The First week of Summer!

Article posted June 12, 2012 at 01:56 PM GMT0 • comment (3) • Reads 414

The first week (except for Wednesday) have gone by, and it’s been good. I’ve let myself sleep longer, because now I don’t try to get ahead on work. I enjoy having more time to read books, and reread the Harry Potter series.

It feels weird at around 9:20 AM when I don’t have to leave for school. It also feels weird around 3:45 PM to 5:00 because I’m not doing any homework. The first few days, at those times, I didn’t know what to do with myself, so I just wandered around.

I’ve been to Lake Tahoe once, and the water was freezing! But I still had fun playing frisbee with my brother Mitch, up until he broke the frisbee (he wasn’t very good at it.). Later, I played a game sort of like tennis with my other brother, Wyatt. At about 5:00, all four siblings (Mitch, Wyatt, Nina, and I) played this fun game. In the game, you put a bucket somewhere, and you try and bounce it off of something, and then go into the bucket. Soon we watched the sunset, and went home.

This Saturday I’m going to Catalina Island, for a week. I won’t be able to blog then, so please don’t expect me to blog next week. Anyways, there I’ll sleep in an a-frame. This trip will be extra fun, because Mateo is going too. After Catalina, I’m going to San Deigo for a few days. After that trip, I’ll be ready to stay home for the summer. BV

I hope everybody else’s Summer so far, had been as fun and good as mine. Well, this is the first episode of the fourth season of the Colton Show, and GOODNIGHT=http://

Post-Sleepover blog

Article posted June 2, 2012 at 02:55 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 83

This blog is from right after I got home from the sleepover. It was a lot of fun. Except for the part where August accidentally jumped on my thumb, and it was bleeding. But it’s okay because I didn’t know that it happened for awhile, and still had a lot of fun. One of my favorite things at the sleepover was when me and August where jumping through hula-hoops that Corey (the awesome redhead) rolled. I also really liked capture the flag because I scored twice, and on defense, I did well. But I also had fun laughing with Michael, while waited for someone to come. I also enjoyed sitting in our sleeping bags and talking until a teacher came, when we would act asleep. But before that, Reece and I were sleeping bag monsters. It’s hard to explain how we did that, but Reece knows. I enjoyed showing off my shadow skills when I made a gorilla and a hummingbird. But then we had to sleep. By the way, what was that game that we played in the morning? At first I liked it, but then Ethan hurt me! Just kidding! Well, not really, but okay. The only thing that I can say now is… I’m tired!!!

My Last Hoorah At Fifth Grade!

Article posted May 30, 2012 at 01:14 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 83

Well, as I was starting to think about my last blog as a fifth grader (this one), I was reminded of all of the fun I had in the two years in Mrs. Crosby’s class. Then I thought of how much that fun helped me improve, to be who I am today.

The thing that I improved on the most in fifth grade is probably my ability to learn more. What I mean is that, in previous years, I would learn one thing, but forget a different thing that I learned. So I was spending extra time to re-learn a lot of things. But in this year I think I improved on cramming more stuff into my brain, and remembering them too. But how did I do that?

One reason that I thought of was that so much work was slammed in front of me, that my brain had no choice to remember things better. I told my brain, “No more being lazy, brain! Start working hard. Afterall, that’s why you’re here.”

Another, more logical, reason is that I started to remember things more because I used what I learned in school, outside of school. Like figuring what the tax on my parents’ groceries is. By using learning outside of school, I helped myself remember more because on a test I could be like, “How do you figure out the tax on groceries? Oh yeah, remember when I was figuring it out for my mom’s grocery list,” And I would get the question right (if my math is right).

My third reason is that naturally, my brain started to grow, and be able to hold more. If it was this option, maybe I could trust nature to fix all of my other school related problems. Probably not. I think that sometimes you can trust nature, and sometimes you have to take matters into your own hands, and try to fix it yourself.

Another thing that I thought I might add is that I really improved on note taking. Before fifth grade I never took notes on anything, and relied on my memory to help me in a test. But now I take notes a lot, and take notes well too. This made me happy, and improved my grades.

But after I thought of how I was sad to leave all of the fun I encountered in fifth grade, I thought of how much fun I was going to have in the Summer. Something that we do that I always love is “The Family Circle.” It’s when we visit many family members throughout Utah and Idaho. But this year is different. We are staying at my hilarious and young, great uncle’s. And we are going to watch The Stadium Of Fire fireworks show on the Fourth of July. But I’m really excited to go to Lagoon, a theme park in Utah. I’ve never been there, but on Google Earth I looked it up, and it looks like a lot of fun.

And after that, I wasn’t so sad. And because this is my last Hoorah at fifth grade, I want to end it well. Here it goes. Goodbye fifth grade! Remember to tune in for season three of The Colton Show because season two is ending... now!

Saving Sea Turtles!

Article posted May 3, 2012 at 01:58 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 86

I read the little booklet, Saving Sea Turtles. It touched me that people would do that for little Sea Turtles. I really enjoyed reading that. Anyways, five words, teamwork soul, kindness, risk, and diversity, popped out at me. Here’s how I think that they connect with the booklet that I read.

Kindness: In the dictionary, kindness is the ability to behave nicely, or the practice or tendency to sympathetic and compassionate. Knowing that, I think that kindness connects with the people who help the Sea Turtles in the book. I think that people who help them are very kind to the Sea Turtles, especially the volunteers. I said especially the volunteers because they don’t even have a job doing that, but take time from their days to help.

Teamwork: Teamwork is a cooperative effort by a team or group. I think that the connection is that the people who help the Sea Turtles have to work together to get all of the babies into the ocean, and sometimes to keep them alive for when they can get them into the ocean. I also think that if the people don’t get to the nest in time, the babies have to work together to get out of the nest. The babies also have to work together when they get out, to get to the ocean without being eaten or killed.

Soul: Soul is the nonphysical aspects of a person or other living thing. The connection to the book is that the people who help, have to have a good soul. Again, to take time out of your day (some of which are VERY busy) to help a tiny species grow back to normal size and not be paid. It also shows that they have a good soul when they wake up, late at night to go help them.

Risk: Risk is the chance of something going wrong. So the connection is that the people who help take the risk of having something go wrong when they try to save them. The turtles take a risk when they try to make a break for the water. The people take the risk of destroying one species (the birds that eat the turtles), while trying to save another (turtles).

Diversity: Diversity is when something is different. Right now, the Sea Turtle population is diverse from what it should be. The people who help are diverse from others who don’t help. Turtles themselves are diverse from each other too.

Well, I’ve explained the connections from the book to those words. I guess theat this episode of the Colton Show will be ending early! Air mail

This blog is coming from approximately 39,014 feet in the air. We are currently at the speed of 547 miles per hour, above Jackson, Mississippi. Can you guess what I’m doing? Correct! I’m in an airplane on my way to fabulous Orlando, Florida. The reason why I can blog from way up here is that our airplane has wi-fi. We couldn’t use it the first half though because it was too bumpy to get my mom’s laptop out. And they wouldn’t let us get up out of our seats to go to the bathroom so I almost peed my pants. Whew – that was a close one! This is just about the coolest blog ever because I’m sending it from way up high in our atmosphere. I bet you don’t have a blog this cool, and you never will! Looking out the window I can see lots of cloud and tiny, tiny roads and farms. Anyways, have a great week and try not to miss me too much!

Not-so-new situation in my life

Article posted March 7, 2012 at 03:16 AM GMT0 • comment (6) • Reads 157

Have you ever had a new, and hard situation in your life?

A new situation in my life that I had to deal with, is my parents divorce. Even though I had sort of expected it, when they told us, it felt like I had forgotten all about my suspicions. I had no say, so on the Thursday after my parents told us, my mom moved away. Luckily, my mom moved to Fieldcreek, which is only about two minutes away from my dad’s house.

Now comes the tricky part, explaining how I dealt with it. It’s hard because it’s a divorce and it always hurts, so there’s really no way to truly get over it. But there are some things that make it easier and better.

One really, really good thing is that my parents cooperate, don’t hate each other, and try not to fight in front of us, let alone fight. They cooperate by when we need something at Mom’s house but we’re at Dad’s, the things we need easily get over to Dad’s. Just so you know, that can happen vice-versa too. They don’t hate each other, and I know that because they don’t fight often. But the main reason is that if there is something that one parent wants to take us kids to but it is on the other parent’s night, they usually let the parent take us to it. That also shows that my parents really love my siblings and I. They try not to fight in front of us, and we rarely see them fighting. If we do see them fighting it’s mainly just a small argument.

Another good thing is that we came up with a schedule that I think everyone likes. It’s a two, two, five, five schedule. That means that we get two days (actually days means nights, NOT 24 hours) at Mom’s, then two at Dad’s. After that it’s five at Mom’s, then five at Dad’s. Then it restarts. I think that it’s a great schedule (even though it’s not perfect) because it works great, and each parent gets equal time. Also they each have vacation days, which sets boundaries for how long we can be on vacation with each parent. This schedule also works for all of our activities and sports (cheerleading isn’t a sport, it falls in with activities and requires little exercise, but that’s another story, not for now).

Those are the ways of how I dealt with it. Even though all of those things helped, there are also things that made those harder. One for the “great” schedule is that if a parent lets the other parent have the kids on a night of theirs, it is hard to give a day to the parent who gave a day so that it is a trade. Most of the time, it just ends up as a day given away. Another bad thing is that my parents do fight, just not in front of us. Those are just a few of the bad things, and I can’t say the rest, for we would be here for a long time and it would be an invasion of privacy.

So I ask you again, have you ever had a new, and hard experience in your life?

My Aunt's Wedding!!!!

Article posted January 13, 2012 at 05:25 AM GMT0 • comment (3) • Reads 174

An awesome story for over Christmas break. The obvious choice for me would be... My aunt's wedding!

My aunt's name was Coleen Ruth Altom before she got married. She got married to a guy named Scott Liddle, so her name is Coleen Ruth Liddle now. Anyways, they got married in the Salt Lake City temple. I didn't get to go to the ceremony because I'm only 10 years old. But me being too young to go into the ceremony led to another good thing.

So instead of the ceremony I went into the youth room. There I saw all of my cousins and then some. So I said hi to everyone, and started playing with my baby cousin Isaac. Soon my second cousin Aubrey came in. She's 24 years old. Aubrey is deaf. And so because of my knowledge of sign language (and what Mrs. Crosby taught me) I was able to have a great conversation with her.

All too soon it was time to go and do the dreaded pictures. But there was a good part, meeting the bride and groom. As we walked out of the youth room we talked to many "long lost" family members. I was keeping my baby cousins' company when we saw them . They walked through these gates and posed for some pictures. I felt Isaac's hard grasp on my pointer finger loosening, and before I knew it, he was slowly inching towards the bride and groom. Soon he was five feet away! The newly weds noticed, and crouched so that they were at his height. He still inched forward nervously until he was face to face with them. As always, Isaac had a worried expression on his face. Uncle Scott and Aunt Coleen waited, and eventually Isaac embraced them in a hug type thing. So we only had to endure half an hour of photos. Coleen and Scott on the other hand, had to do about two more hours of pictures out in the cold. Ha! Ha! Stinks for them!

Later at the wedding reception, something bad happened. I got boiling hot, hot chocolate spilled on me. We were sitting at a table, and Nina asked me to move so that Olivia (my cousin) could sit there. So, like a nice brother, I got up. But Olivia was not paying attention, and walked right into me! And you know what happened next. So for the rest of the party, I had to walk around with half of my shirt stained with what looked like dry blood.

What happened when we were driving back home is classified, so I'll only tell one part about it. It is, that we saw two UFOs over a military base, and after the UFOs went over the base, an air force Truck sped by.

Tell me if you've seen any UFOs. See ya soon!

Disneyland at Christmas

Article posted December 8, 2011 at 02:35 AM GMT0 • comment (1) • Reads 179

I do lots of blogs about funny things, so I wanted to do something different. I ended up deciding to do one of the most special Christmas memories that I’ve ever had. That memory is when we went to Disneyland for Christmas. How cool is that? Disneyland, one of the happiest places, at Christmas, one of the happiest times! Anyways, one morning Nina, Wyatt, and I woke up. We were walking out to the couch, but our mom stopped us. She said that we have to go into her room and wait for Mitchell to get up. Finally when he did he was quickly ushered into our mom’s room.

She said that we could slowly go out and see the table. I was as excited as an elephant who got a lifetime supply of peanuts when I saw it. At where someone sits there was a Mickey Mouse plate, a balloon with him on it was tied to something in the center of the table. next to the plates were a pack of gum and a card that said that we were going to Disneyland the very next day! That part was enough of a Christmas gift to last a lifetime, but we didn’t even go yet.

We got to L.A. at about 8 p.m. We took the airport shuttle to our hotel. by the time that we got there it was about 9:30. Our room had 2 bunk-beds and one regular bed. We put our stuff on the ground, climbed into any bed, and almost instantly fell asleep.

We woke up, and before we walked to Disneyland arranged the stuff that we put on the ground clumsily the night before. It was really warm outside, and halfway through our walk, we noticed an unusual thing. It was a white tip sort of like a mountaintop, and we could hear faint screams of pleasure coming from it. When we got inside the park we saw it, it was a mountaintop! And the screaming came from a ride inside of it. We wanted to head there, but our mom said that first we have to go on the ride called Magic Mountain. As she said it, she pointed to a cool looking building. The ride sounded cool, so no one complained.

As you may have guessed, we loved the ride. I was amazed at all of the sudden twists and turns, and especially at that fact that it was pitch black except for the “stars.” As soon as we were done we headed over to the mountain. That ride was just as cool, so I knew that I was in for a fun filled vacation.

But one of the most memorable things in the entire trip came at the end of the first day. With a grin on her face, our mom led us over to a mysterious building. It was dark outside, and almost every body had left the park. Through the darkness I could make out shapes of things like graves. There was a small line to get inside of the mysterious mansion, and as we entered the line two thoughts came into my head, that my mom had been planning this, and that this was a haunted mansion. As we waited, I heard workers calling out things like, “Move quickly, there’s no time to KILL, “ Keep walking, there’s no DEAD space. and “ Hurry up, people are DYING to be with you.” When my eyes grew accustomed to the dark, I saw graves and any thing else that might go along with a haunted mansion. But I also saw snow and mistletoe. So was this haunted mansion celebrating Christmas? It didn’t seem right.

When we entered we toured the mansion, and saw scary pictures of zombies and other things When our group got into one room the door shut itself. The walls began to move in, and then back out. a voice said for us to get in a vehicle and he would show us the rest of the mansion. The ride was themed like a movie we love. It’s called nightmare before Christmas. We loved the ride. It was our favorite ride. We enjoyed the rest of the trip. Now can you see why it’s a special Christmas memory?

Sad Family

Article posted November 17, 2011 at 04:13 AM GMT0 • comment (1) • Reads 120

I’m going to tell about something that my parents did that I could never forgive them for. On my list of top ten bad things it’s number 2. We do not need to go into my list though. I bet that you want to know what it is? Am I correct? If not, then you can leave and never come back to my blog. See, now look what you people who aren’t interested did. You got me ANGRY! So now I’ll have to tell about it angrily. GRRRHHH!

The thing is my parents divorce. For you people who don’t know what a divorce is, or don’t have divorced parents, it stinks. It’s worst at first, Then the next morning, It’s really stinks. Then it slowly, and I mean slowly gets a little bit better at a time. But, it will never heal all of the way. I still get angry or sad when I think about the day and day after my parents told me. I guess that this blog is also kind of like one of those things that comforts people about bad things in their life. I don’t really feel comfortable telling you about hat happened, so I’ll only tell some parts.

Our parents brought us together and told us that they were getting a divorce. Then all of us (even parents) started crying. We all took a walk around what would soon become Dad’s House. After we finished the walk, Mom told us that on Thursday we would go to her new house. We went over to Grandma’s house for Sunday dinner. We went to Mom’s House, and it was cool, but at that time we were all to sad to think that. Then we started our schedule, and it was hard to change houses. But after a month or two it got easier. My parents divorce wasn’t nearly as bad as some people’s parents, so you can see that it only gets worse in this case.

I don’t know what the outcome for this would be. It probably will be that my family and I feel better about this, but we can’t feel all the way better. It would also be that I still feel really sad and angry about that, but I maybe would be able to forgive my parents. It would depend on my mood for that day, and if I’d of thought that it was as hard for them as it was for me. So still maybe.

Okay, if anybody who wasn’t interested in this was still reading, I have no idea why you were. But I bet that you are somewhat interested in this now. This is the one and only time that Colton Reid will be signing off of the Colton Show in a sad mood. Okay, Hee we go. This is Colton Reid signing off. Boo hoo.
