Carbon notes
Carbon can exist with several different 3 dimensional structures in which its atoms are arranged differently).
Carbon can also exist in an amorphous state. Many allotropes commonly described as amorphous, however, such as glassy carbon, soot, or carbon black usually have enough structure to not be truly amorphous.

Sulfur notes
Sulfur is a pale yellow, odorless and brittle material. It displays three allotropic forms: orthorhombic, monoclinic and amorphous. The orthorhombic form is the most stable form of sulfur. Monoclinic sulfur exists between the temperatures of 96°C and 119°C and reverts back to the orthorhombic form when cooled. Amorphous sulfur is formed when molten sulfur is quickly cooled. Amorphous sulfur is soft and elastic and eventually reverts back to the orthorhombic form.

Zinc notes
Although zinc compounds have been used for at least 2,500 years in the production of brass, zinc wasn't recognized as a distinct element until much later. Metallic zinc was first produced in India sometime in the 1400s by heating the mineral calamine with wool. Zinc was rediscovered by Andreas Sigismund Marggraf in 1746 by heating calamine with charcoal. Today, most zinc is produced through the electrolysis of aqueous zinc sulfate

Jr. Iditirod

Article posted March 29, 2012 at 04:06 PM GMT • comment • Reads 278

I will be teaching you about the Jr. Iditarod. I learned that the Iditarod is for adults and the Jr. Iditarod is for the younger people. The Jr. Iditarod takes place in Alaska. In 1925 the people of Nome needed help so the people from Anchorage out with the with sled-dog teams on the Iditarod trail to deliver life-saving medicine.
In this blog it describes the experiences of Dusty Whittemore as he completes the Jr. Iditarod. He sees familiar faces from last year – Andy Willis and Noah Burmeister. They have to pick a number from a hat and Dusty picked number 6. Dusty has to pack food for the dogs and there are about 10 dogs and each has to have a 2 pound food. Dusty has to carry 20 pounds of food in his sled.
The checkpoint is for the racers and dogs. That is when Dusty looks at the dog’s feet for crack. If the dogs have cracks in there feet he will put on the booties.
The trail is only a few feet in the woods, and coming around a blind corner the dogs run smack into two snowmobiles in the path. The snowmobiles made a knot less than 5 minutes into the race. A tangle is musher’s second worst-nightmare. A moose is a musher’s 1st worst-nightmare because to a moose a dog looks like wolves and the moose might attack before the musher a can scare it off.
Thank you for reading about the Jr. Iditarod and I hoped you learned a lot.

Vans

Article posted March 6, 2012 at 05:29 PM GMT • comment • Reads 270

Dear Wyatt,
You know what shoes everybody has on today. The shoes are the black vans. These vans are comfortable shoes. The shoes are stylish, durable, versatile, and they have cushions impact, plus I have a birthday coming up so it would be nice of you to buy me the black vans.
Some of the comments are “Vans are my favorite shoes ever... I bought this pair because my black pair was getting way too worn out. I have a low arch so these shoes have enough support for me”. The second comment is “I am wearing these to long board, mainly because I wore out my Chukka Low Vans. I had to wear them around for a while to break them in, but they're a great fit and I love them”.
The vans have very good firm and tight when tided. They are good at running. I hope I get these shoes because this year I am going be on the Brichta track team. The front of the shoe lets you run faster because it cuts through the wind faster.
They are comfortable and stylish shoes. They are only $45.00 (the original black classic authentic).
Thank you for reading. Were you persuaded?
Yes
No
Your friend,
Kyle B

Jill

There once was a young girl named Jill
Who was scared of the sight of a Drill
She brushed everyday
So her dentist would say
“Your teeth are so perfect; no bill.”

Ben Franklin's BIG ideas

Article posted December 9, 2011 at 08:51 PM GMT • comment • Reads 210

Do you know some of Ben Franklin’s big ideas? I’m just going to tell some of his brilliant ideas.
He proved that electricity and lighting are the same. He went to a picnic. He planned to kill a turkey by an electrical shock, roast it in a container connected to electrical circuits, on a fire lit by an electrical bottle.
He was made post master general and organized a new system so that it took 3 weeks instead of 6 weeks for a letter to go from Boston to Philadelphia (later he cut the time to 6 days.)
He helped organize a fire insurance company, a hospital, and an expedition to seek the Northwest Passage.
He invented a metal rod that when lighting is coming the rod would ring the bell that came with so the farmers knew when to hide there farm animals.
Thank you for reading my blog. Have a nice day

Across the Wide Dark Sea

Article posted November 14, 2011 at 08:42 PM GMT • comment • Reads 296

Dear Jr,
How are you doing? I miss you and the family. Me and Soleil are doing all right. Remember 200 pilgrims including me and Soleil set out to find the new land where we can worship god in our own way.
A lot of people got sick. Storms with big waves and wet, damp, and foggy weather. A lot of people were sweepted overboard. We had to eat dry biscuits and hard cheese.
I thought I had lost her forever. I was crying to my knees. When I saw the wave it was at least 60-70 feet high in the air.
Just when I thought Soleil was gone, a whale blowed Soleil out of the whales blowhole. Then she said “I want to try that again”.
Even though this is a hard and scary journey, I know I’m going to be okay if I’m healthy and strong.

Your brother,
Kyle B.

Ben Johnson’s quote
‘’ Was not of a age, but for all time’’
Hi my name is Kyle B. and I am going to tell you what I think Ben Johnson meant when he said the quote to William Shakespeare. I think Ben meant he was too young to die. We all remember him of his plays.

Everglades

Article posted October 10, 2011 at 09:43 PM GMT • comment • Reads 380

Hello my name is Kyle. I am going to tell you how the Everglades was created. First, it was the age of seashells. The seashells formed a rock called limestone on the sea bottom. The lake was called Lake Okeechobee. It was round, deep, and it was as clear as window glass. The lake did not splash or chortle. It was a slow lake that gleamed like quicksilver. One-celled animals and plants started to live in the lake. They lived and died and made green soil on the bottom of lake. It made saw grass. The saw grass felt like a trillion swords. Only a alligator could walk though the saw grass without getting poked.

American Music

Article posted September 22, 2011 at 05:12 PM GMT • comment (1) • Reads 390

American music is everything because if you even tap your foot on the ground it makes a beat. It’s like birds chirping and a heart beat. Instruments are music because you can play on a bass guitar. See every little thing is music.
