If I Could Change the World

Article posted May 10, 2013 at 03:27 PM GMT0 • comment (1) • Reads 50

Changing the world is a highly discussed topic. It includes hard work, determination, sometimes money, and good heart and mind to do it. The world is not perfect and there are many places that need to be helped or changed. For example some of the places on the list are Third World Countries. If any of you don't know what Third World Countries are they are places that do not have the luxuries of America. Some countries that are third world are Haiti, Somalia, Tanzania, Afghanistan, Liberia, and more. These countries average income a year is what americans can make in a month. Most of the houses in these countries have houses with no running water or indoor plumbing. Their houses are one roomed and mnay people live in them at one time. In America houses are at least 2 floors and 5 rooms equipped with a kitchen and bathroom. We are living a luxury life compared to the people out there. If we were to give a dollar or even two to help the people we probably could provide that one family with food. We could send their children to school and help them learn and have a better life than their parents. Statistics show if we were more conscious with our food and shared it no one would be hungry again. We just have to share and mabye the world would be out of poverty. We also have to learn to not take things for granted. Be conscious about that half eaten burger you just through away becasue somehwere that could be someones dinner for a week. My plan to change the world is to help poeple become conscious of what they throw away and save and share to help other people.

South African School

I think what Oprah did for those girls was amazing. Just looking at their lives makes us realize that we take so much for granted. Some girls had to bring back 5 gallons of water on their head. Most of the girls did not have indoor plumbing either. It shows how different their lives are from ours because when we get thirsty we go to our refrigerator and grab a bottle of Smart Water or when we have to wash our hands or use the bathroom we go to a comfortable room in our huge house and use it. Most of us live in country clubs or suburbs and we don't know what it feels like to have nothing. I think we should really be grateful and thank God everyday for the thinsg we do have.

How Articles Relate to Us

My article talked about the supects about the Boston bombing. This relates to the real world because of the Boston Marathon Bombing. The Boston Marathon Bombing was a terrible event that left many poeple injured and some were even killed. Many amputaions were made because of the atack. Our police are finally getting down and have narrowed down three suspects. Hopefully the killer will be brought to justice. This relates to the Renaissance because there were terror attacks back then. Also amputations and they also wanted to bring criminals to justice.

Difference Between Religion and Spiritual

Article posted April 25, 2013 at 03:44 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 28

I think that the difference between religion and spirituality is that religion is what you believe in. Like our relgion is Christianity. As Christians we believe that God so loved the world that he gave his only son to die on the cross for our sins. Spirituality is how you feel about somethings or how you feel about what you believe in. I do no think there is that much of a difference between the two. I think they go hand in hand with each other.

A World Without Pictures

Article posted March 25, 2013 at 07:59 PM GMT0 • comment (2) • Reads 54

A world without picture would be very different from how it is now. For example in modern times it seems like everytime we go to a restaurant we take out our smart phone and take a picture of food and post it on instagram. Back then when pictures were invented they were only paintings and only rich people could afford them. They were still a great phenomenon because now people could remember things like how people looked or a piece of scenery. It was a great honor and very expensive to get a picture done of yourself. Now all we have to do is flip out a phone or camera and take a picture for free. I think that  a world without pictures would be like the Renaissance or before the Renaissance.

What I Learned About The Middle Ages

Article posted January 29, 2013 at 07:12 PM GMT0 • comment (8) • Reads 279

During our study of the Middle Ages i've learned many things about that time period. I've learned that some of the stuff that they used back then we use it now. For example mint and ginger they used mint for bad breath and they used ginger for upset stomachs. Does that ring a bell? We chew MINT gum to freshen our breath and we use GINGER ale when we have a stomach ache. We also use wheelbarrows in our gardens the Middle Ages had a very big influnce on our world. Some people call them the dark ages but I think that it is when the light was shone on so many possibilities for expantion and evolution. The Middle Ages were a very important time in history and I think we can all learn something from them

What is culture

Article posted January 10, 2013 at 04:01 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 54

I think culture is something that has been passed on from generation to generation. It started with something small and it grew and grew into something really big. Its like a flower it once it is planted it needs to develop into something bigger and eventually it will be beautiful. For example some Spanish cultures celebrate Cinco De Mayo probabaly because one person or a group of people thought it would be respectful for them to honor the dead. That eventually caught on and now some cities in Mexico celebrate it every year. That is how powerful culture can be it can start from a little group of people and turn into big cities celebrating it everywhere. That is what culture is to me. :)

Medieval Weapons and War Tactics

The weapon you were given depended on what social class you were. If you were lower class your weapons ranged from pole arms, battle axes, longbows and more. The Knights however used medieval swords, shields, and they were trained to use lances. Every knight had training with the lance, sword, and dagger before they even stepped on the battlefield. One of the war tactics of their time was surrounding the city and cutting off all food supply until they surrendered. They also ran with long spears to counter a cavalry charge.

Success and Failure

Article posted February 2, 2012 at 02:04 AM GMT0 • comment • Reads 220

What goes through a person's mind at a moment when success or failure depends upon them?

That person would feel pressure on their shoulders from people depending on them.  I think they would feel like the weight of the world was on top of them.  They would probably feel very tense and as if everyone was watching them.  When people are faced with that challenge, I think that they should have fun and do their best because no one can be mad at you for doing your best.

Judge Them Only On Their Athletic Performance???

I think that they should be good role models and be good at sports. If you are not a good role model then your reputation in sports gets ruined. If your reputation gets ruined then your fans will not go to your games and your sports career will be ruined. Unless you prove to the world and your fans that you have changed your ways.

Prejudice

Article posted January 13, 2012 at 03:10 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 260

Where Can prejudice be found ??

Prejudice can be found in many places because some people think that because your skin might be  a different color they are free to judge you based on your peoples past crimes. Stealing for example some people think that if a certain person walks into the store they are going to steal something. Another form of prejudice is slaves for example they thought that just because of are skin we were dirty and dumb animals. Another form of Prejudice is when the Chinese workers who moved here had to work on the rail road they were made fun of for their eyes and they were put in dangerous situations. I think that prejudice is very wrong and that it should be stopped. All people were created equal and there is no reason to judge them. Some people are just talk they try to speak out a against prejudice they try to make other people feel bad about being prejudice when they are no different. So people need to stop talking and start doing and they need to realize that they do not need to judge people to fit into the crowd they should do what is right and not just on MLK day but all the time.

MY Goals

My goals are for me to improve myself academically. I will try and do my best at everything I do. I will work harder for my good grades. I will improve myself spiritually by growing closer to God. I will do that by reading the bible more and going to church as often as I can. I will go to God when I am in trouble and ask Him to help me with my problems. I will also improve myself socially. I will hang out with different people and mix up my friends. I will try and talk to everyone and not put people down even by accident. I will try to be uplifting and Kind and make God happy.

Hunger Games

I read Hunger Games by Susan Collins and absolutely loved it.  I am reading the second book in the series now. The Hunger Games is about a girl named Katniss, who lives in the country of Panem, which is made up of 12 districts around it with a capitol in the middle.  Panem hosts an annual event called the Hunger Games, which is a fight to the death with 24 competitors.  Because there are 12 districts, 2 competitors are chosen from each district.  Katniss and her little sister Prim live in District 12 with their mom and they go to the annual reaping where Prim’s name gets called.  Katniss volunteers for her little sister, Prim, with the boy tribute, Peeta Mellark.  They train and prep for the Hunger Games, but who will come out on top?  If you want to know read the book, I would highly recommend it.

Wonderstruck

I read Wonderstruck by Brian Selznick and once I was done reading I was literally wonderstruck.  It only took me one day to read, because I could not put it down.  The first night I began to read it, I didn’t finish reading until 3 A.M.  The main characters in the book were Ben and Rose.  The beauty is that Ben’s story is told in words, while Rose’s story is told in pictures.  Their stories are set 50 years apart and it is amazing how they come together before the book ends.  Some of the adventures in the book take place in New York at different museums.  This is one of the best books that I have ever read.  I highly recommend this book to fans of Brian Selznick, artists and readers of all ages.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid Cabin Fever

I read Diary of a Wimpy Kid Cabin Fever by Jeff Kinney over the Christmas break.  Since I am a fan of the book series, I was eager to read it.  The story centered around Greg and the problems that he encountered during a blizzard.  Overall, I thought this book was good, but it was not as great as the previous books in the series.  Although, I read this book in a day or two, it did not really grab my interest as the other books I read.  I would recommend this book to people that have enjoyed this series, but would caution them not to expect too much.

The Invention of Hugo Cabret

The Invention of Hugo Cabret by Brian Selznick was about an orphan and his journey to discover the secrets of a mechanical man.  I loved this book because a portion of it is described in pictures and the other portion is described in words.  While reading, you have to use the illustrations as a visual aid to determine what is happening in the story.  I thought that was really cool and the drawings were magnificent.  As a bonus, I was able to see the movie in the theatre over the Holiday break and compare the two.  I would recommend this book and movie to artists and to people who like adventurous stories.

Language Arts Culminating Story-

Prologue-We run through the forest trying to elude the monster with countless fire

breathing heads pursuing us, our adrenaline going higher and higher when we hear

it scream in frustration. We get to camp and yell for backup and brace ourselves for t

he worst. This will be by far the worst thing we have ever encountered.

Chapter 1-Althea

Alright, let’s go back a bit. I am one of the lead huntresses in the group know as the

Hunters of Artemis. You might be thinking, what in the world are you talking about,

Artemis and her hunters are a bunch of myths. But we aren’t. We are absolutely

flesh and blood, you can’t get much more reality out of us. We go around protecting

the humans that are bout as smart as bricks-hey have no idea how much is going on

outside their world- they think they are so smart but they have no idea how little

they know. The criminals they fight are nothing near the monsters that we take on

every day. One of those monsters is known as the hydra-this beast constantly causes

mankind and us tons of trouble and sometimes threatens the entire human race. Of

course this thing has to take our leader captive-makes everything so much easier.

Chapter 2-Clarrissa

Artemis goes off hunting and ends up captured by that green fire-breathing freak.

Leave it to her. Althea gets all emotional and I am sitting there with an eyebrow

raised at the stupidity of this whole thing. Being who we are, we of course have to go

on an overdramatic and somewhat superficial mission. We pack up some disgusting

backup powdered food in a bag in case there is no game around and head off near

the hydra’s lair. I thought we would just trudge over there, kick some hydra

butt(since SOME LEADER couldn’t!) and fetch Artemis-but these are the hunters of

Artemis of course this doesn’t happen. The first thing we see when we get to the

woods on the way to the lair is a huge manticore. This trip is going to be incredibly

harder than I thought.

Chapter 3-Alexandra

We go into the woods and a huge manticore emerges from the foliage. Of course

Althea stars screaming her head off and Clarrissa rolls her eyes and groans like she

is bored to death. We all pull out our bows and try to figure out way to take it down.

We can’t get much closer to it in fear of getting stung by its deadly and poisonous

scorpion tail. The lion claws don’t make things much better. I search my

surroundings for a logical strategy. There aren’t many options and most of them are

impossible. It seems as if Artemis and her hunters may be in much more trouble

than what was expected.

Chapter 4-Celina

The manticore is almost impossible to elude-our lives are in serious jeopardy.

Althea is shaking in her boots and Clarissa is says a few not so nice words at the

incredible and monstrous beast in front of us for making this trip so much harder.

Bold as she can be, she marches up behind it and shoots it in the back and it

dissolves into dust. I don’t think Althea will ever be the same.

Chapter 5-Daphne

We march on with a few minor disturbances but they all are taken care of thanks to

Alexandra and Celina. Althea kills a horde of chimeras, but it nearly scars her for life.

We finally reach our destination. We see a motion in the bushes. Our real opponent

has arrived.

Chapter 6-Calista

It is pretty degrading thinking you are tall and good and then you meet a hydra.

Those things are so big that the biggest man would be the size of its pinky toe. These

are what I call drastic measures. The situation gets more and more hectic-Althea

gets a sort of look that she is going to faint, Alexandra starts to declare some

pretty defiant things at the monster and its lofty demeanor, and Daphne tries to

vacate the woods out of fear. Big and ugly sees her and clasps her in his claw.

Chapter 7-Ebony

With Daphne detained by that monster, she can’t really help the situation, but it

would be cool if she could. This monster has done too much, forcing Artemis into his

hostile custody. She cuts a scared Daphne from its grasp with a surprisingly deft

motion, and Gia cuts one of the hydra heads off-never thought that would cause

more problems or more heads in this case. Alexandra cuts another head off and

Clarissa sends a flaming arrow straight for the stump. Apparently, this works.

Different, but I can go with it. We run through the forest trying to elude the monster

with countless fire breathing heads pursuing us, our adrenaline going higher and

higher when we hear it scream in frustration. We get to camp and yell for backup

and brace ourselves for the worst. This will be by far the worst thing we have ever

encountered.  Althea took a tentative step towards Artemis and cuts her free.

She does not look so great after the persecution she has gone through. We use the

cut off head shoot flaming arrow method and finally take down the hydra. Looks like

things are back to normal-for now.

The Girl Who Spelled Freedom mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman"">” was a movie that had many interesting characters.  Prissy Thrash, for example, was a rounded character that changed her heart and attitude during the movie.  Initially, Prissy was hesitant about the Cambodians coming to live with her, especially when she found out that the mother had six children.  She was worried that the house would not have enough of the necessities that the Cambodian family needed.  Prissy was also frustrated when they couldn mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman"">’t speak her language and they didnt know how to use the toilets.  Eventually, Prissy got over her issues and she became a role model for Lin and her family.  She acted as Lins second mother and she taught her all about America and the good opportunities it offered.  Prissy also helped Lin study for the spelling bee and I really think that Lin looked up to her.

              Chapter 1

“I can’t do this,” I said in a low whisper. I could hear the audience calling my name my heart was racing and I could barely breathe. I could tell my friends felt the same way. Arianna was freaking out and she could not speak and Devyn was hyperventilating. We prayed that God would ease our anxiety so scared out of our minds we walked onto the stage the bright lights shining. This is where it all started in middle school.

Arianna, Devyn, and I practically ran the whole the 8th grade. We were walking down the halls earphones in ears when suddenly Arianna started screaming. Devyn and I turned to see what was wrong “What’s wrong Arianna?” Devyn asked. Devyn had bright brown eyes and long wavy black hair. “My song just came on.” Arianna said. “What song?” Devyn and me said simultaneously. “Upgrade You by Beyonce” she replied. “You would be listening to Beyonce you look just like her.” I said. It was true Arianna had big brown eyes and long light brown hair she was really pretty. But me I had red Beyonce hair like she had in the irreplaceable video I also had pretty brown eyes and long eyelashes to compliment them. Ring-a-ling-a-ling went the bell that means first period was starting “Uggggh science” we all groaned and we walked down the hall to class.

“Heat up the popcorn Jazmyne, the show is about to start!” shouted Arianna from upstairs. “I’m comin’ ok give me a second!” I shouted back. Beep!Beep!Beep! went the microwave. I quickly took the popcorn and put it in the bowl and ran up the stairs. “What took you so long,” said Arianna greedily reaching her hand in the popcorn bowl. “I was waiting for the microwave beep that’s what,” “You missed the first three minutes of the show,” “I don’t care turn on Victorious,”. “Go heartbeat” said my favorite character Andre from victorious we laughed and laughed and laughed.

                                                                                  * * *

“Whoooooooooooo =http://!”   We heard the screams of children on roller coasters at the amusement park. “I’m so excited!” Arianna shouted. “Me to,” I replied. We were finally going to ride the Dare Devil Dive Coaster. The line was long and the people were a bit nervous. Except for Arianna and I we loved roller coasters. The line was going as slow as a snail on a sidewalk. Until about a half an hour later we got there. We strapped ourselves in and the and we started moving. Around the curve of the tracks and up the slope we were going straight up Arianna was hanging on for dear life. We heard the creak of the roller coaster as it was about to go down and then all of a sudden we dropped. “Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh .” We screamed our heads off.

How would I design a libray in the future

Article posted September 30, 2011 at 03:04 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 937

How would you design a library in the future?

I would design my library to have tons of books old and new. From Shakespeare to John Steinbeck and it would have all different genres from history to fairy tale. There would be a kids section and beanbag chairs for the kids to sit and read. There would also be a comfy quiet room for those tough projects and exams. I would have books on all subjects so you could learn something new every day. I would have snack machines by the front so if you get hungry you could have a quick little snack. I would have very cozy furniture and warm blankets for you snuggle up and read. My library will have fast computers for researching and a good reference section. You would have a good quiet time at my library and you would always come back for more. My library would be learning destination whether you want to find out who your ancestors were or just a quiet place to read.

If my name could be anything………………………..

If my name could be anything it would be Ciara because it sounds really pretty and it’s not that uncommon as Kendall is. I would also love my name to be LaTrenda I love that name its really cute and it’s sophisticated as well. I love other names like Jazzmen and Trinity. Those are my all time favorite names. I also like names that can be for a boy or a girl like Jayden and Kennedy and I love the name Maya. Those would be the names I would love to have.

                 Prejudice is………………..

Prejudice is the mistreatment of others maybe because of stereotypes. One example of prejudice is the Blacks being mistreated by the Whites. It was very bad Blacks were considered dirty and not smart. They were talked to as though they were simple animals. Especially slaves the were either paid very little or nothing at all. They were not even considered a human beings more like an animal captured in a cage. Some people back in the olden days thought that if a black person had something nice they would think that they had stolen it. Those were very tough times but there is not just prejudice in that time there is prejudice everywhere. It comes in all shapes and sizes and we need to fight against prejudice because all people are created equal, no matter what shape, size, and color you are. We are all extraordinary human beings and we need to be treated that way. As the great Martin Luther King Jr. said “I have a dream that one day my little children will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.” Some people were in an organization because they were very prejudice people the name of that group was the KKK (Ku Klux Klan). Sometimes they would ride on the plantation and threaten to burn the slaves houses down unless they came out to be whipped. Those were sad times but if we team together and work very hard we can beat prejudice right out of our future generations vocabulary. We need to work on fighting prejudice forever.

The Best Thing About 6th Grade

Article posted August 26, 2011 at 03:11 PM GMT0 • comment (1) • Reads 1200

The best about 6th grade is everything. You have more freedom in 6th grade. You have a locker and you can decorate any way you want too. Switching classes can be tough though but you get the hang of it after a while. My favorite thing to do is in the mornings when a couple people are there, you can chat with your friends who come early in the quad or by your lockers. I love 6th grade but you have a lot of tests and you have to study really well to get a good grade. 6th grade is awesome because now your old enough to go on some of the mission trips. They have a lot of trips that you can go on. We also get to go to Chattanooga, Tennessee. 6th grade is a lot easier than I thought it would be, but it is still the beginning of the year so I don’t really know what it is really like. I also like having freedom but with freedom comes responsibility, so if you don’t use it the way it is supposed to be used you will lose people’s trust and it will be taken away from you. The best part about 6th grade is the new friends you make and lunch if you bring money you can go to the snack shack. You can get brownies, ice cream, mentos, cookies, and much much more. Also one more thing do not go to the Spartan store between classes you have five minutes in between each class but it is best if you just go ahead and get to your class there is nothing wrong with being early to class.
