Roman and German Essay

Article posted May 3, 2012 at 02:07 PM GMT • comment • Reads 429

I was asked to write a five paragraph essay. It was about comparing the two different cultures of the Roman and the Germans.

Social Studies Essay
Romans vs. Germans

Two different empires, two different types of lives. These people are the Romans and the Germans. They are different in many ways. The three paragraphs are going to be about law, lifestyle and their army. They have different laws, lifestyles and army. Here are some reasons why they are different in laws, lifestyles and warriors.

The Roman army and the German army were very different. The Roman army had tons of protection and Germans barely had any. The Roman army had standardized equipment. The Roman Army had swords, shoes, daggers, helmets, shields, and full body armor. The Germans only had a shield and a sword. Each German had different equipment none of them look the same, unlike the Romans all the equipment looks the same. Germans fought in small groups called clans. The Romans fought in legions of 5,000 warriors. These are some differences between the Roman and German army.

Roman and German had two different ideas for their laws. . The Roman laws were written on the 12 tablets. The Germans passed down the laws from adult to child. The Germans based their laws on their customs. The Romans didn’t. The Germans came up with their laws and the Roman Empire came up with all of their laws. The Roman Empire could change the laws at any time, but the German villages all had to agree with the new laws. These are some of the differences in laws between the Romans and the Germans.

The Roman lifestyle is different then the German lifestyle. For the Roman housing it depends if you’re rich or poor. If you were rich you lived in a house called a Domus. It had marble wall, windows, stonewalls and a furnace. The poor lived in dirty, small islands. Islands are like an apartment. They also lived in cities. The Germans lived in the countryside. They lived in thatched huts in two parts. One part for the humans and the other part for the animals. The animals heated the huts like the furnace heats the domus. These are some different lifestyles between the Romans and the Germans.

In conclusion the Germans and the Romans had very different civilizations. They had different battle styles, housing, army equipment and laws.
The German culture was centered on families and a simple lifestyle.
The Roman culture was centered on its empire and wealth. These are all the differences between the Roman and the German civilizations.

My First Blog

Article posted September 22, 2010 at 06:00 PM GMT • comment • Reads 119

In science class I have learned how to get to the Rye Junior High website. We are writing in journals about a chrysalis that is hanging at top of Mr. B's classroom. On September 22 their will be 12 hours of daylight and 12 hours of nighttime. I am excited to do the Africa project and the periodic tables. We have all ready been out in the garden and sketch flowers in the garden. I can't wait to learn more stuff in science class.  Mr. B showed us the scientific method. We have also been on a walk in the woods. Mr. B had asked us to write about the trees and we had to write what it felt, what we smelled, what we saw and what we heard. And the trees were just changing colors which I liked.

In PE we did a unit on team work. One of the things that we did was to stay on the mat while we closed it up. Another thing is without that we had two mats and we had to use them to get to the other side of the gym. And the last thing is that we had to swing on a rope without touching the ground and getting a bucket of balls without  any balls falling out. And now we are doing a unit on basketball.

In art class we had to trace scissors in are sketch book. We made folders to hold all of are stuff in it. We have sketched vegetables in my sketch book for extra credit. I made up a mutated  world. I thought it looked pretty cool, if say so myself.

In LA we have made peace Index cards for International peace day. We have also made hands and on them we wrote what we want to do in are future. We also had to do picture/writing, which is were we have a picture and we wrote about it. I am almost finished with it. It is called "Three Cups Of Tea".

Tech Ed and life skills are really fun. In life skills we made salsa and brochette. I loved making it because then we got to eat it. First, Mr. V  showed us all of the tools. Then he went over sammy safety. And now we are making pig pong paddles. I just got my handle on.

In math we went out in the garden and dug out potatoes from the ground. Then we weighted all of them. Some of them were so small that they weighted 1 gram. We just recently finished a unit called M&M's QC Check . After we finished counting them, we got to eat  them. Then we talked about the mean, median, and the mode.

In social studies we did a map about the continents. Now all the tests that we have had in spelling count a grade. Now we are doing a map on climate zone which is the degrees of certain line on the earth. Mrs Coyler has talked to us about Merrowvista. The SS book we studied has five themes of geography. Some of them are places, regions and movements.

In music we did drumming. Mrs Worth has taught us 1 rhythm on  them. We also learned a cup and a hand rhythm. We times us in musical notes . I think it is easy. The piano is a lot of fun because we get to fool around on it.
