The Pull of the Sea

Article posted December 3, 2010 at 02:12 PM GMT • comment • Reads 36

There is so much to do by the ocean especially on a sunny day in July. My favorite thing to do is play in the water. It is always moving and always feels busy. The waves are so refreshing as they was over you. It is also fun to rush underneath the crystallize surface of the water. When you are under the water it feels like you are in a hole different world. You can hardly here anything that is going on in the world above the divide. The currents are guiding you quickly along it mysterious secret roads. The undertow has swept you off you feet. When your oxygen finally runs out you are forced against you will to the surface. Then the voices return along with the heat. But even above the surface you still feel the pull of the sea.

Living in Space

Article posted November 5, 2010 at 07:13 PM GMT • comment • Reads 1033

Living in space sounds really cool. You float, and the outside world is dazzling with sparkling stars. It sounds really exciting, but is it not all fun and games. Think about food, water and what you would wear! There are no malls to shop at, no plumbing and no grocery store. How would you survive?

Well, most people think you would have to wear those bulky space suits all the time, but now you can wear what ever you want. Before they are in space you chose a couple clothes to wear in space. They often put the clothing on the ship before the astronauts arrive themselves on the ship. Most of the astronauts wear clothes from NASA company. There are seven different articles of clothing on the suits the astronuats wear in space so none of the toxic are gets in. The clothing is a fairly wide range except the space suits there is only one type.

The food situation in space is fairly logical. They do not take anything that spoils easily because some of there trips are very long and they could get sick if they eat bad food. For an example they eat tortillas instead of bread because they do not spoil as much. They used to eat liquid food out of tooth paste tubes, but now they have way more options.

Water would be the hardest thing to get. The only have a certain amount of water for a certain amount of time. There are so many possibilities of the water running out and so many possibilities of bad things that could happen if you ran out of water. People would get dehydrated and sick and lots of the food they bring would need water to be eatable.

There are up and downs to living in space. Some people like it and some people would hate it. Some people wish they could go and never do, but what you should really remember is living in space is not for everyone.

Space Thanks

Article posted November 3, 2010 at 03:24 PM GMT • comment • Reads 1064

The other day Mr.Gianforte came into our school and taught us about space. I was really excited because we are learning about space in our classroom and I find it interesting. He taught us a lot of new information that was very useful to use in class. One of the things he taught us was how scientists use the gravitational pull of other planet to slingshot the spaceships back to earth. This fact caught my eye because I really had no idea that the gravitational pull could slingshot a tiny little ship all the way back to earth. I found that really cool. Another thing I learned was that there are other stars with other mini planets circling the star just like our galaxy. I also learned more about planet X they actually found another planet but it is to small to be interfering Neptune's rotation. They think it is planet X. I learned so much from his lesson and I want to thank him for him teaching me so much I really enjoyed his lecture.

Modlue 1 Letter

Article posted November 3, 2010 at 02:55 PM GMT • comment • Reads 44

Dear Parents,

In math class we just finished learning about module 1. There were many things we learned about in module one, like how to make a frequency table. To learn how to make one we also learned experimental probability and theoretical probability. By doing this we pulled a product out of a bag a certain amount of times then we organized the data into a frequency table. We made our project colorful and interesting and hung them up in the hall.

That's not all we did in this module, we also learned about patterns. This part of class changed my outlook on patterns. This is not just the patterns you do in kindergarden with pattern blocks the is way more complicated . It is more like what order it goes up in and what way it goes up. There are so many different way to look at a pattern and it is not easy to cover them all, but when you finish the worksheet you really feel accomplished.

There is so much I have learned in this module that it is extremly hard to cover in a single writing. The system was simple and easy to learn and relate to. I did some of these math topics in sixth grade but little did I know that there was so much more to them. This topic was interesting and fun to learn, I hope all the math modules are like this one.
