Professional Athletes ARE Paid Too Much! People should be paid according to how they're helping the world, not for playing on a professional sports team. There are people who are trying to cure cancer and teaching children in school-the next generation of people to govern the world, and the amount of money that they're paid doesn't even come close to the amount of money that professional athletes are paid. Professional athletes ARE paid too much-in fact, they're paid millions and millions of dollars a year! There are people who could use that money for something useful and important and put the money to good use. First of all, one example of how professional athletes ARE paid too much is in an article that we read in Language Arts entitled "Do Professional Athletes Get Paid Too Much?" by Justin Hjelm. "Kenny Anderson, then a guard for the Boston Celtics, complained of not being able to afford the insurance on his eight cars." I find it so hard to believe that people would actually complain about not getting paid enough money when they are already paid so much. And seriously, who needs eight cars? That's right, nobody! How would you even find the time to use all eight cars? It's just plain selfish. And, Kenny Anderson's contracted salary in 1999 was $5,845,000 a year! As well, another example of how professional athletes ARE paid too much is that in the article "Do Professional Athletes Get Paid Too Much?" by Justin Hjelm, it says "When asked in the early twenties what justified him making more money than the President of the United States, Babe Ruth replied "Well, I had a better year." It really doesn't make sense at all that a professional baseball player should make more money a year than the President of the United States, the person who runs our country. That's crazy! As you can see, when professional athletes are paid more than teachers and surgeons and firefighters and the President of the United States, they really ARE paid way too much.
