My Speech

I think doing a speech on less homework would be interesting and hopefully, very effective. I've noticed my brother gets hardly any sleep because he has so much homework, and I'm worried that that will be me in the future years. studies have actually shown that you can get diseases just from lack of sleep. Also, over the years the homework load and the expectations have grown higher for kids in school. They think a better education is more work. Mrs. Thomassen, I know it's good to have some homework, but not so much that we won't have any lives or any freetime. we already go to school 7 hours a day, and teachers think there shouldn't be a break, but we are only 12 and 13 year old kids=http://!!!! Ok so I hope you take this into consideration, but don't think i'm meaning this in an offensive way. Goodbye

Think Before You Act

I don't think Prometheus or Orpheus thinks before they act. For example, when Orpheus is walking from out of the Underworld with Eurydice right behind him, he made the wrong decision by looking back. if he had thought about what he was doing, he probably wouldn't have looked back. Prometheus was bored of the humans and wanted to introduce fire to them, but Zeus warned him not to. If Prometheus had thought about what would happen if he put fire on Earth, he probably wouldn't have. But, he was so blinded by his desire to make things more interesting, that he went ahead and paid the price. Prometheus and Orpheus both suffered the consequences of not listening or thinking before they acted.

Budget Priorities

I think the government should have several budget priorities. I think they should have social security as their #1 priority though. If you get you social security stolen, then you have no money to afford school or anything for that matter. I think #2 should be healthcare. Health is SO important, and if you aren't healthy, then you won't be able to go to school or do much at all. Lastly, I think #3 should be education. Without education, the U.S would be run by a bunch of unsophisticated illiterates, and there wouldn't be anyone to do the really important jobs.

Athlete's Salaries

Although professional athletes are most kids' idols, I think they get paid way too much. First of all, the money should go to places like cancer research, charities, or homeless shelters. I'm sure that any of them could use an extra couple million dollars. Also, people play sports for fun or entertainment. I think humans have took entertainment way too far and spent all our money on it. Paying people for having fun doesn't seem very reasonable too me. I'm not saying that we shouldn't pay athletes, I'm just saying that we shouldn't pay them as much. To conclude, money turns professional athletes into selfish greedy people. We need to spend our money on better things.

Holes

In LA class, we read a poem, "Holes In your Sidewalk," where it talks about what mistakes you made in life. My "hole" would be fighting with my older brother, Collin. We fight a lot and I don't want to anymore. To avoid fighting, we should try doing nice things for each other. For example, if I get him a glass of water or something, he will be nice and we will get along. To conclude, I hope we won't fight as much.

The Challenge

The Challenge
by Dr. Heartsill Wilson
Blessed is the man, indeed,
Who in this life can find;
A purpose that can fill his days,
And goals to fill his mind!
The world is filled with little men
Content with where they are;
Not knowing joys success can bring,
No will to go that far!
Yet, in this world there is a need,
For men to lead the rest
To rise above the "average" life,
By giving of their best!
Would you be one, who dares to try,
When challenged by the task;
To rise to heights you've never seen,
Or is that too much to ask?
This is your day--a world to win
Great purpose to achieve;
Accept the challenge of your goals
And in yourself, believe!
You will be proud of what you've done,
When at the close of day;
You look back on your battles won,
Content, you came this way!
This reminds me of the poem, " The Victor," because they both have a similar message: Try your best. This relates to me because I am always trying to push and challenge myself. This can relate to the war in Afganistan because this poem can encourage them to think more positive.

Life Without God

Scrooge can't live without money or selfishness, but I can't live without God. First of all, humans literally wouldn't exist without God. Also, I would be living a meaningless life with no purpose. I would have selfish desires and have no moral values. Just living with God alone is all I need.

A Jail Cell, or a Duel to the Death

In my opinion, the perfect "closed setting" for a mystery story would be in a jail cell. The setting would show the criminal all sad and locked up with lots of guards around him. I think that would be very satisfying for all the readers to see after the horrible things the criminal did. On the other hand, the perfect "closed setting" could be on a field where the main character and the criminal duel to the death, where the protagonist wins.

To BE or Not to Be Fearful

Fear affects me only if I let it. If I let it overtake me, that will determine my attitude at school, at home, and everywhere I go. Instead of living my life in the shadows, I live by one rule: Fear nothing, and fear God.

I think I have done a great job in school so far. I would definitely hire myself because I'm hard working, I get straight A's, I am very responsible, and I can work under almost any situation. When I work, I do my best, but I can also be a fun person. that would be what I would look for if I were hiring someone. Therefore, I think I am on the right track.
