Plan to Change the World

What would I change in the world? I would change the fact that some people don't have adequate shelter. In Africa, a lot of families only have one room to live in. Even big families with, for example, 5 people, only have one room to live in. Also, a lot of people don't have indoor plumbing. This means they have to go far away to get water and then they have to carry the full, heavy water bucket back to their house. I believe that if I created the Africa Home Association it would change lives. How would it change lives? I would raise money and then use the money to give new homes to families in need. This would change lives because they would get a new home that had indoor plumbing. This would also change lives because I would make many rooms in the house so that it wouldn't be as crowded. I feel that this could change many lives for the better. Learning about different cultures and historical time periods is very important in changing the world. Why? Well... You need to know about the people's culture before you help. If you want to help them, then you definitely don't want to offend them. I believe that you also need to know the history of the people. This is important in several ways. First of all, you need to have something to talk about with them. If you talk about their history with them, they will feel closer to you. It would also give you more knowledge about where the people had come from. This is my plan for changing the world.

My Charity: Water

There is a really great project going on. It's called My Charity: water. This is a project that gives clean water to people who are in need and don't have access to clean water. They do this by digging wells. It is funded by people who feel stongly about the cause of giving clean water to people who are less fortunate. It affects our society today because people getting clean water is very important. Many people in rural and impoverished countries do not have access to clean water. Much water that people in rural Africa drink is filled with diseases such as E. coli, salomonella typhi, schistosoma. cholera vibrios, and hepatitis A. These diseases especially affect children because their bodies aren't strong enough to fight those kinds of disease. For example, 90% of the 30,000 deaths that occur each week from dirty water are in children that are less than 5 years old. As you can see, this is a very big and global problem that needs to be fixed. That's what this ministry is trying to do. This connects to the Renaissance because back in the Renaissance times, most water wasn't very clean. Back then, most of the people just threw their trash and waste out onto the street. This was a big problem because when it rained, this waste would wash away into various bodies of waters around the certain town. This in turn means that town's water source would get polluted. Once again, as you can see, this was a big problem then, but it is also a big problem now.

A World Without Pictures

I think a world without pictures would be extremely boring. A world without pictures would be drastically different than the world we live in today. Today, almost everything comes with pictures. Website articles almost always have pictures along with them. If there were no pictures to accompany words and feeling the world would be a pretty dull and unexciting place. If you think about it... Pictures bring us joy in life. They give us feeling and connection. Say we read an article about sports... Along with that article, there is a picture. When you look at that picture, you somehow feel connected to the thing that is being talked about in the sports article. Whereas, if there wasn't a picture to go along with that sports article you wouldn't be able to connect with the article very well. A world without pictures, I feel, would be tragically uncreative. People wouldn't be able to express what they see and feel. In short, they wouldn't be able to express themselves. Overall, a world without pictures would lose a lot of what the world is meant to be.

The Middle Ages is very interesting time in the history of the world. It was time were there was a lot of struggle for power and land. It was also a time of disease and hardship but also learning. I learned that religion basically influenced everything that people did in the Middle Ages. Religious leaders were possibly as powerful as kings. The Black Plague ravaged Europe and killed a 1/3 of the population of Europe. It was devastating. The Crusades or "Holy Wars" were also very important. They orginally started out as wars for the church but then turned into wars for wealth. All of these things shaped the Renassaince and the modern world. Overall, the Medieval Times was a very interesting time for the world and Europe.

What is Culture?

What is Culture?
Culture, it is one of the most packed words in human history. Culture is the customs, arts, music, sports, language, clothes, religion, etc. of a civilization. Culture is constantly changing. An empire could fall and the culture of that same area could be totally different from what the culture of the empire was. Culture changes as new ideas come to the surface of humanity. Culture can also change as new authorities come to power over territories. Those new authorities could have different ideas about how they want their territory. Over time, their new ideas that may have been weird at first, become engrained and entwined in the history and culture of a country. To me, certain aspects of culture all starts with someone who has a new idea. Culture is so vital to the foundation of countries, empires, etc. but sometimes people lose sight of how important it is and so, consequently, they lose chunks of their culture that, often, can never be found again.

The Lost Hero Summary
I read The Lost Hero by Rick Riordan and the theme is overcoming obstacles. The three main characters are Jason, Piper, and Leo. Jason wakes up on a bus and doesn’t remember anything. He apparently has two friends named Piper and Leo. They say they go to the Wilderness School, which as Leo puts it is for “bad kids.” Jason doesn’t know how he ended up there. Piper’s dad went missing when she went to the Wilderness School and Piper has had a terrifying nightmare since it happened. She doesn’t understand what the person in the nightmare is saying and she also doesn’t understand why her boyfriend, Jason, suddenly doesn’t remember her. Then suddenly a weird storm hits during a school field trip and she, Jason, and Leo are taken to Camp Half-Blood. They are told they have to go on a quest to save the world. Sounds easy, right? See what happens when you read The Lost Hero by Rick Riordan.

King Edward Longshanks
King Edward Longshanks was one of England’s greatest kings. His real name was Edward the 1st but he was nicknamed Longshanks because he was so tall. Right after King Edward came to the throne he conquered Wales and made his son the Prince of Wales. As the king he made some new laws. The new laws that he made had a long lasting influence on later kings of England. In 1307 King Edward Longshanks tried to lead an army towards Scotland but he died before he reached the border. King Edward I will forever be known as perhaps the greatest king in the history of England.

Casey at the Bat
One time when I was in 5th Grade I was playing a basketball game and my team was losing. It was in the 4th quarter with 1 minute left and we were down by 4 points. We called timeout to work out a play. The play was to go to Coleman, another guy on my team. So we inbounded it and worked it around the perimeter and found Coleman just inside the 3-point line and he made it! We pulled the game within 2 points and our coach called timeout again. Now with 30 seconds left the other team brought the ball down the court and my team played great defense and stopped them. So our coach took our final timeout. The play was to get the ball to me. So we inbounded it and I was on the wing. Coleman brought it down court and passed to me with 5 seconds left. This shot was to tie the game. So I shot it. But I missed. Before the shot I felt a lot of pressure because the game was on my shoulders. I felt really bad that I didn't make it.

The Noble Experiment
I think people should expect professional athletes to be role models. I think professional athletes should be role models because a lot of kids are looking up to them to do the right thing. I think if you are a popular person you can influence a lot of people and if kids are looking up to you you should influence them in the right way by showing good character and things like that. I think that Jackie Robinson displayed those qualities. Athletes today should display the same qualities as he did.

Settings Where Prejudice Is Found
Prejudice can be found in lots of places. Prejudice can occur a lot at schools. Kids can be unfair to other kids by saying that they’re not “cool” or “popular”. For some kids this can really hurt them forever. Prejudice can also occur at restaurants or stores. God made us all equal so everyone should be treated the same. I think prejudice should be stopped and people should start treating people the way they want to be treated.

Goal Setting
My academic goal is to read at least 8 books by the end of the school year. I will do this by reading at least 15 minutes each night. I should achieve this goal by the end of the semester. Another goal that I have is to be baptized. I will do this by studying the Bible with my dad and talking to other people about God so I can understand Him more. My last goal is to not fight as much with my sister. I will do this by being much nicer to my sister. This goal should be met by the end of the year.

Forgotten
On a hot, humid day a boy named Justin is sitting in his living room waiting for his mom to take him to his Grandmother’s house. He was tempted to emerge from the dark, gray house. Justin lives in Montana in a city named Folkland. His grandmother lives 2 blocks away. Once he gets there his grandmother says, “You can go play outside with a friend but not in the woods or else dangerous things will happen.” So Justin goes outside to play with his friend who lives in the same neighborhood. They are playing football when Justin’s friend, Jason, dares him to go into the woods. He is a little cautious at first but being a curious child Justin agrees.
Justin walks about 50 feet when he turns around and calls to his friend, “It’s safe to come in.” But as he says that the sky goes completely black during a full solar eclipse. The incredible sight captivated Justin. During the eclipse Jason stampedes into the woods in a hectic way after Justin. Jason is paralyzed when he finds out that he has just put his best friend and himself in a vital and perilous situation. Jason dark brown hair was beginning to sweat. The sun was finally unveiled and the sky was clear but gray. He realizes he’s not in Folkland. Jason looks at the expanse of trees in front of him. In a desperate need to get out of the woods Jason runs as fast as he can to an abandoned house.
Justin is scared out of his mind. Sweat is running down his forehead and his palms are beginning to sweat. As he’s assessing his situation his grandmother’s voice rings in his head. Justin is lucky to be the son of a veteran so he is hardy and has many survival skills. In the distance Justin sees and abandoned house. As nervous as a thirteen year old could be he runs full speed to the house. He stops at the doorstep of the house and slowly reaches for the doorbell.
Inside the house Jason is sitting on the kitchen floor crying hoping for someone to find him. Justin rings the doorbell and Jason runs to the back of the house to a dirty and smelly bedroom, he scurries under the bed to elude the person at the front door. Justin walks into the house he feels that he is not alone so he walks to the back of the house to the bathroom and hides in the bathtub.
As both were building up courage they emerged from their hiding spaces and walked into the mysterious hallway. They were walking backwards and made sudden movement to turn around and bumped into each other. They both squealed, “ Please don’t hurt me!” Justin stares at Jason with a ravenous look in his eyes hoping for a brawl. “This is all your fault!” Justin screamed. Then Justin throws a punch at Jason and he throws one back. Then Justin realizes they’re both in jeopardy and need each other to survive.
Justin says, “We need each other to survive.” “How are we going to survive in this unknown territory?” Jason said. They both go to the front door and look out into the woods. Jason spots a stream in the distance and exclaims to Justin, “Look there’s a stream in the distance!” They start walking towards the stream and they perpetually walked for an hour or two. They both start to realize that they are exhausted and need food. When they finally reach the stream Jason puts his head in the water and takes huge gulps of water. Justin realizes what Jason is doing and decides to do the same. They both open their eyes and in a split second they see a cloudy light at the bottom of the river. They both take their heads out of the water and ask each other if they saw the light.
“Yeah” Justin says. “How are we going to get down there?” “Swim, I guess” Jason says. “Okay let’s do it” Justin replies. As they prepare to swim to the bottom the eclipse is beginning again. “We better hurry. Three, two, one, go.” They swim as fast as they can to the bottom. Once there they find out that the light was a gleaming portal back to the regular world. As soon as they touch the portal they begin to transfer back to Folkland.
Back in Folkland Justin and Jason run straight back to Justin’s grandmother’s house and they try to explain what happened but Justin’s grandmother doesn’t understand but still remembers them. Jason decides to go back to his house and Justin does too. They make a promise to each other that they’ll never go back into the woods again. Also they make a promise to each other that they will never speak of it again.

Chapter 2
After about a year of this he realized he was getting better. He realized that all of this hard work was paying off. Before he knew it he was 11 years old and going into Junior High. At this time his parents were really having a hard time providing for his family. So naturally Jake knew like always that he wouldn’t be able to play organized basketball for the school. This wasn’t new to Jake so that year he continued getting better by playing on the downtown court with the older guys.
One cold, crisp winter night he was playing in one of the daily games and something amazing happened. Jake had scored a basket! He was so surprised! From this point on he started being able to score a least a basket each game. And then one day his mom said that she and his dad had made enough money for him to play organized basketball for the school. His mom told him when he came back from one of the downtown basketball games. Should he take the offer or should he not?...

Chapter 1
There was a basketball player who was the best in the NBA. His name was Jake Bryant. He came from a poor family. In his childhood he never thought he would ever get out of that New York slum. Every night from the time that he was 8 years old he would go down to the downtown court. In the lights of that court he would get beat up by the 20 year old's that he was trying to face. They would block him and steal the ball from him. Everything bad that can happen in a basketball game. How was this going to make him a better basketball player?

How would you design the library of the future?

It would be on the 2nd floor of a building and the floor would be clear so you could see under the floor. There would be lots of comfy chairs. There would be machines in the library so that if you couldn’t find a book you could just search it and then pick the one that you want and it would appear in a little drop box in the machine and then you would just take it out. That would be really cool. I think it would be a lot easier to find a book if we could do that.

Prejudice is to dislike someone because of something they’ve done. It is also an opinion that is not from an actual experience that the person has had. A long time ago white American people were very prejudiced toward the African American. But now there is no segregation and everyone has equal rights.

When I started playing basketball I got really good at it and I still am a great basketball player. I have also gotten the privilege to travel to a lot of places. In my life I have gone to 27 countries. On January 9, 2010 me and my family left for a trip around the world for 6 months. It was the best thing that I’ve ever experienced in my life. We did a lot of cool things on the trip. Another thing about me is that I’ve lived in 3 different states including Texas (that was where I was born), Minnesota, and now Georgia. My dad was born in Italy because his parents were missionaries there. My mom was born in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. I’ve been to a lot of places in the U.S. too. I’m a good goalie in soccer. I also play football.

The best thing about 6th Grade is…
One of the best things is that we get more freedom than we ever got in elementary school. Also, lunch is much better that it was in elementary school. I also like having a Mac. It makes homework much better and I feel like it helps me focus better. I also like being in a different class every period.
