The Windy City

It was an unusually chilly morning in May 2010. I looked over at my clock and could not believe that it was really 3:30 in the morning; I thought I was having a bad dream. Everyone from class had to be in the big semi-circle driveway in the front of Lafayette High by 5:00 AM. We had to be there so early so we could check in and load our luggage on the big tour bus. I was still half asleep when it thundered in and stopped right in front of us. We loaded up, hugged our parents one more time, and then boarded our chariot for Chicago.

It took fifteen hours to get to our first stop, Springfield, Illinois. We spent most of our time listening to our iPods and playing games. Every now and then we swapped mp3 players to see what other music our friends had. We napped here and there, but the excitement of a road trip was too much to get real sleep. It was dark when we finally pulled in to our motel and were thankful for a break from the hum of the road.

Before I knew it, we were back on the bus roaring towards Chi-town. Breakfast was a blur because I was still groggy from the long trip here. We occupied our time with more sharing of music and a few rounds of I Spy. The trees were whizzing by when one of the chaperones came around for our lunch orders. Our options were few, but I was hungry so it really didn’t bother me. PB&J or Turkey; yum. More music, napping, and road games and then we pulled into our destination. We ate a quick dinner at an all-night buffet and retreated to our hotel for the night.

The next day, we woke up and had breakfast at the hotel. One word to describe my omelet: awesome. It was like a super-fluffy cloud of egg-cellence. The onions and bell peppers were fresh and crisp. It was like they were made for ME. Ahhhhh! Then, back on the bus to the Sear’s Tower.

The Sear’s Tower, now called the Willis Tower, stands 110 stories above S. Wacker Drive and is home to four banks, seven restaurants, a 24-hour bakery, and the members-only Metropolitan Club. We were only allowed up to the 105th floor, but that was plenty high enough for me. We were able to walk inside glass boxes that were hanging over the edge of the building; we could see the city and parts of Lake Michigan. After a brief stroll through the Sky High gift shop, we headed back to the ground floor. Whew!

The next day in the Windy City, we went to a bunch of neat places. We went to a giant garden that’s famous for how bad it smells; saw a giant silver egg; and saw two huge flowers that spit water on anything that walks by. We also went to the Art Institute of Chicago where we had prepared essays on some of the art showcased there. I stood in front of a Picasso painting called, "Les Trois Danseuses”, which means The Three Dancers, and read my essay. I talked about his early life and influences that led him to draw and paint. I got extra points because my paper was longer than expected.

The rest of the week was super fun. It was filled with more fluffy omelets and trips to cool sites like a butterfly garden, an aquarium, and the coolest science museum ever! The best part of the trip was when we visited U.S. Cellular Field to watch the White Sox take on the Marlins. Unfortunately, the Sox lost, but the experience was unforgettable.

My trip to the Windy City was awesome! I can’t wait to go back.

RSG Personal Connection

A personal connection I have with Red Scarf Girl: Part 1 is that Ji-Li Jiang had a da-zi-bao written about her and I have had a bad thing written about me making fun of me. Ji-Li Jiang’s school was also being changed into a very communist school with Red Successors and Red Leaders and my school is becoming more and more strict and picky of what we wear, eat, and do at school.

Ji-Li Jiang tried out to be a Red Successor and her family background (or her class status) wasn’t good enough because her grandfather was a landlord. I tried out for an office position in a club but I wasn’t popular enough so I didn’t get the position and I ended up just being a regular club member and not an officer.

A personal connection I have with Red Scarf Girl is that when Xi-Reng (Ji-Li’s dad) had to do physical labor for being bad and I once had to do physical labor for being bad too. Ji-Li Jiang always put family first in her life and I always like to put family first in my life too. Ji-Li Jiang was always kind to everyone even her enemies sometimes and her friends even if the worst happens and I am just like that sometimes. Ji-Li Jiang is sometimes mad for no reason and she didn’t know why and I am sometimes mad for no reason in my life.

I wonder how long Orion was in the back of Artemis' brain.... When Artemis got zapped by Holly, that triggered the secound stage of the Atlantis Complex. That's when Orion can out from the back of Artemis' head.

Yay! Holly warned Atlantis before the deep space shuttle could destroy it. Atlantis is saved=http:// They are having a huge evacuation. So no one is going to be hurt!!!

Bullying

Article posted March 4, 2011 at 03:03 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 128

1. Bullying is when a person is mean and hurtful toward someone else.

2. Some things I heard of that are consiterd bullying are a kid being teased about how he looks and a kid being cyber bulling.

3. A person who is a victim of bullying can report it to a teacher to make it stop.

4. What I can do to stop bullying at this school is to not just stand there and watch but to defend the person who is being bullyied and/or tell a teacher.

1. Compare: It is the same series.
It is a fiction book.

Contrast: The book I'm reading is fiction. It is about fictional people called fairies.

2. I feel that this book is going to be the best book it the series.

3. I do agree with the actions of the characters in the book I read.

4. The book relates to my own life because there is a character that is smart and I am smart. The book also has a lot humor and technology and I like both of those things.

As you begin

Article posted February 23, 2011 at 03:17 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 104

1. I think the book is going to be about an illness called Spelltropsy that is making a comeback to the fairy speicies. The only cure is the brain juice of the extint Silky Sifaka. Artimes is going back into time to save the last Silky Sifaka and get the antidote from the brain juice.

2. I think I would get along with Foaly the best because he has a cense of humor and is good with technology.

3. I predict the characters will face the young Artimes and the younger Butler in the past When Artimes goes back in time.

4. The connections I can make about the book is that the book is very creative and i'm very creative. The book is about a smart person and I'm very smart.
