Hi, in class we learned about commercial and recreational uses of resources. A commercial resource is used for profit or businesses, a recreational resource is used for non-profit or for fun, it is almost the opposite of commercial resources. For our assignment, we had to choose 3 B.C. resources and explain how they are used. The three I chose are: Oil;, Trees, and Gold.
First, oil. Oil is a B.C. resource because it is found in oil mines, some of which located in B.C. Oil is used commercially to make fuel for cars, plastic boxes, plastic bags, etc. Ways it can be used recreationally is to make fuel for cars, because cars are used for racing. Oil can also be used for fibreglass because, oil makes plastic, and fibreglass is a mixture of glass and plastic
The next resource is trees. Trees are B.C. resources because, they can be found in many places in B.C. It is both commercial, and recreational. It is commercial because it is made into: paper, firewood, sporting equipment, etc. Those things are all sold in stores from brands which makes them commercial. What makes trees recreational is that they can be turned into: hockey sticks, fishing rods, sports nets, etc. They are all used for fun which makes them recreational. Not to mention, we get a vital need from trees as well, oxygen.
My third, and final resource is gold. Gold is a B.C. resource because, god is found in gold mines, and there are several gold mines in B.C. Some ways gold can be used commercially are: made into jewellery, that is sold in stores, and it can be used for energy. A way it can be recreational is: worn at parties.
There is one more phase to this assignment. We had to describe 2 ways we should be managing and conserving a resource. The one I chose was salmon.
Some ways we can conserve salmon is to fish less and just let the population of salmon grow. If we knew more as to how important salmon can eventually be, I think we would be smarter as to how we manage salmon fishing in B.C. Another idea would be to set a limit of how much you can fish at a time. Thank you for reading my article.

I will explain the resources and why they were put in the columns they were placed in.
- Trees
I put paper and wood furniture in commercial uses because the paper you can sell to companies and those companies can sell that paper. I put the wood furniture there because they can use the wood from the trees to make the furniture and sell the furniture to companies and the companies can sell the furniture. I put sport equipment and origami paper in recreational uses because you can make sport equipment that requires making it out of wood. The origami paper because it is a kind of paper.
- Diamonds
I put jewelry in commercial uses because diamonds are really commonly used to make jewelry and they can sell them to companies and the companies can sell them. If you are really rich you can use diamonds in anyway of decorations as well.
- Oil
Oil is commonly used for fuel for planes and other things. Oil I also used for gasoline in cars. Do you ever wonder what plastic is made of? Well, would you ever think that oil made plastic? Well it does plastic is made of oil. Also, some furniture is made of oil to! I know, you are probably thinking that eww! You are sitting on oil but there are lots of other things beside oil that are put in to make the furniture so it is not really that gross. For recreational uses, I put sport equipment there because there is sport equipment that is made out of plastic and plastic is made out of oil!

OIL: commercial use: used as gas for transportation and turned into plastic for school chairs.
Recreational use: Turned into plastic for toy cars and Lego bricks
GOLD: Commercial use: Sold as Jewellery.
Recreational use: Turned into golden teeth and or gold watches
TREES: Commercial use: Made into wood and the wood is turned into desks.
Recreational use: Turned into paper and the paper is turned into paper airplanes.

GOLD
Gold can be used for recreational and commercial purposes. Some things that are made out of gold that are for recreational uses are: High quality wires for game consoles, etc., gold plates for decoratins and many more!
Some things that are made out of gold that we use for commercial uses arre; Jewelery, expensive statues, chandeliars and many more! 2 ways we can conserve gold is by keeping it away from thief s. And keeping it shiny.
SALMON FISH
Salmon is the only type of fish that is from BC. Salmon can NOT be used for recreational uses. However, it can be used for commercial uses. Yes, salmon is a food, people eat it, animals eat it and lots of other things eat it. But what we forget sometimes is that, before anything a fish is an ANIMAL, Which makes it a resource, a BC resource. Salmon is being used up too much in BC, which means very soon, we will be short of salmon.2 ways we can conserve a salmon is by simply putting it in the freezer. And eating it before the flies do.
APPLES
Apple is a fruit that most people in British Columbia enjoy eating. There is no specific type of apple that you can find in BC. But most of the apples that you buy anywhere in BC is grown right here in British Columbia. Apple is not used for recreational purposes, but for some reason, my friends think it is recreational because you can throw them at other people. But anyways, apple is used mostly as a commercial product for most people. You can make lots of things with apple. People buy apples a lot, so I guess that makes it a commercial product. 2 ways that you can conserve an apple is by simply eating it before it rots. And buy as many as you need, not more than that.
Definitions: Recreational: Something that is non-profitable, and/or used for games, sports, etc.
Commercial: Something that is profitable and/or used for business
Conserve: Protecting or preserving
Resource: An item or thing that has value,and/or can be harvested.
