Amazing Science

Article posted July 9, 2011 at 11:45 AM GMT0 • comment (4) • Reads 9920

We have been busy carrying out a range of facinating science experiments in class. We have also learnt how to do our own scientific investigations. We had to follow a set format and include things like an aim, hypothesis, materials, method, variables, data collected using a log book, photos, graphs/tables and a conclusion stating what we discovered. We all entered the school science fair and shared our projects using display boards or power points. We think they all looked amazing and we had lots of fun completing them. Special congratulations to Jessie Heke and Olivia Wilson who were placed second overall. Their topic was, 'How safe is it to swim in Lake Rotorua?'. After testing the water in a number of locations they had collected some startling data! Ask them to share what they discovered.

Kia Kaha

We have had great fun during Kia Kaha with Constable Neil. We have learnt about different types of bullying and clever strategies we can use if we are ever bullied. We have taken part in role plays and really enjoyed Constable Neil's humour and 'acting'. Enjoy our photos and ask us about the cool things we have learnt.

Super Skittles

Article posted June 25, 2011 at 11:15 AM GMT0 • comment (4) • Reads 1412

We had fun carrying out a simple experiment using five different coloured skittle lollies as part of our Science topic. We put the skittles in a bowl, covered them with cold water and observed what happened. We had to write a hypothesis first. We tried the experiment again using boiling water. We timed the changes too. We took some photos to show you what happened at each stage. The results were so cool. Have a try yourself at home. You will be amazed!

Making God's Eyes

Article posted June 25, 2011 at 09:48 AM GMT0 • comment (2) • Reads 445

We had to write a procedure to explain how to make God's Eyes. They are made by children in South America on their birthdays. They use a different colour to show each year of their age. We had great fun creating our own. They look very colourful hanging up in our room.

Terrific Turtles

We have had a special visitor in our class this week. His name is 'Flippy'. He is a red eared turtle and he belongs to Bryanna. We have taken some cute photos of him and we are having fun finding out all sorts of interesting facts about him. Do you know how to tell how old a turtle is? Can you tell the difference between a male or female turtle? Do you know what they like to eat? Visit our room to find out more. We have added some photos below. Isn't he cute... We will share our very cool turtle art work with you too.

Rotoma Camp 2011

Article posted June 2, 2011 at 06:33 AM GMT0 • comment (1) • Reads 631

Puarenga Learing Centre spent a whole week on camp at Lake Rotoma in Term 1. We were there to learn survival skills and find out more about the plants and animals in the bush. Our activities included kayaking, team building, making bivouacs, raft building, science, cooking and orienteering. We slept in tents and had to use port-a-loos. We showered in the lake! We all had a blast!! Here are some photos of us having FUN. Please look for our fantastic camp recounts on our individual pages.
