Disaster Response!

Article posted October 27, 2011 at 03:01 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 128

Disaster response. It sounds so… epic when you say it. It rolls off of your tongue and into your brain when you say it. By that I mean that when you say it lots of questions pop up in your head. Some of them are, what is it and what does it mean? How does our world need do to better on it? And, why would someone as cool as him be interested in it? I’ll explain each one.

Disaster response (my guess) is how we respond to things like earthquakes, tsunamis, and tornados. In other words disaster response is how we help the victims of disasters. The dictionary doesn’t say disaster response, so I’ll tell you what a disaster is. A disaster is something like an event or occurrence causing great distress. So that would mean that disaster response is how we deal with the distress, and how we help the people who have or are victims of the distress. An example is the earthquake in Japan.

Now it’s time for the next thing we talk about. It’s how our world needs to improve on disaster response. Recently in Nevada there was the Air Races. At the Air Races there was a crash, and many people were either killed or seriously injured. The Renown hospital was on code triage. That is when the hospital finds all available workers, and everyone has to do something. My brother was at the Air races that day, but he left before it happened. Anyways, I think triage is a good idea. I think that because the more people you have, the more people will be healed. But there are some bad things about code triage. One thing is, say you had a hospital and you were on code triage. One of your patients has a very serious injury. The person who specializes in your patients category is missing. Then you go and look for the second best, and that person’s missing too. So it keeps going on, and on, and by the time you find a person to do the job, your patient’s dead. So I think that if the person isn’t very far away, you should fly them there to help.

Now it’s time for the final part of my blog. I tell you why I’m interested in this. I think that everyone should get the right kind of doctors for what they need. I think that because I would want the right doctor, and I know everybody else would. I also feel bad for the victims, and the doctors on code triage. I think that it must be terrifying being a victim, because when I saw the crash, I was scared! My final reason is that if I had a horrible injury, I would want to get better as fast as I could.

Well, I hope that you learned about disaster response. If you didn’t, this was a big waste of time for both of us. I learned a lot too! I had a good time writing this, and getting writer’s cramp. See ya!

P.S. Kids, do your homework ! I don’t want to be held accountable for some kids reading my blog instead of doing homework. Get good grades! Bye!

Typing V.S. Print

Article posted October 6, 2011 at 05:29 AM GMT0 • comment (6) • Reads 187

Typing or handwriting? I would go for typing. I like typing better because you can always check grammar and spelling. I would also go for typing because it’s fast and easy to fix mistakes. You can save typing on your computer, but you could lose writing fast because you might have folded it up and put it into your back pocket and lost it when you put your pants in the wash. The only way that you could do that with typing is if you printed it then did it (which would be easy to print again), or folded your computer up and put it in the wash. Typing is fun because you can watch your hands fly around the keyboard and with every letter they drop a tiny skydiver onto the city of E, forest of W, or the ruins of Q. Of course that’s just imagination. With typing you could do Word Art or fancy colors. With writing you have to use crayons which rubs off, and you could never turn it in to your teacher. What do you think about my blog? Remember to tour the forest of W!

My Nickname

Article posted September 30, 2011 at 05:04 AM GMT0 • comment • Reads 131

Welcome to the first episode of season two of The Colton Show! Today we’ll talk about nicknames. My totally cool nickname is C-train. My brother Mitchell’s football coach (Coach Matt) gave me that nickname. It means something like freight train. He gave me that nickname because he said that I hit hard in football, and a freight train would hit hard if you jumped in front of it. I really like my nickname because... well... I don’t know exactly why, but I think that I might have a few reasons. I think that C-train is a really cool name because it goes along with my theme song Crazytrain, and that nickname fits me well. Better than my old nickname at least. Colton could be a nickname for me because my name isn’t Colton Reid, it’s J Colton Reid. That would be a horrible nickname. Tune in next time for more! Harry Potter 7 part 2

Article posted July 15, 2011 at 06:31 PM GMT0 • comment (3) • Reads 303

Hey Mrs. Crosby, guess what I did last night… I saw Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows part Two, AT MIDNIGHT!!! Oh yeah. I bet that you didn’t do that. And I dressed up as Colin Creevey. And on top of it all, I was interviewed on Channel 2 News! But, a bad part is that Wyatt invited Gabe. Wyatt dressed up as a quittich player, Nina was Luna Lovegood, you already know who I was, and Gabe wore the Sirius Black costume that Wyatt wore to school. Mitch didn’t dress up. We’re all so bummed that there aren’t anymore movies. Sorry that I don’t have the Hawaii thing on my blog yet, we’re having problems getting pics on. The best part of my trip was the helicopter ride we did. Until next time!

So, as my title might have given it away, I have a blogging problem!!! I'm so sad because I know how much you LOVE my work, and you haven't been able to read it. I hope that this will go in so you can try to fix the problem.

Oh right, you need to know my problem if you want to fix it. Here it is... Okay, so I recently checked (this morning) if you had posted all the blogs I've sent and you only posted one! I don't know if you're even getting them. Just telling you. I'm at home and working on the Kauai slide show. I'm going to Utah in a couple days. All right. Goodbye!

P.S. Still don't have all the pictures from Kauai. Happy 4th of July!

First Day Off of School

Article posted June 10, 2011 at 03:31 AM GMT0 • comment (1) • Reads 238

Ahh. Finally some relaxation! Today is the first day off of school, and man it is happy! When we were walking home from school yesterday, my mom said that we would go up to the lake. But this morning, we decided that we all wanted our first day off to be a “stay at home and relax day.” It was. We wanted to ride our bikes up at the park, so we did! When we got home and were eating lunch, our dog Trixie started barking. We looked outside, and there was a big coyote in the backyard! Then later, my mom took us over to our dad’s house, because it was his night. He told us that my uncle Rory, and cousin Mason were coming over, and we were going to go fishing tomorrow! We played outside for a little while. After that we came inside for dinner. We’re still waiting for Rory and Mason though. How’s your first day off? Well, just wanted to tell ya what was goin’ on. See ya!

Goodbye 4th Grade... Hello 5th Grade

Article posted June 2, 2011 at 03:41 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 215

Goodbye 4th grade... Hello 5th grade!

This ninja awesome year is almost gone! I don't know if there's anything that can cheer me up! I took advantage of 4th grade, and now we've only got like 5 days left. WAAAAAAAAA=http://=http://!! At least I've got the same teacher next year. I will tell you all the good things that happened to me this year... That's to hard! I know; I'll just tell you what I improved on this year, and what I want to keep working on next year. This year I improved on nothing! No, that's a joke. I improved on my typing skills. But most of all, I improved on putting more effort, time, and meat into my work. Believe it or not, I improved on talking! Next year I think I'll improve more on the same stuff, because it's the same teacher. Do you know what I mean? It would be just marvelous if Mrs. Crosby would try to be a little (actually a lot) less critical of me. I would like to do some more work on the Thomas Creek Trail next year, and I swear, If those guys vandalize it again... I'll SCREAM!!! One thing I'm really looking forward to in the summer, is going to Kauai for the first time! Well, this is the end of season one of The Colton Show! Send in some comments, and watch the next season! If you're in 4th grade (Mrs. Crosby's class) too, tell me what you thought of the Thomas Creek thing. Goodbye 4th grade... Hello 5th grade!

Honesty

Article posted May 26, 2011 at 03:58 PM GMT0 • comment (1) • Reads 225

I think honesty is telling the truth even when there is an “easy lie.” The dictionary says:

1.The quality or fact of being honest; uprightness and fairness.
2.Truthfulness, sincerity, or frankness.
3.Freedom from deceit or fraud.

Those are all really good definitions, and they all kind of said the same thing. When I said easy lie earlier, I meant a lie that no one would notice for a long time and if you were caught, you could explain easily. I chose honesty because I feel that everyone (me, you, you’re family, the government) tells lies one way or another. If lying is as big as most people think it is, where did the quote “Sometimes it is better to tell a small lie, rather than the truth.” come from? I agree with that fully, and I bet that most of you do to. Here’s the problem, if you tell a small lie and the person you did it to finds out, they could get really mad. There is a big difference between a small lie, or a “nice lie” and a full-on rotten, mean lie, or an “easy lie.” The first two are to help someone, and the last two are just mean. Everyone tells lies, even if you try your hardest not to. I wonder if some people consider the “helping lies” are bad. I sure don’t. Do you? I think that .it is better to keep quiet and as my mom says, don’t say anything at all, if you can’t think of something nice to say.

I think everyone needs to work on honesty, but no one will perfect it. I think it’s too hard for a human to perfect something this big. For example, sometimes honesty is owning up to your mistakes, sometimes it’s not telling lies, sometimes it’s telling someone that you were planning to do something to them, and sometimes it’s just telling someone you’re going to do something. I need to work on it more than some people, and so do you. I think that kids my age should really try as hard as they can to not lie, but remember, no one’s perfect so you might still lie. I think that even adults should try hard too. The economy needs to work on it too. They should tell the consumer all the ingredients in their product so you won’t have an allergic reaction or something. They should tell what risks there are to taking a certain medicine. Those are just a couple of examples. Those are my thoughts on honesty, what are yours?

A Vacation that I LOVE

Article posted April 21, 2011 at 12:02 AM GMT0 • comment (2) • Reads 281

There are a lot of places that I would like to go on vacation, but for me to blog about it I need to LOVE it. After about 5 minutes of extremely hard thinking, I’ve come down to two. The first place is a place that no one who has read this (or is reading it) has ever seen, and I just LOVE this idea. I’d like to travel back to the time of the dinosaurs. Not just any time of the dinosaurs, the cretatious period. I’d like to see how dinosaurs really got extinct and witness it but escape just in time! before I did that I would scuba dive with dinosaurs. Speaking of scuba diving with giant creatures, I read in a scuba magazine that a guy scubas with an elephant named Rajah. That’s no joke. Anyways, doing what I would do (if I did it successfully) would probably make me go down in the books as a famous something. I could also find new kinds of dinosaurs. I could go on and on about this but I’ve got too much more to write about. I guess that this “vacation” really isn’t much of a vacation, but an exploration would be a better description.

My second place is another place that I just LOVE. It would be going back to Orlando. I would like to do that because the rides at their theme parks never get old. I also love the warm weather that never leaves Orlando. The only bad part is that Disney World and Universal Studios are just big “money pits.” A money pit is a place that kind of sucks your money. This vacation is more of a vacation.

Now’s the most fun part in my opinion, as you might have guessed, it’s time to debate the two places. I’ll start with good things and move into the bad. One good thing about the dinosaur trip is that I good become really famous and rich. Another good thing is that I would be the first to ever travel back in time. The last good thing (that I’ve thought of so far) is that I have always wanted to meet a real dinosaur, so that would be a great accomplishment for me. Okay, so that’s 3 good things for the dinosaur trip!Shall I tell you the good things about the Orlando vacation? (again, that I’ve thought of so far.) One is that I would get to do all the wonderful rides that I love again and again. I’d also love to get Butterbeer a lot. The last reason is that I would get a lot of exercise from doing all the running to get from ride to ride. That’s 3 good things about the Orlando trip! A tie! How extraordinary! So now I guess that we’ll have to say the bad things. Let’s start with dinosaur trip again. One obvious bad thing is that I might get eaten. Another is that I might not escape the meteor in time. 2 bad things for that trip, and so now we will say the bad things about Orlando. One is that I could get sun burnt so I can’t do rides. An easy one to see is that I might run out of money with buying food, getting into the parks, and the room fee. I highly doubt this one but it’s a possibility that I could get tired of the sunshine. 3 bad things for Orlando!

I guess we have a winner! The dinosaur vacation wins it all! Do you agree and why? Comment your answer! I really liked both, so it was really hard to choose. What did you like about the choices? You can comment that too! Wow, this was really exciting. I sure do LOVE the winner! Stay tuned for some more episodes of The Colton Show, (my other blogs) and you can see older episodes by going to www.crosyville.wikispaces.com, going onto Mrs. Crosby’s blog, clicking on Colton, and scrolling down.
