Westminster Woods
I thought Westminster Woods was very fun and exciting. We did many fun activities like tide pooling, hiking, and campfire. We found many interesting things while on these adventures. This field trip to Westminster Woods was a lot more fun than I thought it would be.
I loved my cabin group. I had Lily, Katie, Faith, Emma, Mrs.Bates, and me. Once or twice during the day, we would have free time to just play and hangout with my friends. The first day we stayed in our cabin and played cards because it was raining too hard outside. Then, on our second day at Westminster Woods, I went to the cargo net with Mr.LaMarr and some other friends. Someone’s shoe fell through the net and into the creek. The next day at free time, a lot of DPM kids were playing Hide and Go-Seek, so I played also. I played Hide and Go-Seek for the next day or two. The last day, I played Sardines with my cabin group and some other kids. During one free time, I met someone with my name.
My favorite activity was the night hike. I liked the night hike because we did the solo hike. I also liked when Turkey and Mrs.Bates let us pick a colored marker and decide what color it was in the dark. Turkey wrote on my arm what color I thought it was. When I got back to the cabin, I had green written in blue on my arm. Katie was the only one that got it right.
My favorite trip was to the tide pools. I liked the tide pools because we found lots of animals. We found animals like porcelain crabs, a nudibranch, sea stars, sea anemones, a sea urchin, acorn barnacles, sea snails, limpets, and mussels. Turkey overturned a rock, and about 75 porcelain crabs came crawling out. I picked one up, and it was trying to crawl on the back of my hand so I quickly turned my hand over. The crab fell off my hand and landed on Jake’s neck. It started to crawl down Jake’s back.
We also found clay on the beach. Mr. Martinez didn’t let us take it back to Westminster Woods. I thought going to the tide pools was really cool and fun.
My favorite memory during Westminster Woods was on Tuesday when we met our naturalist Turkey. We played some name games so Turkey would know our names. Another naturalist went into the office and rolled up a chocolate Cliff Bar. He set it on a step and said he found scat. He also said that Turkey was a scat expert and the best way to find out what laid the scat, was to taste it. Turkey took a bite of it and asked if anyone else wanted to try it. A couple boys volunteered and said it tasted like chocolate. Turkey then admitted that it was a Cliff Bar. I thought that was funny and memorable.
I thought Westminster Woods was the best field trip that I’ve had so far in my life. It was very wet and wild. Turkey made our hikes, trips, and activities so fun and exciting. I think he was the best naturalist at Westminster Woods. If I went to Westminster Woods again, I would want Turkey for my naturalist. At the beginning of the trip, all the naturalists introduced themselves and told a story that happened to them. I would give Westminster Woods a five star rating for everything.
