Well this assignment was hard for me. I am not one to be put on the spot butI was still able to get it done. The hard part was making up my presentation in less than an hour for preparation. My mark shows how bad I am at being put on the spot. The poster that I made for this task was a good one, the guy who I presented it to thought it was really good and it made him laugh. The presentation was only a minute long because I could not really come up with too much more to say on this poster. Next time I am hoping for some more time to make a proper presentation. I am sure I will do better at it if I have the time I need to prepare myself. I know I’m not good with speaking in front of a lot of people but I hope to get passed that this year.

It is hard to do any oral presentation, specially when I dont practice or prepared myself for it. I believe that the best thing that I can do for next time, is to give myself more time to prapare and not wait last minute to practice. Also it is important to take the time to do any research and have enough information. I think having a plan writing and write all my ideas down, can help me. Practicing the presentation a couple of times, can help me not to speak fast and feel so nervous when it comes to public speaking.

In this assignment i aimed to be prepared. I took alot of time to make sure people we're able to my ideas very clearly by laying out a presenation that was easy to follow and i tried to speak as clear as possible. I was very happy with my techniques but i think i could have used a little more direction and a more defined purpose. i really do think the hardest part of the assignement was making a hard connection between my drawing and what i wanted to commucate.

For my representation assignment I used the story Burnt Toast. I was happy with my presentation of the story. It was about the fork in the road where the charicter has to pick which path to take. He can either take the easy path with the easy life or take the the rocky and hard path. I think I did a good job of presenting the story. I made good eye contact and answewred any questions that were asked. The part of the presentation assignment that I was not happy with was the visual representation. I rushed through that part and the 3rd grader stick figure artistry was crapy. Although anyone that seen it would understand what it was about.

In the assignment of Representatiion I did a stint on murder adn how I felt about it. I didn't care much for this assignment as I don't much care for presenting anything to anybody. Keeping that in mind I think I did a decent job and yes I believe my eye contact and the pace of speech was an issue but I really just wanted to get it over and done with to be totally honest. I was not enjoying the whole subject I was working on so that also played a factor on the outcome as well. It was kinda sprung on us to present and I don't like being put on the spot at all so that may have made a difference. I guess all around I just have a very hard time talking to new people and I don't care to share my work with others. If I was planninng on going into a line of work where talking in front of groups was a must maybe it would have been more helpful to me.

I did my Representation Assignment on the story Burnt Toast. I thought I would be able to come up with some idea's quickly as time was limited and it was one of the longer stories. Because it was one of the longer stories I also decided it would be easier to think of ideas to talk about in the presentation. I needed to prepare! A collage is what I was going to make as the visual part of the assignement so I joted down some ideas that related to the story. I also read over the story again to make sure I was not missing anything important to include in my collage or oral presentation and also wrote down what I planned on saying. I felt I did communicate my ideas clearly and effectively,as I was somehwhat prepared. I could have done better in the presentation if I was given more time, however I do realize that was not the idea of the assignment. I plan and hope to improve on my presentation skills by practice, I figure the more I try the easier it will get.

I have not yet done my oral presentation for the “Representation Assignment.” When the time comes to do my presentation I will be focussing on the several prepare points listed on the assignment. I know from past presentations, I lacked eye contact and was so nervous I spoke to fast. I will be paying close attention to those two details as well as the other pointers. I will most likely practice my presentation a couple times before presenting so I am comfortable explaining my work and will be glad to answer any question that may be asked regarding it.

I prepared for the presentation by first drawing it out and coming up with an idea of how to draw it out. Once I was finished that I collard it with my pensile and markers. While I was thinking of an idea of how to draw it I was also thinking about how I could present it. So that I could draw it according to how I was going to present it. Once I had drawn it all and collard it I thought about how I could present it clearly so I went over the speech in my mind a couple of times before presenting it. While I was presenting it I made sure that I used lots of eye contact, that I was explaining the message clearly, and that I was speaking clearly, and with a loud enough voice. I then summarised what I had explaind.

The representation assignment I did was on the side walk bleeding. I really like the short story because it is something that actually happens allot where young people get killed just for the colours they wear. I was not too happy with my presentation because I was just winging it and was not giving allot of detail about the story. Next time I would make notes for my presentation and practise it a couple of times.

For the representation assignment I just winged it, I didn’t really do any preparation. On that note, I really wasn’t all that pleased with my presentation portion of my assignment. I say this because I found myself not sure what to say, so I just talked about what I chose, where I got my information from, and at what point in the story I chose my visual idea from. I also found myself verbally stumbling as I talked (going “um…” a lot), looking for something else to say. In order to better prepare myself for the next assignment like this one, I guess I would put myself in the audience seat and try to think of questions to ask from that perspective in order to better communicate. I suppose I could even practice my verbal communication skills in order to be more comfortable presenting to others. I could also read other blogs to see how the other students prepared and use those techniques.

I hate presenting in front of people, I have no problem being the loud one, but when it comes to people focusing on me I freeze up stutter my words. The work I did was easy I had no trouble coming up with idea's and putting it all together, but when it came down to presenting, I lost all I had and planned on saying. Like I picked the story burnt toast because it was most interesting to me, then I gathered my ideas, re read the storey for more ideas, but messed it up when I had to present it. Its just something I have to work on more and over come the fear of talking in front of people.

For my representation assignment I drew a picture based on an idea expressed in the story, “On the sidewalk bleeding.” My picture illustrated a man breathing through an oxygen mask, surrounded by various medications. In the pictures he was throwing a pack of cigarettes in the trash can. He had realised the consequence of his choice of habit, and decided to discontinue it. It was obviously far too late to save himself from his self-destructive behaviour, the damage had already been done and he was now faced with suffering and eventual death. This was a similar moral to the class text I chose. The character regretted his chosen path and wished he could change his situation and lifestyle, unfortunately it was too late. This message really spoke to me personally because I have a family member who has died of lung cancer due to his years as a smoker. He quit smoking for ten years before he was diagnosed with the cancer. My illustration and verbal description was clear and I am over-all satisfied with the outcome.
- Kari.

When preparing for my oral presentation, I did the same things I do when I am about to get on stage and sing. I read it in my head a few times and certain parts I read out loud. For me personally, I always need to read things out loud to make sure I am not speaking too fast or too slow. I have a tendency to speak very quickly when nervous. I made sure I knew what I was presenting inside and out by not only thinking of what I was going to say, but thinking of how to explain myself if my partner had any questions about my ideas. I like to chat with the person I will be presenting too, as well, because I find it less awkward then, to make eye contact. Annunciating isn’t a problem for me because that is burnt into my head from singing as well. I was very happy with my presentation.

i prepared by writing out what i planned on talking about and than went through my paper and only picked out the important pieces of information that really needed to be told about my poster. I believe my ideas were communicated clearly and she understood what i was talking about. I probably could have went more into detail with explaining my thoughts and ideas but it never fails that during any presention whatever i have planned out to say never goes as planned and i rush. Overall i think i could of put in a few more pieces of information but i did okay. Next time i will try to slow down on my thoughts and try to prepare throughly so i don't get nervous and communicated better.

For my Representation Assignment, I first sat around for 10 minutes trying to figure out what we were doing and what I was going to do. I had to leave early that day so I felt a little rushed. I decided to draw an ad poster featuring the demon with the poison martini, (from the story Burnt Toast by Mack Reynolds) saying that you could win up to $100,000 with 13 to 1 odds.
I wasn't totally happy with my presentation; I should have done more research. For the next time, I will ask more questions about the assignment, and I would like to see more examples of what we are required to do.

I didn't do a whole lot to prepare for this presentation unfortunately. I was definatly not ready. But from here on out i would definatly make sure i provide myself enough time to get ready. It was kind of embarrassing standing up there and trying to throw something together, but hey. Live and learn

For the Representation Assignment I wrote down what I wanted to say, but while I presented it I wasn’t reading my paper I was just sort of remembering what I had written down. I don’t usually like presenting but it was easier to do it one on one instead of in front of the class. I think if we have to do something like this again, we would have more time to prepare, that would make it a lot easier. It’s hard to just think of what you want to say, when you have so many thoughts for the one assignment. I don’t think I did poorly though because my classmate gave me a pretty good mark, so I’m happy with that.
