Stranger in Jafrican!

In this Paragraph, I will be telling you a story about the stranger who came into our settlement.
Lea H told me about him. He is from a settlement called “River Island.” I saw him at night. When I saw him, I was a bit scared because I saw his shadow. When he came into the light, I saw that he had a friendly face. He told me he needed food because River Island ran out of resources, so we gave him some. He didn’t really tell us what his name was. He wanted to keep it a secret. He is a really kind person. We asked him if he wanted to stay and he said he couldn’t.

Question: Why do certain countries have foods they are famous for?
Answer: I’ve always been interested in different cultures and foods, so many countries have different ingredients for them, for example……..
The pine nuts, the thyme and olives are ingredients to Lebanese dishes. For example, pine nuts are used in the traditional Lebanese dessert baklava. Thyme is used in a universally loved dish loved all over the world, manoushe. One bite of manoushe makes you forget all of your problems and makes you feel like you don’t have a care in the world. Finally, olives are mostly eaten with a cheese and bread. The climate, location and landforms are all important for the ingredients that lie within a dish. Climate is extremely important, because if the weather was cold, delicious fruits and vegetables could not grow properly. Thankfully, Lebanon’s weather is somewhere in the middle, so we don’t have any problems with the climate. The location is also pretty important, for example, if you are near the seaside, you get a lot of water for your crops, which are the ingredients in your dishes, but if you live in a desert, you would have problems in trying to water your crops. Also, the animals are very important to dishes, because they are the protein.

Being Sick!!

One morning, I woke up feeling sick and it was the day I was going to pack for Ramlieh. I asked my dad since he was a doctor if I can go, but he decided not to send me because I wasn’t feeling well. While I was watching I felt very queasy, dizzy and not myself. I said to myself “Great!”
The sight of me being sick is not a pretty thing! The taste of my mucous was very disgusting. It was stuck in my throat! My heart was beating very loudly because I was disappointed I wasn’t going to Ramlieh. My head was like a volcano because I had a huge fever. I felt very queasy and dizzy.
Then my mom felt very bad that I stayed home so she took me out to get a toy. I first played with my toy, which was a diary. Second, I finished my homework which was writing. It took me a really long time. Samia, Wafik and Ghinwa all tried to cheer me up by getting me to be hyper. I was happy.
At the end, I am glad I didn’t go because I relaxed at home and just had time for myself. Also, I heard people got sick.

I chose the picture Africa because my whole woordle is about (Tradition, Dancing, Food etc.) Also, because I wanted Africa to be my outline of my woordle because its a really interesting Continet.

Mr. Boke Matters!

Dear Students, Faculty and Teachers,
Nicolas Boke is a fascinating person. Mr. Boke is an English and History teacher in high school. I find him interesting because he is fun, smart, and a very good teacher. This is what we talked about:
When were you at ACS?
From 1957-1961 [as a student] and 2007- 2012 [as a teacher].
Which courses are your favorite, Social Studies or English?
I like them both.
What is your favorite Lebanese food?
Mannoush with Zaatar.
What part of Lebanon you like the most?
Beirut.
What do you like/hate about ACS?
I like everything.
What do you love most about English?
Helping people see how complicated it is.
Thank you for reading my article. I hope you learned about Mr. Boke because he is an amazing English and History teacher. I think everyone should meet Mr. Boke because he is leaving this year. Everyone should really experience a conversation with him.

Pitching up the Tents

Have you ever set up a tent? Let me tell you about my experience: we went to Dier al Qamar for one night and two days. Mr. Andre (Our outdoor teacher) told us to set up the tent. He showed us how to do it perfectly and we did it after him.
When we started, I could hear the clanking of the tent poles as my friends were making their tents. I could taste the sweat coming down my face from the shiny sun. I could smell trees. I could feel the cold sliver tent poles as my friends were struggling while putting up their tents.
It was fun setting up the tents I hope you will enjoy yours.
