Show Not Tell: Bonfire
RG
It was finally night time at Deir El Qamar. 5A and 5D walked to the camp’s activity site. Everyone was saying that Mr. Andrea carried a flamethrower. It turns out that it was actually a water gun to put out the bonfire. Earlier, everyone collected sticks, then when night arrived, Mr. Andrea stacked two thick sticks on top of each other to form an Indian hut with thin sticks inside. Soon the wind formed a fire. Everyone sat around the bonfire while it blazed through the night as it grew bigger and bigger. The smoke coming from the bonfire filled my nose as it passed through my body. The twigs and charcoals scorched slowly in the bonfire. The heat from the bonfire warmed me and everything around it. Mr. Andrea told us stories about his adventures. At nine P.M., everyone went back to their tents while Mr. Andrea put out the bonfire.

It was finally the day the hour, the minute, the second, the millisecond that we stepped into the bus. It felt like our souls were being lit by fire. The scent of happiness wafted into my nose. I could feel the velvet of the seat touch me with all its softness. The bus began to move. The sound of people talking about the big trip ahead of us floated into my ears. An hour later, the bus pulled over. I stepped out and smelled the fresh scent of wind enter my nose. The journey ahead of us was not to think of, we should enjoy it as it comes….

I could smell the chicken in the BBQ roasting. When they gave it to us it smelled like heaven. The smell the fire was terrible, like putting your head on a fire. When it came out, the smell of garlic, burned chicken, and bread was delicious. I was starting to drool for it. I could feel the wetness of my own drool on my lips. I finally got one and when I bit it I felt the crunchiness of the chicken and the wetness of the sauce. I could hear the firewood for the BBQ burning it sounded as if they were wood in half. When I saw the person making the chicken, I wanted to eat it. The chicken sauce started to drip and the sides started burning. It was worth the wait until dinner.

The breakfast in Deir El Qamar was a fabulous sandwich called “Manoushi.” As I was waiting in line to get my zaatar manoushi, I could smell the oil, making me want to skip in line to get mine! I could hear the good comments about its taste. “Mmmmnnn,” My friends where saying.
Finally, there was one more person in front of me. It was my turn!
As I got my breakfast, I could see the oil dripping out making a pool. As I sat, I took a bite. I felt the dough touching my tongue. I could finally taste the wonderful manoushi!

Have you ever set up a tent? Let me tell you about my experience: we went to Dier al Qamar for one night and two days. Mr. Andre (Our outdoor teacher) told us to set up the tent. He showed us how to do it perfectly and we did it after him.
When we started, I could hear the clanking of the tent poles as my friends were making their tents. I could taste the sweat coming down my face from the shiny sun. I could smell trees. I could feel the cold sliver tent poles as my friends were struggling while putting up their tents.
It was fun setting up the tents I hope you will enjoy yours.

Have you ever been so tired in your life? I have, let me tell you a bit about coming back from a hike in Dier Al Qamar.
There was no water in my bottle, I was thirsty. I couldn’t handle the sun on my forehead; I felt my tears dripping from my eyes. I saw the water, I was looking at the birds and I said, “They are so lucky that they can drink water whenever they want.”
After two minutes, I heard people saying, “We arrived, we arrived!” I was so happy I got all my energy back, I was about to dance.

In Deir al-Kamar we played this game called “Capture the Flag.” I could smell all the trees and nature’s wonderful smell. I could see the two people running. I could taste the saltiness of my sweat. I could feel the flag rub against my face as I sprinted across the room the field. I could hear the cheering when I crossed the LINE (meaning I won!)

Is he trying to kill us? I need water. My heart was going to blow up. In the middle of a deserted mountain, I could taste blood in my mouth.
The needles would sting through my pants. The area filled up with my screams.
“Help Help”
Just then I saw the camp site. I started to run The next thing I knew I was taking a nap

Once I got to the gas station I heard the sound of the machine. I also smelled the gas coming from the machine. It was awful! I quickly closed the window before the smell came in the car. But my mom said it would be better if I just went out of the car, so I did. Once I got out I touched the car and then looked at my hand and it was all grey. I told my mom that I bet it would be better if we also washed the car, and she agreed. We waited until the car got full of gas then they washed the car. I stood next to them to see how they do it, and all of a sudden I got splashed with water. My sister saw me and burst out laughing! I went to tell her to be quiet so I did and then she said sorry. We waited for a very long time until they were done and then we left.

I was walking up the stairs to the roof of the building. I was about to burst with excitement. I could smell the metal and feel it too. The moon was beautiful. I could see all the craters, the dust, and how bright it was. I heard myself put my on the eyepiece and BOOM, there it was so bright in the sky, and also the second brightest object in the sky after the sun. I was so happy because I finally saw a moon through a telescope. Sadly, time passed by way to quickly and I felt Coach Wissam’s hand on my shoulder and I had to give someone else a turn.

As the sun sinks into the sea and dark falls, Coach Wissam screams, “Go to your tents!” The smell of nature fills my nostrils. I nagged in my mind that I am not tired. I saw nothing but darkness. I ran over to my leaf green tent as I felt my back touch the soft thing on top of the tent ground: my sleeping bag. All I saw was a crowded tent full of sleeping bags till my roommates came in the tent. I lay on my sleeping bag till I heard a small whisper from another tent. Chaos started after one whisper. BOOM! Everyone started talking and using their camera. I thought it couldn’t get any worse, but it did get worse. People started going out of their tent. Then I heard louder voices, and the sound of people echoed in my ear. All the teachers heard us talking; we woke up most of the teachers there. I think we all felt a shock of fright when we heard wolves howl. We stayed up all night long.

“Tsh tsh tsh,” was the sound the tents made when we were flapping them to get rid of the dust. The smell was a strange mixture of dirt and plastic. I felt that the metal we removed from the tents could be stretched and bent. I could almost taste my salty sweat because it was so hot, but the nature we saw was so beautiful, we almost didn’t feel the heat. Deir El Qamar was a great experience.

It was a crisp frosty night. Four young boys were camping in a small tent, telling scary stories. As they were telling scary stories they could feel the frightening chill crawl up their spines. They could imagine the enormous, vicious, monster in their head. They could hear the scary sounds tingling in their ears. They could smell the disgusting odor of the foul beast. Then they all fell asleep soundless having dreadful nightmares.

I could feel the stone I had in my hand, it scratched my fingers and palm. The stone was cold and hard. I made powder from the stone. I smelled the stone, it smelled like soil. I saw the pile of powder growing bigger and bigger. I heard the ugly sound of stones scratching each other. Some of the stone particles went into my mouth, they tasted like iron!

SF -- Sunset

On an evening, before the sunset, Coach Wissam told me to organize grade five A and D. I organized the classes and said, “If you are interested in looking at the sunset, meet with Coach Wissam after fifteen minutes.” As time went by, and fifteen minutes passed, we went to sit. The sunset was yellowish and it changed each minute.
The color was yellowish and it started to turn purple, blue, and orange. I could see the sun and I felt hot. As butterflies, bees, and grasshoppers were passing around us, I heard the bees buzzing around me. Clouds were grey, and grey meant that it was going to rain the second night. The sun was gone, but the light wasn’t gone yet. We started to wonder why the light didn’t go. When the sun was gone, Coach Wissam told us that it’s still sunny in Spain, and sets at nine and a half.
We had so much fun that I wanted to see the sun set again, because the colors were so nice. After the sunset, we went back to our tents , and had fun.
