Dear Freshy,
Well, in 9th grade your gonna have a lot more work to do. The teachers aren't like they used to be where they just give you one assigment a week. Now you have so much work to do. It's tiring. You're just going to want to get the year over with so you don't have to deal with it anymore. It's sometimes too much to handle.
There are some good things about being a freshman though. For example, when its comes to being field day you can do whatever you want. You can just walk around and have as much fun as possible. Another would be when its time for the talent show. The talent show is one of the best parts of the year. That's about it for being a freshman.
Sincerely,
Lance.

Dear Freshy
Look there is a lot of things you’ll need to know before you enter into deeper water of the high school. Also this is the most difficult part of your life because even though you are new. You will have to act like a young adult like your 8th grade teachers are trying to tell you. There are things you are going to need to know, like in English you’ll have to do these blogs like every week. Trust me they may seem easy and blow of able but take it from a guy who knows if you blow them off you’ll fall for sure.
Ok well that’s all I'm going to tell you because the rest is for you to decide and learn and trust me its going to be fun to watch. Have fun exploring and meeting your teachers bye for now.
From Brandon

Dear Freshy,
Being a freshman is very fun and exciting but there are some things you should look out for. It is nothing too bad just do your work and stay on the teachers good side and you will make it through the year with minimal emotional scarring. One of the top things is to watch out for Miss Transue. She has what she calls her spider sense for teachers. She will just appear out of nowhere and catch you in the middle of just about anything you should not be doing. I just call it bad timing and plain creepy. Another thing she will make you stand up and do jumping jacks if you do not participate. One last thing about Miss Transue if she tells you to do something then just say “Yes Miss Transue” and do it no back talk. Mr. Hein he may seem like a big joker but even he needs to be serious sometimes. Mr. Woolcock nothing to major just do the lab work and you will do fine. Mrs. Farr’s class is pretty easy but do well because she does not do summer school. Also it will be pretty embarrassing to walk into her class as a junior surrounded by a bunch of freshman. Those of you who get stuck with Mr. Delano for math good luck. He can be a very interesting individual but not always a very good teacher. Just remember to have fun and pay attention to your teachers and you will make it through just fine.
Good Luck,
Zach S.

Dear Freshy,
So you’ve all made it to the actual High School. No more Jr. High School stuff. Well, that doesn’t mean it’s going to be easy. You’re about to have a lot of classes that you might like, and that you might not like. A lot of teachers that will push you to the point where you think that they don’t like you, well, it’s not hard if you look past that. What they do, they do to prepare you for the world. To quote Red Forman from That 70’s Show “If you let your guard down, it’ll kick you right in the butt”. And this sentence couldn’t me more true (Of course, I’ve edited it to be school appropriate), even if it was from a comedic show.
Ninth is hard, if you don’t know what you’re doing. You’re going to be expected to know the difference between many things, be it Shakespearian words (Which you might know some of already from Mrs. Michalek), or the regular English language. English class has to be one of the hardest out there (unless you’re good at it, unlike I was). I struggled a lot with the Annotations you’re going to have to do for a lot of the books Miss. Transue is going to ask you to do. Ranging from 3-6 annotations per page, or chapter, of a book you’ll get.
But, that’s just the stuff in between the good stuff. Now that you’re in Ninth, you get to do a lot more. Pep Rallies, Better Field Day, awesome Field Trips, and all you need do, is talk to your class officers. This is what their there for. Make no suggestions, have no fun. For a Field trip this year (2011), I went to Dourny Park, got sun burnt, and road a lot of Roller Costars. And maybe you will too, or maybe you’ll go to another choice I had to vote for, Hershey Park. Or, maybe Six Flags. Who knows, but you never will, if you don’t talk to them.
See ya in the Lunch Room,
Robert

Dear Freshy,
Freshman year way more fun and exciting then the Jr. High! You get to to do more things, like go to homecoming, you get to be in Key Club, and many other clubs! I recommend Key Club because it's very fun and you get to help others! You get to do gifts for giving, adopt a classroom and many other fun things! I did adopt a classroom and it was so much fun! It made my day seeing all the little kids giggling and smiling!
Also being a freshman is great because you get to have a greater variety of classes! Like this year I did reading skills, math skills, and writing skills! They were all great and helped me greatly! Plus all the teachers are really nice and funny! Especially Mr. Hein the Civics teacher! He will always make you have a laugh in his class! Also, same with Mr. Bart, one of the math teachers! Have fun this year and try hard, but also most importantly good luck!!
Sincerely, Brittany A

Heads up, Eighth Graders because if you though eighth grade was hard you have seen NOTHING yet. There’s more work UGH way more work from back to back. I’m sorry if I’m getting you a little scared, but I’m only trying to help you. Sometimes being a freshman isn’t all that bad especially when you have amazing teachers (I meant that with sarcasm). You have a lot of cool projects you can do in class.
Another thing about being a freshman is that you have some cool prep rallies and if you keep your spirit on you will have more fun. Don’t have too much fun with being a freshman because there’s also the work you got to be on top on. It’s not long before you will be out of here so just make everything worth it. Try your best and make good effort and I promise you will be a sophomore, but they are not as cool as the freshman. Good luck to all the future freshmen out there especially you class of 2015 your going to need it.
Sincerely,
Antuan

Dear Freshy,
I found that freshman year is way more interesting than Junior High. As a freshman you are involved in a lot more activities. Such as, assemblies, pep rallies, talent shows, and field day. Also you are given a greater variety of extracurricular activities to choose from. Like key club, student council, FBLA, and other clubs. I highly recommend you join FBLA. It is a great experience and looks good on a college application.
However, you still need to work hard your freshman year. Do not get behind on your work and give it your best. If you do that I guarantee the year will be a breeze. Also I suggest you get involved in as many activities you can. It is fun to be involved in the events around the school. Have fun this year and good luck!
Sincerely, Tyler A

Dear new freshmen,
How do you think being a freshman will be different from 8th grade? Here are some of the good times you will have and some of the bad times. Some of the good things of being a freshman is that you don’t really have a lot of homework. One other good thing is that you have a lot more time to get your work done. One last thing that’s good about 9th grade is that you get to pick your own classes and you doesn’t have to have classes made up for you.
Some of the bad things about being a freshman is that you have to take a lot of tests. Also, being a freshman you are at the bottom of high school. Another bad thing is that you have a lot of responsibility to get you work handed in on time. Also the teachers don’t keep mentioning that you have to get your work handed in. They tell you once and you have to get it done. That goes back to the responsibility part.
Sincerely,
A freshmen
Kyle

Dear back freckle,
There are many things you need to know to succeed as freshmen. However if you are organized and focused you will be fine. I don’t recommend slacking off because then you are stressed out at the end of the year when you should be relaxing. Sports are a given, play them especially wrestling. If you’re a busy person then you’ll be golden and will prevail. Work out, nobody likes being out of shape.
The teachers are nice as long as you do your work. Study for test to pass. Don’t be obnoxious otherwise you’ll be sitting in the dean of student’s office. And always keep it nice or neutral.
Sincerely (an upper classman),
Colby M

Dear Freshman,
You’re now going to encounter both the positives and negatives of ninth grade. Ninth grade gives you the chance to take part in exciting activities such the talent show, field days, varsity sports, pep rallies, etc. One thing you should really do is just get involved. Start now. Join Student Council and Key Club; they’re amazing to be a part of. It’ll make your high school experience very enjoyable.
Also, you hear about the whole discrimination against freshman I know, but I didn’t find it a big deal at all. Don’t even worry about it.
One thing I can’t stress more is to never get behind in your work. Ninth grade isn’t the time to start slacking off in school. You must stay focused and just do the work. Seriously, who feels like doing homework and projects? Just do them. Missing even one homework, project, or doing awful on a test can do your grade more harm than you may think.
I wish all of you the best of luck! Have fun and do well.
Sincerely,
Rachel
