

Poets create different feelings and effects by using literary devices. When a poet uses onamotopeia, they are usually making a funny poem. When the poet uses ryhming, they could be making any kind of poem. The literary devices play a huge role in poems.

Quotes

Article posted January 24, 2012 at 11:36 PM GMT • comment • Reads 1033

I believe the quote "Believe you can and you're halfway there" means that knowing that you can do something gives you the motivation to do what you want and you're already halfway there. I can apply this to my life by showing that if I want to do something that I NEED to believe in myself. I could apply this to hockey, school, etc. This quote could make a positive change in someone's life because if they are feeling poorly about themselves then someone tells them this, they could realize that all they have to do is BELIEVE! This could impact the world the same way it could affect anyone's life. It can make them realize that believing is the key.

* Score more points in hockey. In order to do this, I will have to be ready to play every game.

* Get better grades on tests. This will require me to study more when given the opportunity.

* Have Fun. This will require having an open mind.

Doing this group assignment was an interesting experience. My group and I, for the most part, did pretty well communicating. It was hard at times to communicate with my group members because they aren't always on when you are. This project was a fun challenge. If I had to change the project at all, it would be by making it easier, somehow, to communicate with group members.

Greece

Article posted December 15, 2011 at 06:50 AM GMT • comment • Reads 911

Greece is a pretty cool country that has a lot of history. Greece is the home to the first modern type Olympics. Greece has had many changes through out its history. Greece has been a country that has been dominated by individual city-states. Dominance reigns supreme in Greece.

In Humanities, we have been having lots of fun with our simulation. Each day, we do different activities that have to do with Greece. For example, we had to memorize the Greek alphabet and then recite it. We got points depending on how well we did. Our simulation has been a lot of fun.

I am really excited for Christmas. Each Christmas, my family and I enjoy breakfast together and open gifts. We all go to my grandmother's house after eating breakfast. Once we are at my grandmother's house, we all spend time with our cousins. We play games, we use our new gifts, and we eat a MASSIVE dinner. Christmas is a wonderful time, and I really enjoy it.

Thanks and Giving

Article posted November 15, 2011 at 02:02 AM GMT • comment • Reads 1762

I am blessed with a lot of things. I have a lot of things in my life that are a blessing.

One of my great passions is hockey. Hockey, however, is not cheap thing. In fact, it's very expensive. I am blessed with the fact that I get to play hockey.

I am glad that I have a brother that I can really relate to. My brother Logan is pretty much my best friend. He and I have always been able to talk about our interests, including hockey, music, video games, etc. I am glad that I have such a great brother.

The thing I am most blessed with is life itself. Few people sit and think for a second about the gift of life. I am glad that I have a great life.

Mystery

Article posted November 11, 2011 at 04:46 PM GMT • comment • Reads 886

The best mystery I read was the Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle. I liked the way Sir Arthur Conan Doyle composed the story and the way the ending got made. It really was hard trying to find out what went on with each clue.

Mystery opener:
"I walked into the house and heard an eerie tune that made my bones chill. I turned on the lights and saw my father sitting at the kitchen table. He was motionless. He had a grin that made him look like he had just won the lottery. My presence was of no concern to him, for he just sat there. I checked his pulse. He was dead."

Always Remember

Article posted October 27, 2011 at 06:07 AM GMT • comment • Reads 980

In our world, we tend to solve conflicts between countries by fighting. It is unnecessary and unhelpful. Sadly, even though it’s unnecessary, wars happen. Instead of having peace and gratitude and solving our problems as a world together, we resort to violence. Thus, as you might expect, people, innocent, brave people, die in these wars. But they can’t be forgotten. They will never be forgotten. That is why we must always remember.

JUMP!

Article posted October 18, 2011 at 10:52 PM GMT • comment • Reads 1569

I read an article about how tons of people around the world jumped for one minute in an attempt to break the world record for most people jumping at once. It was cool that the main goal in all of this was to have people being active. I think this article shows that we can start chain reactions with our actions. Everyone should get up each day and exercise.

I recently finished a book called "Playing with Fire" by Theo Fleury. It is an autobiography about Theo Fleury, a former NHL player, and his struggles in life. It was really interesting to see into the life of an NHL player. Some of the things he said were a little messed up, but other than that, it was a great book! I wouldn’t really recommend it though cause, like I said, it was sort of messed up.

I think everyone should have the right to read what they want to read. At the same time, it depends on what people want to read. If you are reading a book that is appropriate and someone tells you not to read it, then that is wrong. But if it is an inappropriate book and you read it and someone tells you not to read it then it is reasonable for them to ask you not to read it. I think depends on what you are reading.

That is unbelievable! I HONESTLY have no idea what to say! All of the things that each person said made sense, but only one person was right. All of the math was right, but each person was setting it up incorrectly. When each person took their stab at the math equation they appeared to be right. The only difference is the fact that the people weren't sticking to the order of operations.

The Wretched Screen Door

The funniest thing that has ever happened to me is also very embarrassing. I was across the street at a neighbor’s house for a party. I was in their family room, looking out into their backyard. I wanted to go out there and play, so I ran out the door. Little did I know, the screen on the door was shut and I ran into the screen! It was a very funny moment that my family and I joke about all the time. I was young at the time, so don’t make fun of me!
