Museum of Science and Industry

We recently went to the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago.
My favorite exhibit was the Natural Disaters. When you walked in you could see a demonstration of a tornado made of steam. It was amazing. On the second floor there was my favorite thing...
The Wind Tunnels=http://=http:// I loved them. When you go inside the machine blows wind over 80 mph (miles per hour) on you. It also takes pictures of you while the wind is blowing.

Greenbrair Writing

Article posted April 25, 2011 at 08:18 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 321

Ring! Ring! There’s the school bell. I can’t wait to start school. Greenbrair is a great school.

The classrooms always have the materials you need, like pencils. It is important to always have at least two sharp pencils with you because if you are in the middle of a test and your pencil breaks then you will always have one ready. It is bad for your pencil to break in the middle of a test because then you can’t finish your test which will affect your grade. I feel bad for schools, for example, in Africa. Schools in Africa have one pencil for the whole semester which means if their pencil breaks they won’t get a new one so they won’t get their work done which will make them get a bad grade and if they get a bad grade they will get in trouble with their teacher and their parents which will get them grounded, maybe worse. Also if they do bad in school they will get into a bad college which will effect their future.

By reading my article now you understand that Greenbriar is a great school. I can’t wait to see you here.

Immigration Story: The Markowitz Family

Article posted April 25, 2011 at 08:13 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 383

We read about a family called the Markowitz family. They lived in the pale of settlement. Their family includes Jacob, Mama, Sasha, Emma and Nathan. I feel bad for them because when they lived in Russia they were poor but still had some money but when they came to America they couldn't just trade their old money for new money in an ATM, now their money was useless so they had no money and back then it was hard for immigrants to get a good job.

Spring Break

Article posted April 4, 2011 at 08:11 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 510

For Spring Break I went to Florida. It was so hot there!!! Our hotel was on the beach so we went to the beach almost every day. One time when we were at the beach my sister found a shell in the water but then we saw a claw stick out. We didn't know what kind of creature it was but it was really creepy. Every time we went to the beach we saw like five dolphins in the water but hey were to far away to see close up. We only saw their fins but it was still an amazing sight.
We also went to the pool pretty much twice a day, maybe more. Our pool was HUGE and it went to five feet. But the best part was the waterfall in the middle of the pool. Whenever you went behind it it sounded like a million drums playing right next to your ear. It also had a volleyball court in the deep end. It was really hard for me to stand while we played at they volleyball court because the water was to deep for me to stand in.
The drive back was really long but I think it was worth it.

Night of the Twisters

Article posted March 24, 2011 at 05:55 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 408

We finished reading Night of the Twisters by Ivy Ruckman. It takes place in Grand Island, Nebraska. It is told by Dan Hatch. The story begins with Dan saying that he wishes that you could be informed when it will be a black letter day or a red letter day. He says that because a horrible tornado strikes later in the book and causes devastation.

The Penderwicks on Gardam Street

Article posted March 16, 2011 at 07:07 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 364

I am reading The Penderwicks on Gardam Street by Jeanne Birdshall. It is about a family (The Penderwicks) that includes Rosalind, Skye, Jane, Batty and Mr. Penderwick. Mrs. Penderwick sadly died a few weeks after Batty was born because of cancer. Now Aunt Claire gives Mr. Penderwick a letter that Mrs. Penderwick wrote the day before she died. It says, " Since I am almost about to die, I predict that you will be lonely so I want you to talk to Aunt Claire about starting to date some other women." All the sisters are shocked by this but Rosalind thinks that this is horrible. Now the sisters made a plan to help there dad called the Save-Daddy Plan.
I wonder what will happen next.

This week we had a lot of fun.
This week everybody was so excited, because we finished or I.S.A.T's. Now we don't have to be stressful.
In science lab we made homemade barometers. We cut off the part that you blow into off a balloon and streched it on the top of a jar. Then we taped a straw on the middle of the balloon. Then we made some recorder that was cool.
This week was awesome.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

Article posted March 2, 2011 at 07:20 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 336

I just finished reading Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. It is the sixth book in the series. It is about Harry Potter going back to Hogwarts for his sixth year. But this year is a little different. First Harry has a new teacher ,who used to be a teacher but retired. But usually there is a new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher but this year Professor Snape took that job and Harry's new teacher Professor Slugorn is the Potions teacher. Harry gets a potions book that is very unique, it is the Half-Blood Princes book.
I would recommend this book for people who have one read the other books, two for people who like mystery and some sad and dramatic parts.

Week in Review (Feb. 17, 2011)

Article posted February 17, 2011 at 05:10 PM GMT0 • comment (1) • Reads 166

This week we did a lot of fun activities. One of them was we had an Art Adventure. The Art Adventure was about origami. I made four birds, a sail boat and an airplane. It was so fun because I never knew how to make any of those.
This week we also finished our math lab. It was about displacement. We used graduated cylinders and filled them up with with water to find the displacement of some marbles that we dropped in. It was so cool!
Also we finished our colonial studies. We made a keynote for it then attached a voice thread to it. I liked recording the voice thread because we got to wear these really cool headphones that have a microphone attached to it like plane attendants.
Last we got to tell stories to our buddies. It was so fun. My buddies were really polite while i was telling it to them. I loved telling to them!
I wonder what we will do next week.

We recently got a visit from meteorologist Ginger Zee (a meteorologist is a scientist who predicts weather). She told us about weather. I learned about a lot. My favorite part of what she told us was that they find out information about the atmosphere by sending a weather balloon that has a anemometer, barometer, thermometer and some other instruments into the air and it floats up into the atmosphere and it sends information back down to Earth. Also I liked when she showed us a picture of an instrument that is like a giant soccer ball on sticks predicts weather. It was so cool to find out all that information.

All chapters Frindle

Article posted February 8, 2011 at 07:00 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 513

I have finished the book Frindle. It is about a boy named Nick. Nick is very original. He is original because he always has ideas and try's to make the idea become something big. In this book his idea is to stop saying "pen" and instead say "Frindle".But Mrs. Granger, a mean english teacher with hawk like eyes, try's to stop him by, for example, sending the principal to Nick's house to talk to his parents and to give detention to whoever uses the word. Bad for her though Nick and his friends fight back. Once Nick goes to college he gets a package from Mrs. Granger that has a dictionary and a note. Nick opens the dictionary and right there is his word that he made up when he was in fifth grade, Frindle. I recommend this book for people who like books that have a lot of detail and also are funny.

Chapters 9-11 Frindle

Article posted January 28, 2011 at 07:11 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 465

I am on chapter 12 of Frindle. Nick has made the whole school start using his word frindle instead of the word pen. Mrs.Granger starts too get very mad so then she complains to Mrs.Chatham, the principal. So Mrs.Chatham go's to Nick's house to talk to Mr. and Mrs.Allen. The principal is trying very hard to prove her point but Nick's family is too good for her. I predict that Nick will keep trying to make a real word. I infer that whenever Nick has an idea he try's real hard to make it very big.

I am reading the book Frindle. Frindle is about a boy named Nick who has a lot of ideas. One day Nick is walking down the street with his friend Janet Fisk and she sees a gold ballpoint pen. Nick then has an idea. While he is thinking he bumps into Janet then picks up her pen she dropped and said,"Sorry heres your Frindle." So now he got some of his friends together to promise that they will always call a pen Frindle. That is how far I have got. I predict that Nick will make the whole school go along with him. I also predict that even the teachers will say Frindle.

Hello everyone. I am here to tell you about my friend Bill Apple. He lived alone in a small apartment on 24th street. I was his only friend. While we were both around our mid-twentys he got a new job, his last one he got fired because his boss was well bossy. A man about fourty asked him and he said his name was Frank Pomu. His new job was to help build a new building down the street. Frank said that his salary would be one hundred dollars a week and that he would work for three years. That would be thousand maybe millions of dollars! Bill would be rich! He starts his job next friday. Bill asks me too come with him, he is kind of nervous. So we walk down 24th street and turn left on Brownwood Avenue. Then we see it. The building was almost 500 feet tall no joke! And it wasn't any normal building it was the building we heard about on the news, Bill was the first construction worker on the Empire State Building!

The Week in Review

Article posted January 21, 2011 at 08:01 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 512

This week we each got assigned a colony. Some people got paired up though since there were only thirteen U.S.A colonies. I am paired up with Andy and we have the North Carolina Colony. When we finished gathering our information we got to go onto Google Earth and made a polygon for North Carolina. If you don't know what a polygon is it is when you highlight something on Google Earth and type information in then when you click where you highlight, and if you pressed ok when you finished typing the information then on the place you made your polygon your information would show up. It looks really good when you are finished. I can't wait till next week.

The Week In Review

Article posted January 14, 2011 at 08:20 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 514

This week we did a lot of fun activities. On Monday we started our colony unit. We watched a video on Jamestown while taking notes. Jamestown was the first permanent United States settlement. We also read some articles on Jamestown, and how it was very hard for the new settlers to survive. For example the water in the James river was dirty so the settlers didn't have water to drink that was healthy for them. Also the food was scarce so they traded with the
Native Americans for food. Sometimes the settlers and Native Americans had feasts with each other because the Native Americans were very good at catching wild animals (the have been in America for thousands of years).
On Friday Mr. Edwards started reading us a book about the settlers called A Lion to Guard Us by Clyde Robert Bulla. It is about a girl named Amanda's father go's on a boat traveling to Jamestown. The rest of her family and her will be going to Jamestown also once her mother isn't ill anymore. Right now Amanda, Her little brother and sister and her mom are living in a nearby house in England. I can't wait to find out what happens next.
I am looking forward to continue our colony unit next week.

Holiday Writing!!!

Article posted January 10, 2011 at 08:05 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 487

Christmas!!!

It’s Christmas time. The best time of the year! I can’t wait to visit my grandparents house.

For Christmas we always go to my grandparents house. When we arrive we say hi to our grandma and grandpa then go to their office in the back of the house. In the office we go on the computer to a website called SantaTracker.com that shows where santa is and where he has been. If you click on the present that marks where he has been sometimes they will have a realistic animation video of him in Egypt for example and the computer will tell you in the video that he is in “Egypt”. I am always so excited when santa gets near North America because that means he’ll be here soon. Then we minimize the website and go back into the kitchen.

For dinner we always have really good food. I eat as much as I can until I am stuffed. Dessert is even better. My grandma makes lots of little sweets. But my favorites are her lemon bars I could eat them all! When your take the first lemony bite your taste buds start to tingle and you feel like you could eat the lemon bars all day.

Finally after we check the computer once more and everyone is done with their dinner it’s time for the best part, the presents! When we open our presents we take turns wearing the santa hat, while we rip open the smooth wrapping paper off the present. We wear the santa hat every year because we always feel happy when we see someone

Article posted January 4, 2011 at 05:43 PM GMT0 • comment (1) • Reads 399

I just finished reading Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. It is the fourth book in the series. It is about Harry's school, Hogwarts having a Triwizard competition instead of having Qudditch, a sport that wizards play. The age restriction for entering the competition is 17 and older but someone put Harry's name in the Goblet of Fire and Harry thinks that they did that to hurt him. He thinks that because rumors are going around that Lord Voldemort is returning because the Dark Sign, that shows that Voldemort is back was in the air at The World Cup (qudditch). Harry succeeds at all of the courses but on the third course win he arrived at the Triwizard cup at the end of the maze he got transported to a cemetery where Voldemort is waiting for him. You can find out what else happens when you read the book.

Winter Break

Article posted January 3, 2011 at 08:02 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 477

I had so much fun over winter break! But my favorite event was when we drove to Tennesse to visit my mom's best friend Kelly, her husband who's name is also Kelly and her son John. My sister Anna and I played Wii with John a lot while we were there. But the only game we played was Just Dance 2. It was so much much fun!!! We had to do so funny and akward dances. John won most of the time but Anna won like five and I won about three. For lunch we had really good BBQ pork sandwiches, coleslaw, mashed potatoes and for desert we had strawberry Jello. We also played on Anna and my ipad's until dinner. For dinner we had really good turkey, salad, bread and butter and potatoe salad. After dinner John, Anna and I made a train track with Thomas the Train train set. It was fun because we haven't played with trains for a long time. Before bed John and I played a game of Battleship. I was really sad when we left Tennesse, but I still had the rest of winter break to have fun with.

The Castle

"Oh, my we have to get started now!"said Gramama ."Yes we do!" My grandmother and I just arrived at the Grand High Witches castle at the top of the hill in downtown Norway. She gentley placed me on the ground and knocked on the old wooden door. "Good luck my dear." Whispered my grandma before sprinting slowly back into the village below. A tall old lady answered," Hello? Who's there." She snapped in a wicked voice. I ran straight into the castle, clutching the Delayed Action Mouse maker that Gramama and I made in my paws. After about a minute of running I arrived at a large, old wooden door that said inbig bold letters GRAND HIGH KITCHEN. Using all my strength I knocked on the door and to my suprise an old crusty woman with an apron that said I HEART EVIL slowly opened the door and answered,"Who is disterbing me while I prepare dinner?"I quickly ran into the kitchen. The kitchen was an huge room with shelves lini the walls. In the middle room was an counter with giant bowls with food on it. Perfect. And to make it better there was a bunch of boxes on the side of it that I could climb up like stairs. I ran up them so fast I almost fell off the boxes. Once I reached the top I popped open the top of the bottle and poured all of it into the bowls. I ran through a crack in the kitchen door without being seen. When I got to the exit I whispered," Gramama?" and she kicked open the door and I saw she was holding almost one hundred cats in her arms. I shrieked," Gramama! You sure got a lot of cats there." I ran behind her legs. " Okay let them go on three. One. Two.THREE!!! She dropped all the cats on the ground and they ran into the castle. When we were walking down the hill to the village I could hear the witches hrieks. I laughed.

I had so much fun trick or treating on Halloween. I got a bunch of candy. For Halloween I was a scary cheerleader. My favorite type of candy is Reeses. I saw a lot of my friends and people I knew. I went trick or treating with two of my friends, my mom and their moms. We went to one house that had loud scary music and sounds that we could hear two blocks away. After my sisters and I are done trick or treating, we go home and make two piles. One that has all of the candy we want to keep and one that has all the candy that we don't want. Then we trade all of the candy that we don't want for the others ones candy that they do not want. Then we have candy that we want. I love Halloween.

I am almost done reading Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief. It is an amazing book. It is pretty much about a boy named Percy Jackson finding out he is a half blood and going on a quest to find a lighting bolt that they think is in the underworld at Hade's (one of the gods) castle to stop a fight between Zeus, the god of the sky, and Posiedon, the god of the sea. I hope he gets the bolt and brings peace back to Mount Olympus where the gods are.
