as far as Sport salaries go...

Article posted April 4, 2012 at 08:32 PM GMT • comment (2) • Reads 142

As far as Sport Salaries go, I feel safe saying that professional athletes are paid too much. First of all, these people are making millions of dollars just to play a game. While I do understand that they may get injured, come on? Millions of dollars? That is just insane! ANYONE can become a professional athlete, if they set their minds to the training. So why are these people getting paid so much? Next, I hear on the news about some sports people getting upset because they are getting paid 'too little'. As if a few million dollars aren't enough, these athletes have the nerve to ask for more! Most people who work today are able to maintain a healthy lifestyle on less then half of what these athletes make! I say that the Athletes are selfish, and defiant of their own normality. Last, I would like to mention that we are encouraging it! We pay a lot of money, just to go sit in a /uncomfortable/ chair and watch some people throw a ball around? By paying what you do to get the TV channels, go to the games, and even to get a athletes autograph we are encouraging their socalled 'fame' by paying so attention to them! I say that if we turned our back on sports, these people would get a little dose of reality- that they aren't any better then any of us!

Deep Thoughts: What I see in a friend

Article posted February 6, 2012 at 11:19 PM GMT • comment (1) • Reads 60

We don't often get to pick and choose our friends. It either works out or it doesn't. However when I look for a friend, I hope that they are kind, smart, and brave. First, kindess is always a good thing to find in any person, especially friends. Friends should care, and want to help you whe you are hurt or feeling down. And they certainly aren't the ones to put you down. Next, it is good to have smart friends. Not necisarily Grade smart, but smart in the sense that they know what to do and when to do it. They know when to talk, and when comfort you. But, they should also know when to give you some space, and leave you alone. Last, friends shoud be brave. I would want a friend who doesn't mind standing up for themselves and others. They should be able to take a few risks, and not worry over what might happen or what might not. I hope that, in the future after I move this summer, I am able to find some new friends who are just right for me!

Change, Change

"Hands

© Jherine N. Saine

I haven't forgotten
That I am just one person,
That I am but one voice
Attempting to stand out
From the crowd.

I remember
That I have fallen
Amidst the laughter
That surrounds me, and that sometimes
It gets too loud.

I know
That I can't sit here
And expect my silence
To evoke change
Without reason.

I can see
That I don't know everything,
That I can't expect
My hand to be held
Always.

I can feel
That time is slipping
By me, that it
Will be gone if I just
Stand still.

I have heard
That there are a million
Other voices that sound
Like mine, that want also
To be heard.

I've been told
That it's not enough to
Wish for dreams, that I
Have to work them
Into reality.

I know that I don't know
All that I think I know.
I know I won't see all of
The places I wish to go.
I know I'm not ready
For all that the world demands,
You don't have to always hold me,
Just let me see your hands.

I know
That there's a lot
That I won't understand,
That you don't have all
Of the answers.

I haven't forgotten
That I have to grow up
And someday live without
Your voice, your opinion--
Making my own decisions.

I know that I don't know
All that I think I know.
I know that I may not see all
Of the places I want to someday go.
I know I'm not ready for everything
That I won't always understand
You don't have to always hold me
But sometimes. . .
Just let me touch your
Hand."

Text to Text: This reminds me of a book I read where the main character wishes and wishes for change, but does nothing to work for it.

Text to Self: I strongly agree with this poem, that change doesnt happen unless you work for it.

Text to Worl: I think if a lot more people realized and worked towards this messege, then the world would be a better place.

Be the Change

Article posted January 17, 2012 at 05:27 PM GMT • comment • Reads 23

" Many says, I want change
Want change in my time
Want change in my life
I want a change badly
I want change, many say

They pray for a change
They wish for a change
They look for a change
But they will not change
They just wait for change

It never happens to them
It will never ever happen
By mere prayer or wish
It must start from inside
With tons of determination

Change is not so easy
It takes lots of time
So it needs determination
The will to make change
The will to see change

Then only things will change
Then only time will change
Then only life will change
So go and get change
To see the bliss of change"

This poem reminds me of the book I am reading now, Clan of the Cave Bear, in the sense that the Clan is struggling to accept vast changes in many forms. I love this poem because I agree with the idea that change only comes to those who work for it. I believe that if everyone in the world thought like this, then the world would be a better place.

Mystery Island

Article posted November 10, 2011 at 11:43 PM GMT • comment (1) • Reads 486

I think an island is the perfect setting for a mystery story, especially a murder! It helps to make the story that much more exciting, because you know you can't escape the murderer on a little strip of land. An island also adds a nicer element to the story, in the sense that you dont have to narrow down suspects as much. You know right away, people who arent on the island, arent guilty. To me, being able to narrow down suspects makes the story that much more fun, because i can focus on the story line and the characters much more.

My Favorite Story

Article posted September 29, 2011 at 09:33 PM GMT • comment • Reads 64

My favorite short story we have read, is "Charles." I found this story SO funny and ironic. I love how it hinted the whole time that the little boy is Charles, and how the parents didn't suspect anything. It made me laugh, and I read it a couple of tiems again on my own at home just for the joy of it!

Preformance

Article posted September 9, 2011 at 09:45 PM GMT • comment • Reads 57

I think I am doing well so far. I am working hard to get all work and homework done on time. I am also trying out different folders. At first, I had a folder for each class, but now I am going to bring them all into one large folder, and see if that makes me anymore orginized.
If I was interveiwing myself, I am personally not sure whether I would hire myself or not. While I do have trouble at being orginized, and geting things done on time, I am very creative and smart. I love doing hands on projects that demand my attention.
So,in conclusion, I am and have been working very hard to do good this school year, and I don't know if I would give myself a job.

School is great!

Article posted August 25, 2011 at 09:01 PM GMT • comment (2) • Reads 385

I love school! I think it is fun, and a great way to meet new people.First, I think it is fun. I like learning about new things, like history. There are also many ways to be creative so you don't get bored. Exloritories are only one way you can't get bored. PE, Band, and more. I also like meeting new people. A lot of the friends you make, you make during school. While not everyone in school is your friend, friends are another way to make school more enjoyable. Last, I find school refreshing. It is a sort of break from whatever is going on at home. If your parents are fighting, or if you older siblings tease you, you don't have to worry about it at school. So, in conclusion, I love school- and learning!
