Alexa's end of year blog

I think I was successful in most of my grades during the year. I think I could have gotten better grades in language arts.Academicaly, I learned a lot. Personally, I learned not to chew gum. Ha ha! There really isn't anything I would change in eighth grade. The advice I would give the future 7th graders is to keep up with your work and don't chew gum!

I think International Town was fun and really tiring. I learned that selling a bunch of slushies and sodas are a lot more tiring than it seems! I would make more time for the breaks because I had no time to get any activities done,(time goes by really fast!)I think getting to eat cookies and drinking sodas were the best part.

Alexa's world history world fair

Article posted May 6, 2012 at 11:42 PM GMT • comment • Reads 549

World history influences our lives by carving a path for our future. My guiding question was "How did Cleopatra live the last years of her life?" I learned that she was the last female Egyptian Pharaoh. The most interesting part for me was decorating my board. I found out that Cleopatra lived a more complicated life than I had originally thought before my research.

I learned about Greek culture, Japanese culture and a great deal of info about other places around the world. I thought it was really cool how some people brought food. I learned what type of food different places had.

I think that Seedfolks "big idea" is that anyone from anywhere can come together and grow a garden with each other. I really don’t like or dislike any characters right now. I planted tomatoes in Ms.Kosters’s class, painted rocks in Ms.Lubich's class, and made coke can flowers and butterflies in Mr.Howard's class.  I liked painting rocks and making coke can flowers and butterflies the best, even though my flower ended up looking like it just came out of World War II—Ha Ha!

Alexa:World history and me

Article posted April 17, 2012 at 10:00 PM GMT • comment • Reads 649

My topic is: How did Cleopatra live the last years of her life?I found out a little more about her than I knew before.I really didn't learn much more about her because I already knew a lot about her.I am really interested in Ancient Egypt history and leaders and all that other stuff,so that is how I knew a lot about her already.I think that my final project is going really well,it wasn't as hard as I thought it was going to be. I finished my board a long time ago, and my research paper. I still have a little way to go,but I think I'm going to be fine.

In the bamboo filled forest
against the trees on the damp soil
below the big leaves
around the corner near the berry bushes
around all the happy animals
in the cold pond
below the tall trees
with bamboo in its mouth
along the graveled path
in the great big China
without making a sound
with all the other pandas.

I thought that dissecting the chicken wing was fun even though I was the only one who did it in my group, and I thought it was fun pulling on the muscles to make the chicken wing move:)I think that it was worth while and it taught me how the muscles worked and that the chicken wing has much more detail to it than I thought.

Alexa's quote

Article posted March 15, 2012 at 10:57 PM GMT • comment (1) • Reads 794

A quote I really like is "Love is the only force capable of transforming an enemy into a friend"

There was a girl
whose heart was as cold as ice
and there was a girl
who was super nice,
this super nice girl
went up to say hello
but all she got was
"buzz off"
and the girl was deterimined
to make her heart soft,
day after day
she kept showing her love
until one day
when the girl had no choice
but to give back the love.

alexa's Ernest Green story

Article posted March 15, 2012 at 10:36 PM GMT • comment • Reads 530

I thought the movie was really sad.I feel that it is very wrong to treat people by their skin color.I would have probably chickened out and started crying like a little baby.Thankfully things have changed and dark people have the same amount of rights as we do.Some people are still like the people in the movie but we can't do anything about it, it is just how they are raised and their mindset.

Alexa's lab blog

I truthfully really don't like learning about cells at all but I think it is better doing labs instead of just reading out of our books.I have learned mostly all of the parts of the cell and what they do.I think the best part of learning about cells is looking at them through the microscopes but the worst would be just reading out of our books sometimes. These labs have tought me a lot more than I knew before.

Alexa's BOOKS

Article posted February 8, 2012 at 11:13 PM GMT • comment • Reads 872

I have not read any books lately because I just don't like them. But I have to read a book for Mrs.Kosters enrichment class so I am reading "Blue is for Nightmares".It is about a girl in highschool or college that shares a dorme with Drea, a girl from her school, that she gets along with but I'm not sure if their really friends because I have not gotten far in the book.So the girl has nightmares about herself and makes potions or something to stop having bad dreams. Then she did a card reading for Drea and it said that her ex-boyfriend would ask her out then cancel last minute then it read that something really bad would happen to her but it does not say yet in the book,so anyway she has become really protective of her and that is all I have read:)

Alexa's Quotes

Article posted January 20, 2012 at 02:37 AM GMT • comment • Reads 771

I'm choosing #5- "Love is the only force capable of transforming an enemy into friend."by: Martin Luther King, Jr. First, I think that this quote means that basicly you can't fight fire with fire. The only way to turn your enemy into your friend is with love and kindness, not with hate and anger. Then, how I can apply it to my own life is if I meet anyone that I strongly dislike and they strongly dislike me then don't be mean and hateful towards them but be kind and treat them with the same respect that I have for my friends. Also, how it can be used to make a positive change in someone's attitude is it could change the way that someone feels about someone they don't like and give them more patients and tolerance. Finally, how it can make an impact on the world is it can change the meaness that people have towards each other and can make the worst enemys the best of friends.I think that this was a great quote and I can apply it to my own life:)

Alexa's Mystery

Article posted November 8, 2011 at 02:33 AM GMT • comment • Reads 1238

Since I have not read a lot of mystery books(or any books in general),I would have to say that "The Black Cat"by Edgar A.Poe is the best mystery book I have read. The reason I think this is the best story is because he makes it scary and makes it to where you think,"what's going to happen next!?"Plus he puts in a few sudden surprises in there that completly turns the story around.
A great mystery story starter I made is.....

One day a 17 year old girl named Sally asked her parents if a boy she knew could take her somewhere. Her parents said no because they do not know who he was, but she did not care and decided to go anyway. Her parents were going out on a date so they told her to stay home while they were out.The boy came and picked her up and they went around to some places. He started forcing her to kiss him while he was driving and they got in a wreck with another car. They were both injured and found out they killed both of the people in the other car.Sally told the nurse that she wanted her parents. The nurse said that they can't get a hold of them so she went and talked to the people at the hospital. The nurse came back and told her that the people that got killed in the other car was her parents.

I think that most of the blogging that we have been doing is fun and a good way to tell what we think about what is going on.I have had a good experience with most of the blogging, but just a few of them I didn't like so much.Mostly the blogging has gone smoothly for me.I think blogging as writing assignments would not be the most fun thing to do but I think it is much better than having to write on paper.:)

Alexa's ''Banned Books Week''

Article posted October 4, 2011 at 11:34 PM GMT • comment • Reads 1853

I feel like that books should not be banned but, I think people should give their opinions about books as well.Where the freedom of speech falls into this is letting people speak freely about their opinions.I think we all have the choice to choose.Even though I don't agree with some of the books, they should not be banned because other people might want to read it and that is their choice.:)

What happened in the video is that the baker made 28 donuts and he is saying that each of the 7 officers can have 13 donuts, but the other guy argues against that. Each officer should have 4 donuts. How I figured that out is I saw how many times 7 go into 28 and it goes into there 4 times, so that means that each officer gets 28 donuts.:)

Alexa's Fox Run Park

Article posted October 2, 2011 at 01:08 AM GMT • comment • Reads 1763

I think the best part about Fox Run Park is when we got together in groups and played games because I thought it was fun and a good way to get together and have fun with other people. The activities I enjoyed the most was the ''Oh Deer'' game and all the games that we played to get us to work together. What I learned was that if you are sitting on a rock that is in the water, don't tell someone to toss your notebook to you or you might drop your foot in the water. (sadly I had to learn the hard way:( .)

One funny thing that happened to me was when I was 3 is I pulled the lights on the Christmas tree and so it fell on top of me.I got tangled in the lights and it took my parents a while to figure out what happened.:)

One scary thing that happened to me is one day when I thought my dad was not in the house(he was really upstairs)I asked my mom where he was and she said he went somewhere,(of course she was lying.)Then I heard someone coming down and my mom was pretending to act really scared so that freaked my out really bad.In the end I found out that it was my dad!:)
