The California Gold Rush
The California Gold Rush
The California gold rush was brutal. It was brutal because on the long and dangerous route to California many people died because of diseases, eating expired food, and low food supply. Some people went by land on a wagon train and left too early in the year, so their oxen died of starvation because there was no grass that early in the year because it was under snow. Then, the miners died because they were stranded on the prairie, and they would eventually run out of food and die. Some people came back poorer than when they left for California.
Minorities in California were not treated fairly. If a miner were black or non-American, he would not be treated fairly. They were not treated fairly because America thought the other countries were taking America’s gold. The minorities such as Chilenos, Chinese, and other cultures were forced to pay higher taxes than Americans, or leave California and go back home. The minorities had a big disadvantage because when they broke a camp’s law and they got hung, they didn’t know why because they most likely didn’t speak English.
The California Gold Rush was brutal and terrible for most miners who came to California for the gold rush. Many miners didn’t come back home from California because of how brutal, dangerous, and risky the California Gold Rush was.
