Her short brown hair glistened in the sun, her red lips shone with happiness and delight. Gently she reached her small shrivelled out to touch me. Her black cardigan blew in the wind as she limped her way along the path, with me held close to her I could feel the warming heat of her love. Her shoes made a soft clicking noise, her bracelets clacked together, as she moved closer to me.

Her voice was so soft and calm I had to ask her again what she was saying. The movements she made were so careful and gentle it looked like she was scared of walking.

Green bright and colourful, I have never seen her garden with one little weed, it gets cared for nearly every day. The two fish ponds are always clean and the fish are always healthy.

Once every year we have a school athletics day, this involves every student in the school. There are a variety of choices to compete in, including high jump, long jump, discus, vortex, shot-put and a variety of running races. This was fun to be able to compete in a day of sunny weather and go out there and gain points for my house group. The next week after that the results were announced and Hulme my house group got second over all WOW! Now a long weeks wait for the cluster where the Reporoa Schools cluster will compete for the school they represent.

taking samples

During last term room 4s focus was to complete an investigation that would show how to help our stream and lake become healthier.

I worked along with Claudia Thomas to investigate 4 jars of water. Each jar had a different type of water in it. In one jar was rain water in the other was tap water the 3rd jar had stream water in it and the forth jar had a sample of water which I call the stream sample 2.

Our aim was to see what sample grew the most algae. I thought that the stream sample 2 would because it looked the dirtiest and unhealthiest. Leading up to the day that we had to share the investigation to the class I recorded every 3 days how the samples changed.

Overall I found that the rain water turned from clear to green the stream water from clear to green and the tap water stayed the same, but the stream sample 2 grew a little algae and the water turned browner.

I found this investigation interesting because I learned a lot and had a lot of fun!

testing the stream

Last term room4 had a scientist come into our class to take samples of our local stream behind the school.

The scientist helped us test the ph. in the stream. The ph. Is the amount of acidity in the water, depending on the amount of ph.in the stream it is either healthy or not. Our end result was a positive result that the stream had produced for us that day. One other test room4 took was the velocity test. The velocity in the flow rate of the stream, the velocity is important because if the stream isn’t flowing it could get clogged up with the pollution in the water. The last test that we did was the clarity test; the clarity is the clearness of the water. The stream was very murky in some places and very healthy in others.

I found that the streams health was healthier than I expected it to be. I found that I you need to test the stream before you make any decision on the health of it.

Horse riding has become a big part of the Rerewhakaaitu community. We have a rural pony club, which several students from school attend. In April, 2011 two equestrian teams from Lake Rerewhakaaitu School journeyed all the way to Kawerau to represent the school as a group in a show Crosse event. The weather was not particularly what we hoped for with consistent heavy showers. The two groups that competed rode strong even in the ugly conditions and finished with a great result. I rode along with Claudia Thomas, Ellis Watson and Ariana Halley, in the end our team come away with outstanding first place. The other team also came away with an astonishing second place the team members, Samantha Rini, Tasmin Wood, Rebeka Watson and Shylah Halley were all very pleased with their efforts.

Running onto the field straight faced ready to play.
Uneasily Ma Nonu passed a French player and yes off he races.
Gathering together with nerve we waited for the final whistle.
Bandannas held up with luck and excitement.
Years had passed as New Zealand waited for victory, to hold the world cup in our hands!

Taupo rep netball!!!

The ball came hurtling towards me. Catching it, I swiftly look around “here” I passed but ‘no’ it didn’t make it. It got caught in the hands of a Hastings player but furiously the team got to work to get it back.
The end of a hard frustrating game had come to an end and a pack of sad children walked off the court. This had been a fun but bitter day and the hard work had been worth it because we walked away proudly with a medal for runners up!!!
Now back to Rotorua for a relaxing swim before coming home to show-off my medals.

in march I trailed for the Rotorua netball rep team. I qualified and practised hard for many weeks. I went to 3 tournaments before Taupo and won the Rotorua tournament. This has been a great opportunity to meat new friends and learn new netball skills.
