Students have settled into a wonderful routine and have made their classroom feel like our home away from home! This week, we spent a lot of time working on fostering independence with literacy tasks. Our focus has been on read to self and read to someone. We are working on building our stamina and students have already successfully reached up to 16 minutes of independent literacy activities!

We also began working with our first capacity matrix of the year, practicing keeping track of our own learning. Students worked together on our 'classroom routines' matrix and are working on things like brainstorming and problem-solving independently.

Below are a few pictures from our classroom this week!

This week students had a great time getting to know their other teachers and learning about the parts of speech at the same time! Students rotated throughout our team classes to learn about verbs, nouns, adjectives, adverbs, and pronouns. As a culminating activity, students put on a grammatical fashion show! Using a template, they had to use all of the different parts of speech to write about what their partner was wearing, and how they were making their way down the runway! Students had a wonderful time and we even got to enjoy a celebratory dace party after our show was complete...what a great way to end the week! Below are a few pictures and short clips of the fun we had today! Enjoy!

It was a wonderful first few days of third grade in room 206! Students came together quickly and have already formed friendships that have made our classroom a fun and exciting place to be! In addition to getting to know one another, this week we worked hard to establish routines and classroom expectations. In collaboration with our grade-level teammates, we created our own shared vision and are in the process of writing our code of cooperation. It was wonderful to see students voting on their shared vision and I loved watching them have a voice in our classroom climate and decision-making.

Next week, we will begin more structured math and literacy blocks and students will even be switching classrooms for literacy activities in an effort to help them get to know their other teachers.

We look forward to sharing some pictures with you as soon as we receive all of our internet permission slips back!

It's here! To finish up studying parts of speech, specifically our standard on adverbs and adjectives, we decided to put on a grammatical fashion show! Students paired up with a buddy. While one walked "the red carpet", the other had to use nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs to describe what their partner was wearing and how they were making their way down the runway!

Here is a short video documenting our most recent virtual field trip on the Tandberg! This time, we "visited" a cotton farm in King's County, California. We learned all about the cotton plant, Eli Whitney and the Cotton Gin, and even got to pick seeds from our very own cotton samples sent straight from California! We had so much fun!

Today we used the app Tellagami to record what we learned this week! Tellagami is an app that lets you create an avatar and then type or record to give your avatar speech. Today, students recorded a few favorite things they learned this week! we decided to use this as a newsletter, so we then generated a QR code that links to each 'gami'. Students will take home the QR code for parents to scan, so they can hear about what we learned this week! Here is one example:

Over the past couple of weeks, we have been reading the novel "The BFG" as a class. Today, we read the chapter titled, "Frobscottle and Whizpoppers"! Frobscottle is a wonderful, green, fizzy drink that the BFG drinks while at his home in Giant Country. The other main character, Sophie very much liked Frobscottle, too, so we thought we would give it a try! Here are a few pictures of our first encounter with the BFG's favorite drink, Frobscottle!
