NOVEMBER LETTER

Article posted December 2, 2010 at 07:09 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 182

November was a great month in fifth grade. Once again, we accomplished a lot, did some neat activities, and we learned many new things. My three favorite activities were end of the quarter celebration, thinking cap quiz bowl, and disaster projects. I hope you will be amazed as you read about them.
First, I would like to write about the end of the quarter celebration.
It is the end of the quarter celebration it was sports day I am wearing my signed wild jersey and my friends loved it. and we are watching the wizard of oz. and me and Taylor both feel asleep and when I woke up I feel right back asleep Zzzzzzzz.
Next, I will explain about how I did thinking cap quiz bowl. In R.T.I and we are deciding who gets to do the thinking cap quiz bowl. I was the first person picked and fourteen others. Macy and Sydney were the leaders 1 of the questions was 111,111,111 times 111,111,111 =? We got five practice points for that question
Finally, I would like to tell you about our disaster projects. My favorite part of the disaster projects was making our poster because. Mackenzie and I were so creative with it we had a yellow and green frog shaking from the vibration. And I learned that an earthquake is caused by two plates pushing together for a very long time and when it releases it causes a large amount of vibration.

I hope you understand why November was such an incredible month for me in fifth grade. This month was outstanding, but I can’t wait to see what December brings. Fifth grade is UNBELIEVEABLE!

earthquakes

Earthquakes
Did you know that earthquakes take decades to happen……… now you know and you will learn a lot more first how we picked earthquakes than everyone’s strengths than the tools and finally how it happens

When Mr. McCartney assigned us this project I wanted to do hurricanes. But Noah, Tyler, Mackenzie, and Amber all wanted to do tornados. But Petey still wanted to do earthquakes and we were the last group to pick what we wanted so thank you petey for picking earthquakes so that’s what we got.
I learned everyone’s strengths within the first few days, like my strengths are to be able to find things quick on the internet. Mackenzie and amber both have strengths in get large amount of info out of books. Tyler, Noah, and Petey all liked technology similar to power points, and videos.
Tools there are many like a seismograph, a Ritchter scale and tools to rebuild. First the seismograph it measures how long and hard the earthquake is. The ritchter scale measures the magnitude of that earthquake like the largest earthquake was a 9.1. Finally tools used to rebuild such as concrete, tar, wood frames, jackhammers, and a lot more.

A Cause of an earthquake is 2 plates pushing together for decades. As the presser releases the force from plate to plate goes from no one know about it to everyone know about it.

And there’s an earthquake of info for you. Hope you got something out of it. Because I did I got way more I can’t even put it all on paper.

Soil layers

Top soil plants like flowers and grass live in top soil
Topsoil is sometimes called the organic layer
A thick layer keeps soil cool and not dry
Subsoil
Subsoil a mix of minerals and humus. This layer is the middle layer.
This layer has the most nutrients.

Bedrock it is formed before the soil above it
The only way you can see it is ether erosion or an earthquake
Bed rock is made of solid rock

my october letter

Article posted November 3, 2010 at 06:27 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 133

October was an excellent month in fifth grade. We accomplished a lot, did some neat activities, and we learned many new things. My three favorite activities were Fort Snelling, River Bend Nature Center, and Pizza Pete’s Fundraiser. I hope you will be amazed as you read about them.

First, I would like to write about Fort Snelling.
When our group got to see the round tower it was fantastic. When I got up there the view was incredible. I learned that the windows were made to pertect them .Than after a little bit we saw the fort snelling hospital and I was the volunteer they had 4 different types. A pucker, a pooper a blade device to attract blood, and a hot piece of metal to make blisters. Finally we saw all the jobs a woman would have a top officer’s helper or a hospital cleaner or a laundress.

Next, I will explain about how I did River Bend Nature Center.
When our group got there we got to go on a nature hunt. There were about 25 different things like a 100 year old tree or a dock. We also got t have a chance to see a water fall it didn’t have much water thou we learned sometimes there is no water In the water fall at times. The last thing we did was things were we learned about erosion types.

Finally, I would like to tell you about _the pizza Pete fundraiser.
The pizza Pete fundraiser is fun every year the assembly is so cool because he calls on one of us to hold all the prizes we could win. But his code is to always ask parents for permission I learned that if you don’t things can go bad. The last thing is to make sure you put you want prizes not cash.

I hope you understand why October was such a spectacular month for me in fifth grade. This month was fascinating, but I can’t wait to see what November brings. Fifth grade is UNBELIEVEABLE!
