The End of The Year

Article posted May 18, 2012 at 10:50 PM GMT • comment • Reads 972

This seventh grade year was surprisingly really fun. I expected this year to be filled with a boat load of homework, and to be very boring. But it was actually filled with many laughs and good memories. I really enjoyed playing school sports and meeting new friends. Academically I learned to always study for a test, but personally I learned that throughout the years you will make new friends but your best friends will always stay with you. Also I learned about the importance of friends. If I could change one thing this year I would have been nicer to people because sometimes I was really mean. In 8th grade I want to get all A’s again and I want to make even more friends. For all of the 6th graders who want to survive 7th grade, they shouldn’t chew gum and they shouldn’t talk when the teachers talking. Those are the things that make teachers the most mad. This year has been really memorable and I will really miss all of the teachers and all of the students who are moving.

International Towne

Article posted May 11, 2012 at 10:31 PM GMT • comment • Reads 583

International Towne was a lot better than I expected. As president of Mexico my job was to keep track of my citizens and if necessary, I had to fill in for their job if they were to go on break. This was a really hard job. Sometimes my citizens wouldn’t listen to me or they would take extra long breaks. During this field trip I learned the importance of relationships between countries. Countries depend on each other for money and supplies. The best part was being a judge for the Tribunal meeting. I got to decide if the people were guilty or innocent. The only change I would make would be to make the break time a little longer because it was very hard to do six cultural activities and make it back on time. But besides that, International Towne was a really fun experience.

World History Fair

Article posted May 5, 2012 at 10:11 PM GMT • comment • Reads 616

My guiding question is how did the goddess Athena influence ancient Greece's culture. Athena was a very important goddess to Greeks. She influenced practices back in ancient times, and still today. She brought up the art of weaving, warcraft, and a lot of knowledge. Without this goddess life would be harder today because we wouldn't have any weapons, clothing, or much of our knowledge.
This year the projects at the world history fair were really good. From looking at other students projects, I learned a lot of information. I learned about the different Greek Gods, the pyrimids, China, and Marco Polo. The most interesting project was Andrew T's display of Zeus. He had a bright light shining down on his board, and it looked like he did a lot of research. This diplay really stood out to me. But in the end, the world history fair was a good experience for me.

I haven't really got that into the book yet, but so far I like it. I enjoy how they switch off point of views throughout each chapter. I think the basic storyline is that even though people live different lifes and have different cultures, a little thing such as a garden can bring a communtiy together. The one little girl starts a chain reaction and has the whole community join in on this garden. My favorite activity this week was making flowers in Mr. Howards class. I liked this activity because the flowers turned out really pretty and cool looking. I learned a lot about nature this week. It was really fun.

For the world history fair project my topic was "how has the goddess Athena influenced ancient Greece's culture." My research was very hard at the start, but as I looked into the topic a little more, I found a lot of facts. My final display is coming along really well. For my 3D display, I made Athena's shield which has the head of Medusa on it. I am really excited to have everyone see what I have been working on.

Summer Break- 3V3 soccer

Article posted April 14, 2012 at 04:40 AM GMT • comment • Reads 784

The school year is almost over which means summer is right around the corner! I am so excited for summer. I can't wait for the weather to be hot again, and also I can't wait for 3V3 soccer. Only in the summer I can play 3V3 soccer with all of my friends. My favorite part of 3V3 soccer is that it's played on a smaller field and that theres only 6 people on the field. This means that everyone can play every position, and anyone can score. Although I enjoy regular outdoor soccer, 3V3 is a good way to get extra touches on the soccerball in the summer, and it's a good way to stay in shape.

Chicken Wing Dissection

Article posted April 2, 2012 at 09:47 PM GMT • comment • Reads 754

In science class we were put into groups, and our assignment was to dissect a raw chicken wing. At first, we had to take off the skin then we tried to locate the ligaments and bone marrow. I thought it was really gross because the chicken was slimy and squishy. The worst part was when we cut into the blood vessel and it shot out blood, also when we cut into the bone it was dripping blood. But in the end the whole assignment wasn't that horrible.

Discrimination

Article posted March 19, 2012 at 04:09 PM GMT • comment • Reads 565

Learning about Ernest Green and his impact on the world was very interesting, and inspiring. If I was in Ernest's shoes, or any other of the Little Rock Nine's shoes, I would have given up, or would have gone back to my old school. Being beat up and having food thrown on you is very tough, and I admire Ernest, and the other kids for staying strong and fighting through the pain. Today discrimination is a lot better, but we still have it. Discrimination doesn't only happen from what color your skin is, but it can come from age, how much money you have, and how you look. We have come a long way in the world, and hopefully someday we will get rid of discrimination completely!

Inspiratoinal Quote

Article posted March 2, 2012 at 03:50 AM GMT • comment • Reads 808

A quote I really like is "the only way to have a friend is to be one," by Ralph Waldo Emerson. This means that if you want to have any friends you must be nice so that people will want to be your friend.

Friends
There once was a girl
She was just plain mean,
But, she tried being nice just to give it a whirl
She was heard, she was seen
She was noticed by all
And everyone soon did care
When she got a call
Plus twenty friends she could not bare

Microscopes

Article posted February 21, 2012 at 10:31 PM GMT • comment • Reads 852

Lately in science we have been studying cells and we have been looking at them under a microscope. Its been really fasinating to see them so big. I always thought that they would be easier to find, and easier to see. But, it's actually really hard to see because the are so small, and some of them move. I have enjoyed this microscope unit in science because we have done a lot of labs. We have gotten to do a lot of "hands on" work where we get to control the experiments. This has been a really fun and exciting unit!

Below the blue sky
On the hot, plastic turf
Down a long field, to a wide goal
Toward the white and black shiny ball
Off the crossbar
Along the out of bounds line
Through the net, into the goal
Despite the other team
On the other side of the field
During the game
Beyond the tough defense
Past the big goalie

IS Basketball

Article posted February 3, 2012 at 07:55 PM GMT • comment • Reads 775

Everyone knows that girls basketball is going on. Right now we are 6 and 1 hopefully 7 and 1 soon. IS basketball has been really fun this year, and Mr. Howard has taught me a lot of new things. I don't want it to end, but luckily there is next year. The 7th grade team has won all of our games except for one that was against Challenger. We lost by one point! It was a really good game and I think we were a better team then them. We played really good, but we did make some mistakes. But in the end our team had a really good season this year.

Poetic Effects

Article posted January 28, 2012 at 03:27 AM GMT • comment • Reads 1102

Some tools poets use to create effect in their writing are the emotional and personal experiences in their lives. Emotions are expressed in their poetry which makes it heart felt to their readers. Some poems are based off their personal experiences, therefore, readers are able to connect with the author. Some of the best written poems are from the author's tragic and happiest times in their life.

Motivational Quote

Article posted January 21, 2012 at 02:23 AM GMT • comment • Reads 716

I chose the fifth quote "love is the only force capable of transforming an enemy into a friend" Martin Luther King, Jr. To me this means love is so strong and powerful, it can turn a person you can't stand into your best friend. If I can't stand someone but then they show that they care about me I will like them more and have more respect for them. If someone is mad at a person and that person is nice and shows that they care for you and love them, they will become less mad. If people show love instead of hate people won't fight as much, and there might not be as much gossip or drama. Therefore, love is a really strong force, and more love and less hate is a good thing. This quote is really inspiring to me. I hope it inspires you too. In conclusion, more people should follow this quote.

2012 Goals

Article posted January 13, 2012 at 03:20 AM GMT • comment (1) • Reads 938

I haven't really thought about setting any goals for the new year yet. But after thinking about it for awhile, I think one of my goals would be to get all A's for the second year in a row. I've been working so hard to turn in all my work but I have been really stressed lately because its hard to get everything done when I have sports.I have to manage homework time, and make sure after basketball I leave time for my school work. Another goal is to get better at basketball, and soccer. Hopefully if I practice harder, I will make IS again next year, and stay on the same soccer team.

Wiki Reflection

Article posted December 16, 2011 at 09:23 PM GMT • comment • Reads 971

My project started out going good. Everyone knew their part for the poem video, and everyone contributed to the page. But there was a miscommunication, and at the last minute we changed the poem when most of us were already almost finished on their part of the video. I had to rush on the last day to put together a different part, and a different poem. If I ever did this project again I would make sure to communicate better, and to make things clearer. I think if you do this project next year you should give the students a little more time, and make the project clearer when you explain it because for a while I was very confused on what to do.

Greece

Article posted December 9, 2011 at 10:50 PM GMT • comment • Reads 1313

Learning about Greece so far has been pretty interesting. I don't know that much about Greece yet. What I do know is that most of what we have today like governments, art, and what we know about science, comes from Greece. Also in Greece they call their city-states a polis.

What we have been doing in humanities is that we have been gruoped into five different city-states, Corinth, Athens, Megara, Sparta, and Argos. We do different simulations, that are simular to what they did back then. At the end of each day we add up points, and at the end of all of the simulations, whom ever has the most points wins. GO ATHENS!!!!

Thanks and Giving

Article posted November 16, 2011 at 02:09 AM GMT • comment • Reads 1253

If I had to pick only three things I am thankful for they would be my house, my school that’s free, and my family. We are very lucky to own houses, or some place with a roof over our heads, because not everyone in the world sleeps peacefully at night. In the cold, chances for survival would be slim. Not everyone likes school, but just imagine life without school. Our parents wouldn’t have jobs, and instead of going to school we would have to work all day. Lastly, I am thankful for my family. Not all kids have a family to come home to, and some have to live in a foster home. My family loves me, cares for me, and provides me with food, water, and shelter. I am so thankful for all of the things I have.

Mystery Story

Article posted November 11, 2011 at 12:17 AM GMT • comment • Reads 1122

I haven't read a lot of mystery stories before, but my favorite story from the mystery unit was "The Speckled Band." Sherlock Holmes is the best detective, and I liked when he kept unlocking new clues and evidence to the story.
A good mystery story starter would be- One foggy morning, I was woken up at the crack of dawn by the high-pitched scream of the door bell. Still half asleep, I sauntered down and answered the door. To my surprise a young little boy appeared in front of me. " Help me please help me," he squealed. "My parents have gone missing!" I invited him in and I told him to tell me every thing that he knew about this. " Well my parents went out to dinner last night for their work, and I was left with a nanny,"he started.

Blogging

I think that doing blogging assignments is really fun. Blogging to me is easier, than writing with paper and a pencil. I like typing out things rather than writing them down. I also like blogging because you can look at what other students have written. At first when we started blogging, I had a lot of difficulties, and thought it was confusing. But as we started doing it more, it has become easier.

Always Remember

Article posted October 25, 2011 at 01:04 AM GMT • comment • Reads 1494

Intro Paragraph: For many decades America has sent troops to different countries for many reasons. We always take for granted what these men and women do for our country. There are many reasons we should always remember how much freedom and security this country has.

Can anyone help me make this better, or help me revise it?

Cantaloupe Contamination

Article posted October 22, 2011 at 05:06 AM GMT • comment (1) • Reads 1740

I read an article about how recently cantaloupes from Colorado have been recalled because they have been contaminated with bacteria. 84 people have been ill, and 17 people have died from this infection. Luckily these contaminated melons have only been coming from Jensen Farms, and over 300,000 have been recalled. In my opinion I would be careful about eating any cantaloupes just in case. It's better to be safe than sorry. You never know if this infection spread to other melons outside of Jensen Farms. URL: http://timeforkids.com/news/deadly-outbreak/14996

The Harry Potter Series

One of the books/series of books I have been getting into lately is the Harry Potter series by J. K. Rowling. My sisters have read all of the books and both my sisters and I have seen and loved all of the movies, so I thought I would start reading the books. Since I started I like them a lot because of all of the detail in the books that was not in the movies.

Banned Books Week

Article posted October 1, 2011 at 04:43 PM GMT • comment • Reads 1848

I think banned books week is good because we can celebrate the freedom of speech. When you want a book banned, you have to stick up for what you believe in and that’s were freedom of speech falls in. I think we all have the choice to choose what books we like and unlike in other countries the government chooses for the citizens. I don't think books should actually be banned. Just because you don't like a book doesn't mean everyone else doesn't like it too. Everyone has their own taste in books and we should respect that.

Math? Huh?

Article posted September 24, 2011 at 04:30 AM GMT • comment • Reads 1611

The baker had two numbers 7 and 28. When he was dividing them, he did 7 into 2 which didn't work then 7 into 8 which was one them subtracted them which is one then dropped down the 2 and got 21 and 7 went into 21 3 times which equaled 13. Instead he should have put 7 into 2 which wouldn't have worked then 7 into 28 which is 4. When he was multiplying the 13 and 7 he should of done this.( he needs to add the 0) 13
* 7
---
21
+70 <- +0
---
91
When he was adding them, he needed to add all 7 threes which is 21. Put the 1 as the ones place in the total and add the two to the the other 7 ones and add the 7 ones up which is seven, then he should have added 2 to get 9. As a total he should have gotten 91.

The Scariest Thing

Article posted September 15, 2011 at 02:35 AM GMT • comment (1) • Reads 1778

One spring day, my family and I were all at Subway picking up a sandwich for my sister. My sister, Meghan was running in a track meet so we had to buy her lunch. My mom and dad went inside to get sandwiches while I waited in the car. It took about ten minutes before a loud beeping sound alarmed me. Just then, I noticed it was coming from our car. I looked out the back window to see what happened, when I saw my dad on the ground because a car unknowingly backed into him. This was very shocking and scary because the driver wouldn’t stop. Luckily, my mom was there. She ran to the car and started banging on the window, and let the driver know to stop backing up. This was very scary because not only did the alarm make me jump but my dad almost got run over.

Rachel's Challenge

Article posted September 8, 2011 at 11:11 PM GMT • comment • Reads 1657

I thought the presentation on Rachel's Challenge was very well done, and touched the hearts of many students. Schools need the Rachel's Challenge presentation because it gives students a chance to stop and think about what they are about to say or do. It also, makes people want to be a better person when they see how many lives Rachel changed or made better. I will definitely try to understand people better, and treat them kindly. Rachel is why so many people have changed and have become better people.
