Final Stock Project Report

Annie Fitzpatrick

Investing in stocks is a great way to make money if you are a smart investor. You have to do plenty of research to choose the right stocks. This year in math class we had to do a project on stocks. We pretended that we had invested in three stocks and then tracked them every week. Every Friday we got our computers out and went to www.yahoofinance.com

to check Thursday's last trade. After 24 weeks we made a final project on this unit. This essay will explain to you the three stocks I invested in and how they did. The three companies that I invested in were Hershey’s, Nike and Disney. Over all these three companies did relatively well apart from Nike, which went down 2.13 dollars. Hershey’s went up the most. I made 654 dollars with this company. Walt Disney went up almost 5 dollars and I made 401.60 dollars with this company.

There isn’t a lot that I would change about my stocks but there are a few things I would have done differently. I would have sold Nike sooner if I could have because it went up and then dropped dramatically. I would have bought more of Hershey’s and less of Disney because this stock did better than Disney. I made almost 1000 dollars so over all I am pretty happy with my stocks

I learned a lot during this project. I really didn’t know anything thing about stocks and investing before. If I had to give advice to other people investing in stocks I would say make sure you don’t lose you stock portfolio and keep track of your gains and losses like we did. Our spreadsheets were very helpful because we formatted them to calculate our gains and losses each week. I would also say to invest in stocks that are going up and sell them at their peek.

This project started in November and ended in May. On average during that time I made money with Nike, Disney, and Hershey’s. If I were to do this again I would Sell Nike earlier but we weren’t allowed to. With Hershey’s I made money. I think this is because we had this project during Christmas, Valentines Day, and Easter when people buy a lot of chocolate. Nike went down but I don’t know why and Disney went up because we had this project during February and April Vacation when people go to Disney World. Over all I enjoyed doing this project and tracking my Stocks.

We made these flags because Antarctica does not have a flag so we drew what we with thought it should look like. I drew because penguin have a habitat in Antarctica and only Antarctica. I drew the penguin on the edge of the ice because all wildlife lives on the edge

Something I do Well

Article posted January 13, 2011 at 05:51 PM GMT • comment • Reads 875

One thing that I think I do really well is running long distance. In spring when I do track and field I run the 1600 which is a mile. I think it is more fun to do than sprints. Sometimes I do very well. Even more than track I enjoy cross-country. It is my favorite after school activity. Once in a race I came in 1st. I am good at running long distance because I enjoy it very much.

Hiding in the art room

Article posted January 11, 2011 at 07:13 PM GMT • comment • Reads 1044

The assignment 'hiding in the art room' was very different from most art projects I have done. We had to take pictures of ourselves  and then take a picture of the place we wanted to hide. We uploaded them to our computers and put the pictures of ourselves on the background and edited.

The Eye

Article posted December 20, 2010 at 07:23 PM GMT • comment • Reads 712

I am going to tell you about the parts of the eye. The black part in the middle in the is the pupil. It is a hole that lets in light. The blue part around the is the iris. It is a muscle that opens and closes the pupil. The white part around the iris is the schlera and its job is to block light into the eye. The capillaries are little red veins that give oxygen to the schlera. The lids, lashes, and brows all protect the eye.

Living in Space

Article posted November 9, 2010 at 02:44 PM GMT • comment • Reads 1029

Living in a zero gravity world, millions of miles away from your own planet must be a really exiting but challenging adventure. In a space shuttle, even the most basic things like taking a shower and sleeping can become very complicated. I did some research to find out what it must be like to float around in a small cramped area, going 7 times as fast a bullet travels.

The clothes that you were in a space shuttle can be similar to the ones you would wear on Earth since you only have to wear a space suit if you are outside the spacecraft. One of the differences of clothes inside a space shuttle is that they don't change them nearly as much as the normal person would on Earth. This is partly because they don't go outside so they can't get very dirty. It is also partly because it is almost impossible to do laundry in space. The typical astronaut has one pair of shorts and one T-shirt for every three days. When the astronauts do go outside of the space shuttle they will wear space suits. Space suits allow them to breath in no atmospheres. If an astronaut were to wear a space suit on Earth they would weigh about 400 pounds but since they are in space, they weigh nothing.
The second thing you should know about living in space, is what they eat. Most people think that space food would be disgusting but they eat the same kind of food we eat on Earth. For example, a typical breakfast in space would consist of either granola or pears. A typical lunch might consist of chicken, mac + cheese, rice or nuts. For dinner an astronaut might eat shrimp, steak, mac + cheese or fruit. For drinks astronauts would have water, apple cider or coffee or tea. Water is stored in 90-pound containers that look like duffle bags. The Astronauts have to recycle water from the humidity in the air. When you’re in space, it is important to ration and recycle.

Sleeping In space is also challenging for the astronauts. They have to attach themselves to a wall, seat, or bunk bed so they don’t float around in their sleep. The astronauts can also sleep in the pilot’s seat. When you’re in space, it doesn’t matter what angle you sleep at so you can fall asleep standing up just as easily as if you were lying down as long as the astronauts are strapped to something. They also have to sleep in sleeping bags.

Living in space sounds hard to get used to. Living in space for a long amount of time is also hard on your body when you return to Earth. This is because you don’t have to even walk so the astronauts’ muscles get weak. They have to exercise on a treadmill so that this doesn’t happen. Imagine how weird it would be just to be able to float around in mid air. This is why Living in space must be a really exiting but challenging adventure.

LA writing

Article posted November 3, 2010 at 03:24 PM GMT • comment • Reads 959

Over the summer, at my lake house, I went sailing in our sail boat called the sun-fish. I was going alone for the first time and that day it happened to be very windy. I got in the sun-fish and started sailing to the middle of the lake. The wind was pushing the boat faster and faster and before i knew it i was almost on the far side of the lake. I turned and headed for the lily pads. On my way I almost capsized a few times because of the huge strong winds blowing in the sail. Luckily. i managed to right the sun-fish when it tipped because I had capsized it before.
I sailed around the lily pad area and turned back for the lake house. But the boat kept going slower and slower because I was headed up wind. The sun-fish started drifting toward the rocks, far away from my lake house. I didn't know what to do because with the strong winds, my boat would crash to the rocks in a matter of seconds.
That was when I saw the paddle hidden under a storage part of the sun-fish. I let out the sail and started frantically paddling away from the rocks. then I was able to turn my boat away from the wind and make it back to my lake house.

Other Worlds

Article posted November 2, 2010 at 07:28 PM GMT • comment • Reads 1089

Mr. Gianforte came in and talked to the class about space and other worlds. There was a slide show to help us understand. Mr.Gianforte taught us about how planets rotate around the earth. For some planets, it takes hundreds of years to go around the sun once. For Earth it only takes one year. This is because the planets that are further away from the sun have a bigger circle to go around.

Giaforte also told us about lightyears too. He talked all about different ways of measuring in astronomy. For example astronomical units (AUs)is the distance between the Earth and Sun.

Mr. Gianforte taught us about dwarf planets. I never knew that there were so many dwarf planets. Pluto is also a dwarf planet.

Overall I learned so much about space from Mr. Gianforte.
