As the beginning for the social studies unit, Mrs. Coffey requested that each student create a list of words associated with "Culture". The students then created a word cloud (Tagxedo) with their word lists. Each student was then asked to write a brief explanation as to why they selected the shape of their Tagxedo.

I choose a picture of a giraffe because it is an animal from Africa, and I thought that Africa is a good place to learn culture.

Why do certain places have foods they are famous for?
Certain places have certain foods they are famous for because of their natural resources and climate (weather) such as Atlanta. Atlanta grows mangos because they have the climate that is just right for them to grow healthy. Japan makes sushi because it is an island surrounded by fish which is clean and very tasty to make sushi, as to South Africa, they are located in a certain spot, that is a great spot, to grow vegetables and to find lagoons (a certain kind of bird), but sometimes they use very cheap fish. In Spain, they eat tapas (again) because they are located in a certain place which grows the ingredients to make tapas. These are a couple of examples of Why do certain places have foods they are famous for.

The reason why I chose the South America shape was because I am from Chile which is in South America. Also because I like how it is a circle so it is like the Earth and the water would be the words and South America would be all white.

I choose the hand print because I think it is a good picture for culture because it shows how you look, or people's hand print and how old people are. I think it was a good choice.

I chose the picture Africa because my whole woordle is about (Tradition, Dancing, Food etc.) Also, because I wanted Africa to be my outline of my woordle because its a really interesting Continet.

I chose my picture, which is a "peace sign", because I think cultures need Peace ALL the time. That's why I picked it. :)

My decision to pick the shape of a globe came from the fact that that picture shows more of the Earth than any other backdrop, and culture is worldwide. It also gave plenty of space for all my words.
