Stock Market Report

For the past couple of months, the seventh grade has been working with stocks. Each student picked three stocks of their choice, and monitored and kept track of how they have been doing.

I chose Apple inc., Randgold Resources , and GO INDUSTRY DOVE BID for my companies because they all seemed like trustworthy stable companies that could possibly make a lot of money for me. I chose Apple inc. because it has a good reputation, it is always coming out with new jaw dropping technologies, and is overall a top selling company that never fails. The second company I chose was Randgold Resources. I chose this company because it sells gold, and gold is usually high-selling and worth a lot of money. The third and final company that I chose was GO INDUSTRY DOVE BID. The reason why I chose this company was because when I checked the sales chart, it was going up at a steady pace.

Even though all of my companies sounded good, I still would change some things. The first thing that I would change would be that I should have bought more shares in GO INDUSTRY DOVE BID. Go INDUSTRY DOVE BID made a lot of money as it climbed the charts. The second thing I would have to change would be to buy more shares in Apple Inc. because it was a good money maker and never had any dips in the rankings. The third thing I would have to change would be to buy less stocks of Randgold Resources, it didn't really make as much money as I was hoping it would and to go with that statement, the prices lowered/dropped.

The advice that I would give to other people who are interested in investing in stock would be to always read the stock's summary. You should always make sure that you know your business. Make sure it is not a scam and understand what it is selling before you buy. You want to know what your stocks are about so you know what you're investing in. Secondly, you always want to make sure that you are checking up on your stocks daily to see how they are doing. And thirdly, make sure your company makes good money and is not a loser.

From all of this I can conclude that the seventh grade has learned much about the stock market and I, personally, am intrigued with this business of money. I am also glad that I had this opportunity to see a little but of how my nation runs.

Antarctica Flag

Article posted March 18, 2011 at 06:54 PM GMT • comment • Reads 946

This flag is made for Antarctica. I drew a sun, since it is the sunniest place in the world. I also drew a star because it can be nightime for a long time there. I also drew a snowman saying "brrr," since it the coldest place in the world. I left the backround white to show that Antarctica has snow and ice basically covering all of it.

THE EYE

Article posted December 17, 2010 at 07:12 PM GMT • comment • Reads 712

The eye has many parts to it that make it function right and without any of them we would not be able to see right or even see at all. Some parts of the eye are the the iris which is a muscle that makes the pupil bigger to let more light into the eye and make it smaller to let not as much light in.

The clear jelly that gives the shape of your eyeball is called the vitreous humorous, it needs to be clear because if it was not then you would be blind because the light that the pupil would let in would not get through to the retina.

LIVING IN SPACE

Article posted November 5, 2010 at 07:13 PM GMT • comment • Reads 945

LIVING IN SPACE

Once the astronauts lift off of Earth, they are on their own. They have to maintain the shuttle and do regular things like eating in space, working in space, and overall living in space. To do these things you would think that it would be easy but with new challenges like weightlessness, you would be surprised by what they have to do to do normal stuff.

The astronauts have to do chores such as cooking, cleaning, and even taking the trash out. They live in one very, tiny spot and that spot is for sleeping, eating, exercising, working, and taking good care of their personal hygiene. When they sleep they have to be strapped into basically a sleeping bag. They sleep that way so they will not float around and bump anything that might cause malfunction in the shuttle. That would not be good......... at all.

all the members of flight STS 133 they each have one pair of shorts, one t-shirt for excersing, one pair of running shoes, one pair of work pants and a work t-shirt. Each of the seven members were that and that only, they have to make those clothes last for ten days. During launch and entry the crew wears helmets, communications caps, pressure garment, anti-exposure, anti-gravity suit, gloves, and boots. Crew clothes are made for typically men, but sometimes women. It is made for about 95% of men and 5% for women.

In the space shuttle they have an oven to heat their foods such as macaroni, but for other foods like brownies or fruit they do not have to prepare it. The astronaut food used to be in bags and not very tasty but now they can cook things and have better and more fulfilling meals. There are no refeirigerators in the shuttle so they have to make sure nothing they bring will spoil fast. Astronauts have to eat three meals a day because the nutrisionists have to make sure the astronauts are always well and fully energized. Astronauts can choose from fruits, nuts, peanut butter, chicken, beef, seafood, candy, brownies, coffee, tea, orange juice, fruit punches and lemonade. Astronauts can only have certaqin amount of calorie intake per day though. A small woman would have to take 1,900 calories a day while a large man would have to take in 3,200 calories a day.

When you are in space you still have the same hygiene needs as you would on Earth, the astronauts still have to take showers, brush their teeth, brush their hair, shave, and go to the bathroom. When they take showers they use rinsless soaps because they cannot use water sinse it would just float around. Each of the astronauts have their own hygiene box with their tooth brush, hair comb, and their rinseless shampoo, which was originally invented for hospital patients who could not move. To go to the bathroom the astronauts have to sit on the toilet and strap their legs and thieghs in leg restraints so they won;t float around. The toilet acts like a vacuum and sucks all the bad gross stuff away into a water waste tank.

Skiing

Whenever I get off of the chairlift, I get a knot of fear in my stomach that I am going to fall off of the lift and plunge into the freezing deathbed.

But as soon as I lift my skis, I glide on the powdered snow.

It is a sunny day and it makes the snow glitter like crystals.

As early spring comes so do the birds.

A little bluejay chirps and makes the trees shake.

A slow but steady shard of snow gracefully falls,

I dodge and swiftly make my way to the other side of the lonesome trail.

I swerve from left to right with no noise but the sound of my shifting skis.

As I gaze at the winter mural,

I notice that the blue of the sky enhances the the purple-gray mountains,

and the tips of spruce trees bunch up to make patches of green blobs.

The brisk air caresses my exposed face,

and gently cools me from the heat of the lodge.

As I reach the end I pull my skis together close and speed up to finish the adventure.

Math Letter Module 1

Article posted November 2, 2010 at 07:02 PM GMT • comment • Reads 822

Dear Mother,

My class just finished module 1 in our textbooks. Since it was the beginning of the year it was basically easy stuff and reviews but we still learned. Now that we are done with module 1 we can start to learn more advanced math. In module 1 there were six sections. Section 1 was about data displays, section 2 was about sequences and exponents, and in section 3 we learned about probability. Section 4 was about problem solving and section 5 and 6 were about problem solving and order of operations.

In section 1 we learned about tallying data, and bar and line graphs. When you tally data you are supposed to gather the data you want and tally how many times it comes up. A bar graph is a graph that is used to display data that falls into distinct categories. A line graph is graph that shows how data changes over time. That is what we learned in section 1 in module 1.

In section 2 we learned about modeling sequences and exponents, squares, and cubes. A sequence is an ordered list of numbers or objects called terms. We learned about term numbers and symbols also. Exponents show a pattern of repeated multiplication. Exponents make it simpler to write out as well. Instead of writing out 3.3.3.3 you could just write 34 or three to the fourth power.

In section 3 we were taught about probability and theoretical probability. Probability is experiments that predict the outcome of an event. Probability is also a number from 0 to 1 that tells you how likely something will happen.

Section 4 was about problem solving. The textbook gave us four steps to problem solving. Step 1: understand the problem. Step 2: Make a Plan. Step 3: Carry out the plan. Step 4: look back, or check out work. Those were all very helpful to me, especially when I got stuck on a difficult math equation. This was definitely an important chapter to me.

Section 5 in the textbook taught the class about evaluating solutions and making connections. Section 6 was about the order of operations. The order of operations helps when you do long mathematical equations. It lets you break down long equations into sections to make it smaller and easier to figure out since it is better laid out.

Since we started school that is what we have been learning for the first trimester.

From,

 Kid
