November Free Write
Richard P.
To Play or Not To Play?
People at Elk Lake finally have a chance to play football. A lot of my friends are going to join. They also want me to join, too, but I really don’t know if I would want to play football for our schools’ rival, the Montrose Meteors.
I would really like to play football because it’s something I have always wanted to do. All my friends think that I should play. For my November Free Write I’m going to talk about the pros and cons about joining football.
First, the pros of joining football would be getting to hang out with all my friends. Another good thing is it would be a great stress release for me. The last pro would be that I would get to finally do something that I have been wanting to do for a long time.
Some of the cons of joining meteor football would be that you could get seriously injured and be out for the whole season. Another con would be if you come from elk lake the Montrose meteors are our rival school. Would you want to play football for your rival school?
In conclusion do you want to join meteor football? What are your thoughts on joining meteor football? The question still remains To Play? Or not To Play?

Sherlock Holmes Grew as a Detective
The American people are fascinated by solving crimes like murder. There are so many TV shows that give people a chance to watch crimes be solved. Just to name a few there are CSI Miami, CSI New York and Criminal Minds. There is also the Mentalist. Even before TV people would read crime books for entertainment. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle wrote The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes. Sherlock Holmes grew as a detective in the “Musgrave Ritual” by putting himself in other people’s shoes and putting the case together piece by piece. I know that Sherlock Holmes grew as a detective because I have looked over the story and read the story enough to come to this conclusion.
One way I think that Sherlock Holmes grew as a detective is in the story, The Musgrave Ritual, is because Sherlock Holmes gained a lot of experience as a detective by putting himself in other people’s shoes. Sherlock said, “Why should this servant be so anxious to master the old formula? Evidently because he saw something which had escaped all those generations of country squires” (Doyle 11). Sherlock had put himself in Brunton’s shoes to see his motive of going after the Musgrave Ritual. He also had to put himself in Rachel Howells shoes to figure out why Brunton wanted Rachel Howells to help him when they were no longer friends.
In addition, Sherlock put himself in Rachel’s shoes when she and Brunton were in the cellar getting the hidden jewels. Rachel helped Brunton, but was then in control of his life as they went underground. Sherlock said, “What smoldering fire of vengeance has suddenly sprung into flame in this passionate Celtic woman’s soul when she saw the man who had wronged her—wronged her perhaps far more than we suspected---in her power” (Doyle 19). Sherlock found out that if there was a time that Rachel was going to hurt Brunton, she would have done it then.
Some may say that Sherlock Holmes may not have grown as a detective in the story because they would say that Musgrave basically gave Sherlock Holmes all his information to solve the case. I would argue that Sherlock Holmes still grew as a detective because he still solved the case no one else could ever figure out.
The second way I think Sherlock Holmes gained a lot of experience is by piecing all the parts of the case together to solve the case. When Sherlock Holmes is talking to Watson, he says, “You can imagine, Watson, with what eagerness I listened to this extraordinary sequence of events, and endeavored to piece them together, and to devise some common thread upon which they might all hang” (Doyle 9). Basically, Sherlock is saying that he had to put all of the pieces of the mystery together in order to solve it. This was the beginning of the solution of the Musgrave Ritual.
In conclusion, I think that Sherlock Holmes grew as a detective when he put himself in other people’s shoes and pieced all the clues of the case together. He put himself in Brunton’s shoes to find the motive to Brunton’s murder. He put himself in Rachel Howells shoes to figure out why she even helped him in the first place. Most of all Sherlock Holmes was the only detective to even ever solve the old case of the Musgrave Ritual. Sherlock Holmes grew as a detective just by solving the case because he solved this case before he became famous. He also gained a good reputation for solving the riddle of Musgrave. If it was not for Sherlock Holmes, maybe we wouldn’t have all the popular crime solving shows like CSI, Criminal Minds and The Mentalist.

I think that the theme of the djinn would have to be that if something sounds to good to be true then it probably is.
In the story the djinn tells the mother that if she goes to this place and never comes back or speaks her kids will be alive and well.
Or in real life a friend could say, "Oh you can do or get something and it's really easy." When you go to do it, you find out that it is not easy at all.

For my visual representation of me I first put my MLA heading. After that we had to pick a meaningful quote to me so I picked Albert Einstein's quote of the definition of insanity which is “Insanity doing something over and over again and expecting different results.” I like this quote because it's very true. The next thing I had to get was a book that I read so I picked "The Most Dangerous Game" by Richard Connell. I picked this book because its about a man who crashes his ship and swims to a nearby island. He meets a man who likes to hunt so he invites the man to his house. The hunter says that he wants to hunt an animal that has great intelligence and sets the man free. The hunter starts trying to hunt the man at the end the man lives and tricks the hunter. I liked this book because it has great irony in it. In conclusion this is a representation of me.

Exciting April
For my April free write I am going to write about why the month of April is exciting. The month of Aril is such an exciting month because of what is in April there are two things in April that make it an exciting month. One is April fools day and the other is that its Shakespeare’s birth day in April.
The reason why I like April is mostly because of April fool’s day. That is always a really fun day in April. There are always so many fun things you can do on April fool’s day. Like develop really funny jokes on your friends or really funny pranks on your parents. Like putting a rubber band around the sink hose and telling one of your parents that the water isn’t working so when they go to check it sprays water all over them. There are a lot of fun things you can do for April fools day.
Another cool fact about April is that in this month William Shakespeare was born on April 26 1564. In a town called Warwickshire England. He wrote such books of poetry as Romeo and Juliet. The book I read in English class. In his career he wrote a lot. He wrote 37 plays and 154 sonnets in his career. He actually wrote about 1.5 plays a year on average. He was also an actor to he acted in a lot of his own plays he wrote. Shakespeare was actually the first writer to use a compound word in his text. Did you know that in his plays or books put all together he makes over 600 references to birds.

Around the World2
For our English class we had to look up and research a country that we know nothing about. For my country, I choose Brazil. Were you ever curious about the facts of Brazil?
1. The population of Brazil is 190 million people ("Brazil." U.S).
2. They speak Portuguese ("Brazil." U.S).
3. Their type of government is federal republic ("Brazil." U.S).
4. Brazil gained their independence on September 7, 1822 ("Brazil." U.S).
5. The annual population growth is about 1.2 a year ("Brazil." U.S).
6. The life expectancy in Brazil is 73.3 yrs of age in the year 2010 ("Brazil." U.S).
7. They farm soybeans, coffee, cocoa, sugar cane, rice, livestock, corn, oranges, cotton and tobacco ("Brazil." U.S).
8. There are seventy water dams planned for the Amazon River region ("Brazil." Wikipedia).
9. Brazil is just slightly smaller than the U.S.A. ("CIA”).
I have learned a lot more about Brazil from researching it. Some of the things I learned I couldn’t even believe. Research Brazil sometime when you have a chance you will be surprised what you find.

I play guitar. I have four different guitars: a Martin, Fender, Eco, and a First Act. I even taught myself how to play guitar.
My favorite guitar out of all four guitars I have is the Eco. The reason I like that guitar the best is because it’s a twelve string acoustic.
I got my first guitar ever at Wal-Mart it was the First Act. I got my fender guitar online a few months after. My friend Josh gave me the martin guitar it’s from the late 40s early 50s. My friend Josh also gave me the Eco guitar too.
I usually play every day when I get home from school. I can play a lot of country music. I can also play rock, bluegrass and the blues. I play with my friend Josh a lot.
In the summer I go to bluegrass festivals and play there. Some of the festivals are close and some are a little far. Most of the bluegrass festivals I go to are small. It’s really fun to go to the festivals because you get to meet people that have played guitar for a really long amount of time in their life. They know a lot about being a good guitar player. Almost every time I go to one of the festivals. I meet at least a few more people. I learn something new I never knew before every time I go to a new festival.

Bad Gym Experiences
Have you ever learned a lesson? Did you know that you are supposed to bring your gym clothes to gym? What are you supposed to bring for gym class? What are you supposed to do if you don’t have your gym clothes for class?
It started off a very good day because I was well rested had all my homework done and I was ready for school. Then I was waiting for the bus. I got on the bus. While I was on the bus I had the feeling I was forgetting something. I could not participate in gym because I had forgotten my gym clothes. That was the last time I forgot my gym clothes.
Then I had remembered what I was supposed to do. I was supposed to check my schedule to see what I had for classes that day. Then I looked at my schedule and I found out that I had to have gym on that day and I hadn’t brought my gym clothes. I knew that I was going to be in trouble for not bringing them to school. I was thinking the worst. I know what its like to be in after school detention and I really didn’t want to be in after school detention again.
In the end I had to stop and realize. That I was not participating in gym class that day. Because I had forgot my gym clothes at home. So I was thinking to myself what I was going to do for gym that day. I thought about it all the way till third period. Then I realized that I was just going to have to get a referral for being unprepared. I went to Mr. Cains office and he gave me a warning for that day. I found out that forgetting things is a very bad feeling.
When you are running late to get on the bus, I found out that you can forget things a lot easier when you are late and rushing. Then when you get up at the right time and check your schedule often.
I think that I could have learned a lot of lessons in this story. But the two lessons I actually learned. Was that I should check my schedule more often. The other lesson I learned was that I should always keep a backup pair of gym clothes in my locker just in case I forget mine for that day so I would be able to participate in gym.
These are the consequences in order when you forget your gym clothes. First you have to walk into Mr. Cains office and say that you are unprepared for gym class then he will if its your first time he will only give you a warning. If it is your second or third time you get a referral. When you get a referral you have to go see Mr. Weisgold the principle and tell him what happened and why you got sent down to his office. Then if you tell him it was for gym class being unprepared for you second or third time he will give you after school detention.
In conclusion, I learned a lot of new lessons. I can learn from this lesson so I don’t make the same mistakes that I made by not checking my schedule. If I remember to bring my gym clothes I won’t have to deal with getting any more referrals or having to go to after school detention because of not participating in gym cause I didn’t have my gym clothes Or not bringing my gym clothes when I have gym. So I learned my lesson to always check my schedule to make sure to bring gym clothes on the days when I have gym class.
