Title: Should We Return to The Point? (12/13/10)
Description: Last week we took a field trip to the Garvies Point Museum and Preserve. We are also learning a lot about the Native Americans that once lived in New York. Let’s think about what we experienced there and answer some questions in your article. What was your favorite part of what we did at Garvies Point? Why did you choose that? Was there anything that surprised you about Native Americans? Would you recommend that next year’s fourth graders go on this trip as well? Why or why not? Support your opinion with details from the trip.

You may also add any other information that you would like.

I would also ask that you look at some of the WONDERFUL past blog entries of our class and make some comments to your classmates. We have done a very good job of expressing ourselves through our blog articles, and it is always great to get some feedback from your friends.

Of course… Make sure that you TRIPLE check your blog and your comments for proper capitalization, grammar, punctuation and spelling!

***Remember that a blog is NOT a journal. What you write can and will be viewed by other people, so DO NOT put any sensitive or personal information!***

My favorite part of Garvies Point Museum would be the pottery. I like this part because I learned so much. Also because I love doing clay. What surprised me about the Native Americans was how the dressed. Most of there clothes was made out of animal fur.  I think next year the fourth grade should go on the trip too. I hope they enjoy it just as much as we did.

My favorite part about gravies point is that we touched some of the tools that the Native Americans had. I loved this part because we can touch everything what native americans said. the man said most of them were made of wood fur and more. but i will think that the next years class will enjoy the trip so they can touch the tools and use them in.

Chris -- The point of going to Garvies Point

The part I liked the best at Garvies Point was drilling holes in rocks. I liked it the best because it was like a yo-yo. I was suprised that Native Americans didn't use metel for axes. I'd recommend bringing next years fourth grade class to Garvies Point because you learn so much about Native Americans. You learn what they use. You learn why they use clay. You learn what they wear, and you learn so much more.

My favorite part of the museum is when the man who showed us and let us see the Native American tools, explained what the tools were used for. I think this because it was interesting. I had a great time at Garvies Point Museum. I think it will be a fun trip for everyone else.

My favorite part of the trip was when we got to try out the native american tools. For example, we got to start a fire like they used to. I chose that because it was interesting seeing how they made fires. The thing that surprised me was when we found out Native American pots didn't have flat bottoms. And yes I do recommend next years fourth graders go.

I really liked visiting Garvies Point Museum. When we got there, we saw the Long Island Sound. I had 2 favorite parts. One of them is when we mashed corn, drilled a hole, and tried and make fire. the second part is when we got to hold the things and pass them around. I learned a lot and enjoyed it. Nothing really surprised me when we were learning about them. I pretty much knew a lot before we went. But I always like learning stuff again. After we went and made bowls out of clay. The clay smelled really bad. But it was fun. I think next year's class should go. It's really cool and fun. I want to come back to Garvies Point.

My favorite was making the real clay pots. I pick this because it was real clay that we touched and made it

tall like the Native Americans did too. They should  go to the field trip that we went because they should

learn about the Native Americans too. For example = They can see all the different kinds of weapons they made, how did make fire, make holes and make the corn.

The coolest thing about going to Garvies Point that day, was how the Native Americans hunted. It is unbelievable how they did it and how they became extinct.

My favorite part of Garvies Point Museum was the pottery part. I liked it a lot because I learned about how the Native Americans made pots and other things used. What surprised me is that  Native Americans had to do a lot more work making  fire than us. We have to just light a match and they had to do all sorts of stuff. I would reccomend  the next year fourth graders to go on the trip as well because it was so fun and educating.

My favorite part at Garvies Point was when we learned and tried out all the tools that Native Americans used in the past! I chose that because we got to try out how they made fire, how they made food, and so many other things. I was surprised at what the Native Americans wore and what they cooked with. I would recommend that the next 4th grade class go back because it was so amazing to learn what the Native Americans did in the past!!! =]

Manan -- The Garvies Point Museum

My favorite part of the museum was that the part when the man told us about the tools such as the corn grinder and the fire maker. I am so impressed that the Native Americans are so creative and they can survive also. This surprises me because they can adopt quickly and they can survive without electricity. They can keep their fur for the cold winter. I recommend fourth grade student to come this museum for next year because we have to learn what the Native American did before electricity and machine were invented.
I learned that Native American lived simple life and had respect for nature.
