Title: Who Decides Where You Go? (10/15/10)
Description:

One of the most famous children's authors in literature was Theodore Geisel, more commonly known as Dr. Seuss. Although his books, "The Cat in the Hat", "Green Eggs and Ham", Horton Hears A Who" and others were written for children, much of what he wrote can certainly be applied to readers of all ages. For your next blogging assignment, you are to read the following passage from his book, "Oh, the Places You'll Go!" and post your interpretation of what he was trying to tell his readers and reflect on what this means to you. It is expected that your post be well thought out and meaningful. Additionally, attention to capitalization, punctuation and grammar will be graded. Your post is due prior to your next class.

"You have brains in your head.

You have feet in your shoes.

You can steer yourself any direction you choose.

You're on your own.

And you know what you know.

And you are the guy

Who'll decide where you go."

-- Dr. Seuss, Oh, the Places You'll Go!

This passage means that you are your own person. You have your own brain so you can decide what to do. You have your own feet to go were you want. Your also smart enough to make the right decisions. It also means when you come to a tough decision, you know enough about it to know weather or not to do it, but in the end you will be he person to decide.
I think this means that no one can make you do anything you don't want to. Because you have your own brain so you can think for yourself. So you will be the person to make decisions for yourself without anyone else making you.

To me this poem is refering to freedom. Being one person, being independant. When it say you have brains in your head, meaning your not stupid you know what to do in a sticky situation. You have feet in your shoes. You can go anywhere, you can walk out of something that you arnt't meant to be in. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. That to me says, you have a right to say no. If you don't know what I mean, I mean that if your steering yourself in the wrong direction you have the ability to steer yourself the other way you can say no you don't wanna be in that direction.
"And you know what you know", no one can tell you they no more than you. I know what I know No one can change that, no one can tell me I know less then them." you are the guy who will decide where you will go". No one can tell you where to go if you it is against our will. I think this poem to me is explaining ones rights and abilities in their life. Their decisions that they are aloud to make on there own without having help or without being told what to do. In order to grow up you need to experience these things on your own and be exposed to it.

I think the author means that nobody can control where you go because you have your own brain that makes those choices for you, instead of letting other people make those choices. You are the person that decides where you will go. This is what I think the author means.

I read the poem and I think that Dr. Seuss was trying to get across to people that you decide what happens with your life based on what decisions you make. If you make good a decision, its probably because you thought it out well, and it will probably lead to a reward. Whatever you decide in life, everything has a consequence. Only you can make those decisions though, no one else can.

Dr. Seuss is well known for his stunning and whimsical children books. I remember when I was reading his books as a child I was almost in another world. When I grew up, I almost forgot his menial books, all dusty and stored up in my closet. Then today, I read a quote from “Oh, the Places You'll Go!” and realized Dr. Seuss had something else in some of his books.

I believe Dr. Seuss had a deeper meaning in the quote I read earlier. Each line meant something more than it seemed to be. I think what Dr. Seuss was trying to tell us was that we are in control of our future. It is up to us to choose where we go in life. Also in the quote was the line “You're on your own.” This is very true especially in today’s society. The only person you can count on is yourself; if you put your life into someone else’s hands, you will fail. It’s you and the world. You only have your feet to lead you and your brain to help you.

This quote means a lot to me in a personal way. I am a sophomore getting ready to go and pick colleges and continue my future. I only have me, and I’ll decide where I’ll go. This quote speaks on many levels for many other people, but I feel it means more to someone going through what Dr. Seuss explained. As an older individual going back and reading a quote from a book I read years ago as a child, I can say I’ll never think of Dr. Seuss in the same childish way again.

I think that what he is trying to tell the readers is that you control who you are. You decide for yourself where you want to go when you get older. What you want to do when you get older. Who you want to be with and why you do the things you do. You're on your own and you have to do things by yourself. Succeeding or failing is entirly up to you.

What this means to me is follow your dreams and live life the way you want to live it not how anyone else wants to live it. You decide how to live and what your dreams are. Anything is possible if you just put your mind to it, and in the end only you can decide where you'll go.

I think that in Dr. suess is trying to say that we all have brains and feet but its what you do with it that matters. You can be what ever you want and go places you want so be the best you can be. If you want to be a doctor be a doctor if you wanna be a cop be one And that all I think he was trying to say.

-- Dr. Seuss, Oh, the Places You'll Go!

I think that Dr. Suess's saying from his book "Oh the places you'll go", means that no one can control who you really are. You are the only one who can control your actions. You can’t always rely on everyone else. You are who you are, and nobody can change that. You are very intelligent, and you can get very far when you’re intelligent. Once your own your on, you can do whatever you ant, and you can make it very far.

I think that Dr. Seuss is trying to say that you should choose what you choose and not have people choose for you.
Living a life that's not controlled by you is a very boring life.
What would you do if you couldn't go the places you wanted to go or do the things you wanted to go?

This is my interpretation on the book "Oh, the Places You'll Go!" by Theodore Geisel, or as more commonly known Dr. Seuss. He writes “You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes.” He’s saying that you have everything you need to go where you want to go. In the next lines “You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You’re on your own,” I interpret it to mean that you are out on your own; you have many options that you can do with your life. There are several paths you can choose; the easy path or the hard path. “And you know what you know. And you are the guy, Who’ll decide where you go.” I take it to mean that you know what you want to do in life; don’t let someone tell you what to do or who to be. You will decide where you want to go in life.

Article posted October 19, 2010 at 03:15 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 753

I think that from this title that he is pretty much saying your the one who decides where you go in life and you decide how to live it. I like how he uses similes as-You have feet in your shoes and You have brains in your heads. I also like when he says-And you know what you know and you are the guy who’ll decide where you’ll go. I think that Dr.Seus is implying that we are all very smart and capable of handling our own lives and in which paths we should take throughout are lifetimes. This is also a way to inspire people to take control of their lives and use their knowledge to do so.

I think that he is trying to tell his audience that you can do anything you’d like to. If you like something then go for it and try to do it as good as you can. He is saying that we are capable of doing it, we are smart enough.
To me what it means that you decide what you are going to do in you’re life and what you’re not going to do. For example you decide to listen to the teacher and do assignments then you will get a good grade. A bad grade is not anyone fault but yours you decided not to do that. When we are older we will decide if we will go to college, get a job, and buy a house, even little things we will decide like what to eat or to even go somewhere. So no one hold us back our mistakes are ours and when we do well that ours too.

“Oh, the Places You’ll Go!” I believe Dr. Seuss is trying to tell his readers that no matter what gets in your way, if you put your mind to it you can go anywhere in live you please. “You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose.” Seuss is stating that you have the capability as a person to make your own choices and you can succeed in life if you believe in your self and put your mind to it. When I read this I think of my future, college, a career, and where I want to go in life. This passage is telling me that I can get there, that I have the ability to achieve something in life. “You’re on your own and you know what you know. You are the guy who’ll decide where you’ll go.” I think that Seuss is trying to tell us that we are our own person and only we know what’s best for us, and we are the only ones that can decide where we go in life.

Article posted October 20, 2010 at 11:52 AM GMT0 • comment • Reads 751

I think what Dr. Seuss was telling us in “Oh, the Places You’ll Go!” was that it is up to each one of us to control our own destiny. We are given the brains to learn and the reasoning to make the right decision about what we want to do in our life. We have the ability to know ourselves and what we know and like to do. We might go a lot of places along the way but we are the one who decides just where that will be.

For me this means that I have the power and the intelligence to decide what I want to do in my life. It is up to me to want something better for myself in the future. I should take what I know and love and use that to help me make a decision about what I want to do in life.

I think what Dr. Seuss was trying to tell his readers that you yourself can choose where you can go. With the lines "You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose.". I think on what this means to me is that anyone can pick their own place to go. If their was one place I would be able to go, it would be every location on Earth (except Antarctica and the Arctic.). I think that anyone can have their own special place to go to. The line saying that you can steer yourself in any direction you choose was the most meaningful line in the passage, because I find it true.

My interpretation of this is he is telling us that no one can make our choices for us. It is up to us to decide our future not our parents’ job. We make our own choices. We make the choices about where we go and what we do with our lives.
What this means to me is that only we can make choices about our life and what we do with our life. If others made our choices for us we would have no freedom to be what we want to be. That is what this means to me.

I think that it's a way of encouraging people to go places, but in more than just a physical sense. Dr.Seuss is saying that you have everything you need to succeed. You have the knowledge to think things through properly. Life is what you make it and it's possible to go great places. All you have to do is use those feet and brains and get going! We need to take this guy's advice more often.

The passage for "Oh the Places You'll Go" means a few things to me. The first line in the passage means that you are smart enough to do just about anything. The second line means your able to walk anywhere without wasting gas by using a car. The third line means you can be just as smart as you want to be, and that you are able to go to collage if you really wanted to. The fourth line means that you learn what you want to learn. I have no clue what the fifth line really means. And the last line doesn't really mean anything to me. But other then that, that is what all of the lines mean to me.

You know what you know means: you are smart, you have the knowledge to survive in the world, and you are the guy to get things done.

The message that the passage gives me is that I got from the passage was stay in school I am smart. The part in the passage that I really liked was you can steer yourself in any direction you choose. That meant that I can steer myself in the direction that I choose in life.

"You have brains in your head.

You have feet in your shoes.

You can steer yourself any direction you choose.

You're on your own.

And you know what you know.

And you are the guy

Who'll decide where you go."

-- Dr. Seuss, Oh, the Places You'll Go!

Oh the places you'll go! Maybe. I believe that in this story Dr. Suess is nicely trying to imply that if you don't push yourself to get places, you'll never get anywhere in life. You can have all the dreams in the world, but if you have no ambition your practically useless. But also I think he's saying that once you get going, dont let anybody tell you how to live. If you've got a dream, follow it. An amazing man once said: "I'm the one that has to die when it's time for me to die, so let me live my life, the way I want to." He is implying the same thing that Dr.Suess was. Push yourself to go places, and never let anybody tell you how to live. If you'r not being yourself, who are you trying to be?

In Dr.Seuss's book "Oh, the places you'll go" it says: "You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose. You're on your own. And you know what you know. And you are the guy Who'll decide where you go." My interpretation of the point he is trying to get across is that you can do anything you want. This quote to me means you control what you do and where you go so if you want to create something you can create it like for example new technology you can create it if you want to so pretty much you can do anything you want, its your decision.

I think this article is talking about the path we can all take in our lives. We are all given the tools we needs to make our lives turn out the way we want. We just need to choose to use these tools wisely. We have the ability to make our own choices and ultimately control our own destiny. No one makes decisions for us. We are responsible for the choices that we make. He might also be trying to say that there are many different paths we could take in our lives and we need to think carefully about choosing the right one. To me he is trying to say that we each need to be our own person and not rely on other people for everything. Overall, I agree with what he is writing about and that we do need to think twice before making any decisions because it may not always be the right one. Even the smallest decision can affect the outcome of your life!

You can do anything you want to do if you put your mind to it. I think it mostly means that you can do anything you want to do a long as you put your mind to it.

KL -- Who decides where you go?

I think that the poem is trying to say that only you can decide how successful you are going to be in life. Everyone can try and help to prepare you for your road ahead, but only you can make the decision on whether or not you will be successful. The poem is saying that you have your feet, your mind, and all of the tools that you need to do whatever you choose to do. Anyone can tell you what, how, and when to do something, but only you can make yourself actually succeed.
