We have been reading Poppy during read aloud and have been learning many things about our characters. Take some time to think about Mr. Ocax. (What do you think of him? Do you like him? Would you want him to be your friend? Do you think the other characters treat him the way they should? If you met him, what would you want to tel him?). Now write 3-5 sentences explaining your thoughts on Mr. Ocax.

What I like about Mr. Ocax is that he protects the mice from all sorts of danger, so that is why I like Mr. Ocax.
Mr. Ocax reminded me of my sister but she does not eat me and she protects me from all sorts of danger.
But the thing I don’t like about Mr. Ocax is that he eats the mice, and Mr. Ocax is mean.

Mr.Ocax is mean and he is jealous from Poppy because every time poppy seas Mr. Ocax something happens to Mr.Ocax. Whenever Poppy sees Mr.Ocax she develops bravely. Mr.Ocax is mean because he did not let them go to another house.

I would like to meet Mr. Ocax. I like Mr. Ocax he protects the mice from porcupines. But he does not let them move from place to place without asking him. He does not eat the mice I think he is kind.

Mr.Ocax is a silly owl and I am happy he is not my friend because he is mean and selfish. Because you have t call his name and ask for his permission to go out.

I don’t like Mr.Ocax because he thinks all the forest is his. But he also we protects them from porcupines and other creatures. He is smart because He can catch protected animals.

I find Mr. Ocax very silly and deceiving, the reason is that every time you want to leave your home you have to get out and ask him to leave, then once you reach him you’d realize that you already left your home. Then BAM you’re a dead animal.
The reason that I also find him deceiving because he threatens everybody. And he treats everybody like robots.

I think Mr. Ocax is a mean owl who is selfish and does not let the mice go anywhere without his permission. I would like him if he wasn’t that mean to Poppy and all the other mice. I wouldn’t be his friend because he is an aggressive owl and he is mean to everyone. I think they’re treating him right but he does not treat them right back. If I met him I would tell him be more kind to the mice and let them go wherever they want without needing his permission.

I think Mr.Ocaxis just lonely, not mean, I don’t think he has many nice things to do in hislife.
He also protects the mouse housefrom hedgehogs, weasels, and other animals.
I feel sorry for him, heneeds to eat!
If I met himI would tell himthat mice have feelings too, and to get over with it-don’t let themsuffer.

I would not like to his friend because he is mean and scary. He is despicable because he should let the animals go where they want without permission. He does a good job protecting the mice.

Mr. Ocax is a meanie. He thinks he’s the best. But if you do something wrong he would eat you. But he protects them by eating the porcupines. But I don’t get why he won’t let the mice move.

Mr. Ocax is a rude owl. He thinks he owns the land around him. I think he is rude because he does not let the animals cross a pacific line if they do he will eat them and he does not even own the land. I would not like to meet Mr. Ocax. I f I met Mr. Ocax I would tell him that what he is doing is wrong and to stop it. I think he should grow up and let the mice be free after all it is not his land.

I dislike mister Ocax because he eats mice. And I like mice. I also dislike him because he is very sneaky and cruel. He says that he protects the mice from porcupines but I think he’s lying. He also says that he’s king of the farm. The mice have to carry a white flag to go and meet him. He is very mean.

Mr. Ocax is mean because he just ate Rageweed and he was about to eat poppy too. I do not like Mr.Ocax because he is mean and I do not want to meet him. I do not like his character in the book he looks very mad and also the mice have to ask Mr. Ocax to go somewhere. He is going to bring a porcupine and a sharp one. Mr.Ocax is saving them but I think that he is not saving the mice.

I would like to meet Mr. Ocax because he protects mice from their enemies. He does not eat them and I think that he is kind to the mice. The mice have to take his permission to go on his valley or he will eat them. I think Mr. Ocax is kind to the other Owls and if I was an Owl Mr. Ocax will be my best friend.

The following is an example for your assignment about Mr. Ocax.
Poppy is a very interesting mouse. She seems to be very frightened and meek, but when she is in a difficult situation she seems to develop bravery. I admire this characteristic and hope that I would show similar strength in a challenge. I hope that she can stay brave when she meets Mr. Ocax again!
