I sighed and said , “I don’t think it will affect my grade, because I did good on my other tests!” Even though I knew it wasn’t true.
As part of the writing unit on Personal Narratives, students are required to use dialogue in their stories. This involves dialogue tags (the use of a variety of tags and their places) and proper use of quotations marks and punctuation. This short text was the student’s first attempt at writing a dialogue with correct quotation marks and punctuation.

Deir-el-Qammar is a private area in the mountains for the American Community School. Our school goes there for camping and day fieldtrips. We do many fun activities like archery, walking on ropes, capture the flag, and many other tiring active things. Hiking is also one of the things we did. We hiked for hours! It was so fun!
One of the best parts of hiking is that the wild life is everywhere. In Beirut there is wild life, but you don’t see it. In Deir-el-Qammar you actually see it. And it’s beautiful. The animals, like lizards, snakes, moths, are everywhere. You also see wild boar footprints. Watch out were you step you might step on something you shouldn’t! Another really good thing is the nature. It is everywhere but it’s not just everywhere, it’s cool! The trees called umbrella pines are swirly, straight, ziggy, and wavy. They are over each other and under each other in each and every way. Plants in every shape and size and all different colors. Deir-el-Qammar is one of the very few places in Lebanon that has nature like that! The view is what makes hiking really fun! It is the best thing in a mountain hike! If you look down the clef and in to the vally.0 you will see all the cities below. It will as If all the towns and cities are squares. It is really cool.
So I say hiking is really fun. The wild life, cool nature, the view is beautiful. I will do it again for sure. So I say if you get a chance to do it too!

Hats are annoying the beach is the best the thing! The ocean, the sun, the swimming everything I perfect. But, what you didn’t think of is a hat! It’s the worst thing of all! Well, at least for me it is. Here are some reasons.
Hats can be trouble if they are too big. Hats well fly off and you will have to chase it .What happens if you lose it? They will also cover your eyes and you won’t and you won’t know what you’re doing. If you’re eating it will go in your food. So I wouldn’t suggest wearing a hat that is to big!
If you didn’t like your hat get a new one! If it’s the wrong color it will be that way forever. If it’s not the one you bought than it probably isn’t what you want. Because it’s probably going to last a long time!
What will you do when your mom makes you were a hat and the sun is beaming on you? This will happen, you go out to play soccer, and you have to were a hat, so you head doesn’t get burned. You’re running and chasing the ball as that happens your head gets hot. Then your mom gets mad and you can’t play anymore. After all of that you’re bored for the rest of the day.
So that’s, that hats are the worst! The whole to big thing, the hitting your friend, and they make your head hot. I think I’ve made my point hats are BAD. So, I say don’t were a hat to the beach or anywhere else.

My Pony
One day I was in the mountain with my mom and my brothers. We had one horse and two ponies. The horse’s name was Sannua and the first pony was black and white. Her name was Sussie and the second one was white and gold and her name was Pondor.
We took them in a garden in front of the house. They ate and played. My brother Nicolas rode Pondor. I wanted to try it too, so I went on Sussie and she did not like it, so she bumped and tromped and threw me off!
My foot got stuck onto the rope on her face and I said “Uh, oh”. Then she started to run! I was grabbing the grass to stop her, but it was no use. I said “Mommy help me”! I was so scared!
Finally my brother George took off my shoe. I crawled to my mom while I was crying. I saw my knee and it was filled with blood. We went to the house and washed it and put on a bandage.
The next day we went to Beirut and I felt better.
