This particular text was taught as an expository text. The focus was on the details of the paragraphs in the body of an expository text, and the topic was Ramlieh. Students had to write a general introduction, and state their opinion about the Ramlieh field trip (or any other overnight fieldtrip they had been on). This was their second expository text written in a timed atmosphere. Tis particular text however turned out as a personal narrative as the student had difficulties discerning between the characteristics of an expository text and a personal narrative. However, since they earn that throwing away written work is like throwing away money, we decided toad it to their portfolio anyway and classify it as a personal narrative. This text was written was written by Yasmina © January 2012.
It looked bright, but I didn’t think it did. The fire wood was darkening by the minute.. We sat down on hard chairs with no comfort at all; everyone looked so happy but I thought the only thing they were happy about was the rooms! Everyone was planning parties! Finally they said “we are going to assign you your rooms, then you go up.”
They called Layan’s and mine name. We took our bags and up the stairs we went. Room “12”. We were hoping it would be huge with a luxury bathroom, but to our surprise it wasn’t. Our room looked cute but cold. We wanted it to be our own. We wanted to put our suitcases somewhere; we wanted to be relaxed that was key for us. We got changed, did our hair and we were out. Down to the so called “lobby”. Everyone looked happy with who they were with. I was surprisingly happy. When we went down, we all washed our hands then into the dining room for lunch. Meatballs and rice: it was also surprisingly yummy. My roommate hated it, she didn’t eat anything I felt bad! We played games such as mine field, archery and many more. What I couldn’t wait for was the night! I hoped everyone would all come to Layans and my room and we would have a party, but teachers oh teachers. The night was by far the worst of the whole trip. We cried ourselves to sleep that night missing our mommies.
Overall I think the trip was successful we hated the food but enjoyed the atmosphere. We did rope course was by far the best activity ever we went down the zip line screaming WAHH!. We were all so tired from the trip that most of us fell asleep on the bus. So far the best school trip ever.

This Expository Text was written by Yasmina © January 2012, and focuses on the organizational aspects of an expository text
They are round and come in different colors they are un-useful and they just sit there. Some people may find them Beautiful but I personally think there horrendous they have no purpose! They make look gorgeous on some people or they may look ghostly. Have you figured out what it is?
Some people like to make fun of people with freckles. I don’t want to support that because I have freckles. No one has ever made fun of me because of my freckles. I think it’s rude! Some people have mega freckles and some people have one or two.
They range from red to brown – Topic of the year. I know it’s a silly topic but I find it kind of funny! I don’t know anyone who has ever made fun of freckles but if they did they would be salami. Pipi longstocking has freckles and they look adorable on her but not so much on me.
Freckles in a story mean fun but cute (Mischievous) and I think that right. There are probably a lot of book characters that have freckles and that fill me with pride! Most of my friends don’t have freckles but some of them do and that’s luck for them but not for meL. My teacher had freckles when she was little and they diminished. I wonder why? I think anyone can have freckle and it doesn’t depend on your background.
Basically I don’t like freckles and I think there is no use for them. Most of my family members have freckles not so much and not so little. I have freckles but my dad doesn’t not fair!
This is the product of a mini-lesson on how to write a solid expository text in less than an hour. Students had to pick a topic – any topic- and state their opinion about this topic. That would be the introduction. They then needed to come up with three facts that supported their opinion, these would be the 3 paragraphs in the body, and finally they would restate their opinion followed by the 3 facts, and that would function as the conclusion. This was their first attempt.

The Hospital
An Assisted Personal Narrative Written By Yasmina © October 2011
We are in a dull, scary unpleasant room waiting for results. I’m lying on a grey, hard which is meant to be a bed but no not a bed. Everyone is so tired that their eyes just shut and when someone, anyone, walks in they just magically open again. I’m trying to relax while my brother gives me the stare. I don’t know why? My mom is holding my hand and whispering to me and I find it so cute. I keep a smile on my face so that everyone knows that I’m okay, even if I did have time to talk it would waste my energy…I was thinking of school and what I would be doing right now if I was in there I was a bit bummed because I missed two weeks of school. At this moment all I wanted to do was get into my own bed and watch some T.V. but, no instead I’m in a hard rock bed with no T.V and everyone observing me . I just went through pain and now I can’t go to sleep! This was the worst, by far the worst day ever! Everyone got up and started chit-chatting while I was trying to sleep. The lights went on and the results were. The results were in , I had meningitis. After the results were in, the doctor said to me “don’t worry and please don’t panic!” I didn’t really know what was happening…
But the first question I asked was “Am I being admitted to the hospital”? They said “Yes only for 3 or 4 days.” I thought my life was over! So my dad and mom called the Insurance Company. Then my bother suggested my mom and him go home get my clothes, my toiletry stuff etc… And as my mom was leaving this evil wicked looking nurse came in with this gigantic, humongous big needle and she expected to put it through my skin too take a sample of my blood. She came closer and closer giving me the most evil look ever and she came up to me and said “Habbiti I need a sample of your blood” No way was I going to give my o positive blood to this wicked witch of the west and then suddenly I started to weep and she was about to stick a needle in my vain and then suddenly, I start to moan and cry and she just left the room. I was jumping with joy!
Then this young sweet, funny man can in with the needle and he said politely “Please could I have your hand?” I was shaking I wasn’t sure if I trusted him and then I started to cry I thought he would get out but he didn’t and then I gave up he put a rubber sticky band on my arm and he counted down from 3.3-2-1 and the needle went in and out went my scream! I kept on looking I would scream even more was it over? Of course not then, he pulled out the humongous needle out! Ow I thought. Then I knew what it was time for Spine Lumbar the doctor came in with his kit and I was too scared to look but I knew what he was going to do basically he was going to get a needle and a tube and take liquid out from my stood back (ow).So he asked me to put my stomach against the wall and my back towards him. So I did what he asked and he applied this numbing cream so I won’t feel it, but believe me I felt it whenever he moved it felt like someone had stabbed you over and over again my mom right by me telling me you’re going to be fine, just fine. I kept on asking “is it over” they kept on saying “2 more minutes” but I knew it wasn’t over finally he said it was over and that I could relax until they came in to put me on I.V then I would be put in my room. So the wicked nurse came in and I asked her “will it hurt “tell a little girl that it wand boom it went in then this man came in then this man came in with a wheel chair and he was going to take me too my room he picked me up and put a mask over my mouth and we left felt humiliated leaving the room I wanted my mom when we got too the room my was there waiting for me I was pleased she was waiting nervously I came in they put me on the bed it was so uncomfortable comparing to my bed right next to me was my mom she was staying with me so I felt extra safe….The morning cam quick lots of visitors came to see me My best friend had called and said she was coming I was so happy finally a child coming to visit me. There was so much trouble letting her in but then finally she came in! I was so happy but she looked scared of me when the time she had to go she was just getting settled but anyway I was going home tomorrow.. The morning had come and the nurse came in she asked me if I could take your I.V out I said “Yes” she took it out I left I was pleased because I was out of there.. I learnt that hospitals are scary!

I heard it was going to be amazing, but I wasn’t too sure. We each got up at 7:00 AM to go to school they wanted us to be at school by 8AM sharp. So we could leave by 9:00AM.When we got to school we had to put our luggage at the bus gate and go too our class. When I reached class everyone was there and they were all so excited (so was I) everyone had a huge smile on their faces. Everyone was talking about the “Camping Trip”. Finally it was time to go we all got in line and headed to the bus gate where the busses were. Everyone got on to this humongous bus and we buckled our seat-belt and we were off! We finally got there after that scary journey the camp site looked clean, beautiful and full of nature! Then coach Wissam started to talk about putting up a tent. Were they serious was I going to pitch a tent? They were serious so we had to put up our own tent and boy, that was scary! We did so many other things that were so much fun like going on a four mile hike (FUN) ,we had a scary camp fire at night and then got ready for bed, well at least they thought that! We stayed up talking for hours and hours and then we were busted! Our teacher came out and screamed so hard that the dogs could hear her all the way in china! So we went to bed from 1:AM to 3AM.And then we were all up again and we were all talking till about 6:AM then finally we all got up! Then in about 3 hours we were going back home to Beirut where I belonged. We played all sorts of activities and then we had to put our tents down . Then we got on the bus and headed home and wow I was tired!
