Our great feild trip

Article posted May 2, 2011 at 08:26 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 809

We just went to the museim of science and indrestry . It was really fun. We first went to the weather area. There we went in this wind thing. You step inside and the wind will go up to 80 miles past you. That was really fun. There was also a color room iin the weather area. You step inside and can change the colors around. Your shirt, pants and even eyes will change color. We also saw fake lightning there and there was something like a cloud/tornato that was spining around in the area. Our main purpose of being there was learning about simple machines and we had our lesson on simple machines after lunch. It was so cool and we learned about the different types of machines. After our simple machine lesson we went around to see baby chicks, what it might be like in the fuchure, a wispering place where you could wisper in the room and you could still hear each other loud and clear, and we went to one other place too but I can't remember what it was called. I had a really fun time at the museim.

A wonderful day

Article posted April 27, 2011 at 05:59 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 481

It was Saturday my favorite day of the week! Also, on Saturday we have a very consistent breakfast. Pancakes and juice. Dad always makes the best pancakes, and the texture of the pancakes always makes me feel happy. I walked downstairs. Every step i took made me hungrier. As i reached the bottom step I was surprised. It was an extravaganza down here. There was a huge layered cake on the counter. Mom was dancing to music and Dad was making pancakes. How could I forget? Lily's birthday. The morning would start off with pancakes, then we would go on a jaunt around the block. After lunch we would go on the zoo expedition followed by Lily's party. Lily would have 50 kids over. She was so amiable. I, on the other hand, am super vivacious as well as indomitable. After the party we would go to see Peter Pan. It would be a super day. The doorbell rang. " I'll get it!!" I shouted. I ran to the door and opened it. " Grandma, Grandpa!" I cried. They stepped inside and I lad them to the kitchen. They sat down and talked to Mom. Just then Lily walked in. She was wearing a bright blue dress with flowers in her hair. " Happy birthday!" we shouted. " Morning to you too!" smiled Lily.

The day passed quickly and before I knew it, it was bed time. I didn't want to go to sleep yet though so after everyone was sleeping I set up a tent in the backyard. The stars were shining brightly above me. Today had been the best day ever.

Greenbriar is the best

Article posted April 25, 2011 at 08:18 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 447

Right now I want you to imagine yourself at a school called Greenbriar. I want you to do this because it’s the best school ever. Surrounded by books and math supplies, Greenbriar school easily helps you learn a lot. Let me stop babbling and tell you why Greenbriar is better than any other school in the world.

The first reason Greenbriar is so good is it has drinkable water. Some schools in other countries have water, but it is polluted or just bad to drink. If children happen to drink the water it will make them sick or if they don’t drink the water at all they could get dehydrated. With either of these things- getting sick from the water or getting dehydrated they would have to stay home from school and miss their learning. Then what could happen is the children miss their learning, and not be as smart- then when they grow up they wouldn’t get good jobs. As you see you can drink the water at Greenbriar so you are very safe from getting dehydrated or sick.

Another reason Greenbriar is so good is that Greenbriar has very good supplies. If a pencil breaks-just get a new one. But in some places it doesn’t work that way. In some places you get only one pencil for the whole year. If one breaks you can’t get another one and most learning is writing your ideas down. If I didn’t have a pencil everything would get so jumbled up. I would need a pencil so I could write down my spelling words in a spelling test. Also I would need a pencil for a vocab test, math, and more. What in the world would I do if I didn’t have a pencil? As you see pencils can be really important and Greenbriar is filled with them.

So if you have been imagining correctly you can see how good Greenbriar is. Now are you ready to come to Greenbriar and be treated better than you sever imagined?

Our life in America

Article posted April 25, 2011 at 08:16 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 456

In class we just wrote a story that was called Our life in America. It was about a family called the Markowitz family. They immigrated from Russia and life was hard for them. In America they lived in a tenement crowded with people and the dad worked in a factory. They kept their Jewish custom as well as being American and learning American custom. When the family came to America the name Markowitz was shortened to Marks. I think it must be real hard to immigrate. Imagine being in a boat for weeks, cramped in a tiny space. You might get sick. It's also scary. There might be storms too. Then once you get to America you go through inspection. One person is sick and they get sent back to where you came from you and your family could get separated. But if you do make it through inspection you still are getting poked throughout your body. From the moment you walk off the boat you are being watched. That must be hard! America does give a better life for people but it is hard. You might not be able to find work and for some immigrants work means long hard hours. You get tired. Lots of immigrants work at sweatshops. Can you imagine work being so hard you need to go on strike? If you can imagine that, try imagining life being so bad that you leave your country. I can't imagine that. Well I got to go now, bye!

Nicky's wonderful adventure

Article posted March 25, 2011 at 05:23 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 455

Nicky loved candy. It seemed as if she ate it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. She also had it for in-between snacks too. It was as if candy was her only possession. Don’t get the wrong idea though. Other than what she ate she was a normal kid. Most surprising of all was that she always went to the dentist and she had no cavities. Nicky’s mother was a dentist and her father was a doctor so they required her to eat well so she didn’t get sick or get bad teeth, but since she was perfectly healthy and she had no cavities they saw no reason why she couldn’t have so much candy. This story takes place on a Sunday afternoon. She just had, had a meal of chocolate and she decided to take a walk. When she got outside something very strange happened. When she closed the door to her house she found herself in the woods. She was very scared but she decided she would venture out into the woods. She felt enchanted, like she was under a spell. She scarcely heard the crunching of the leafs behind her and she realized a little bit to late. When she looked up she saw a huge jaguar looking at her with scrutinizing eyes.Nicky had very keen eyes and noticed that the jaguar had blood trickling down it’s side. She screamed though and ran away. After a while she found a tree and it was very plentiful with apples. She ate one and in a second she was back on her street and the enchanted feeling was all gone. She thought it was a good time for a trip to the candy store and so she elucidated to her mom that she wanted to got to the candy store. Her mom agreed. When she was at the candy store she was in a quandary whether to to get jolly ranchers or more chocolate. She decided to get jolly ranchers and she left the store. As she walked home she felt very happy for some reason.

Blizzards

Article posted March 22, 2011 at 07:18 PM GMT0 • comment (1) • Reads 452

In school we are learning about weather. We each got a type of weather to study and I got blizzards! They are amazing. Until I started to research this type of weather I never really knew what blizzards were. Ok yeah, I knew it was a bad storm with lots and lots of snow. But I didn't know all the scientific things that made up a blizzard. Did you know winds in a blizzard can get up to 35 miles per hour or more. Also blizzards can go on for more than 3 hours. That can be scary because there could be lots of white outs pluss family's could be separated. Some are at work others on the road. Trees might fall down and so could power lines. I dislike blizzards because the are very cold but I like them because you get out of school, you get to play in the snow and after a long day in the snow you can get some hot chocolate. Well I need to go now but I hope you learned something about blizzards! Have fun in YOUR next blizzard!

The Nightingale

Article posted March 18, 2011 at 07:08 PM GMT0 • comment (1) • Reads 416

Have you heard, the Nightingale is coming to town! I can't wait, at my school we have a school musical each year. The only grades that are in the musical though is the fourth grade and fifth grade at our school. I'm in luck this year because I am in fourth grade and I am doing the musical this year. The musical is the Nightingale. It is a wonderful story about a kingdom that a beloved emperor rules. In our play though a empress rules. She has heard of this wonderful nightingale and wants to see it. The nightingale is brought to the empress and keeps it there for a while. A little while latter a package arrives. A mechanical nightingale is in the box. Soon everyone likes the mechanical bird better. The real bird is banished from the kingdom. The mechanical bird breaks though and the empress grows sick. She is about to die when the real bird comes back and sings for the empress. The empress becomes better and everyone is overjoyed. So that is the play this year and I am very exited.

Reading!!

I have just finished the book Albert Einstein. It was a very good book and I enjoyed the book very much. It is about Albert Einstein from the time he was born to the time he died. The book happened to be a biography for my book report. This book was wonderful and was very interesting. For one I didn't know that the great scientist played the violin. Also I didn't know that he quit school at first but then went back because he wanted to get into a university. I never really knew much about Einstein and never thought to learn much about him. Then I decided he would be a good person to research, and boy am I glad I did, Albert isn't just a scientist with crazy hair he is much much better than that.

What I learned from Ginger Zee

Article posted February 11, 2011 at 08:29 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 513

Good afternoon! A meteorologist named Ginger Zee just come to our school. She loves her job. I know you are asking me what a meteorologist is. A meteorologist is someone who studies weather. They predict weather by sending a weather balloon into the atmosphere. Once the balloon runs into the storm it takes a picture and sends the picture back to the meteorologist. The meteorologist uses the picture to help predict the weather. My class and I have a question though, what if the weather balloon pops? Do you know?I learned also that meteorologists don't study earthquakes. I hadn't known that. I also never thought about tornados going different speeds. Then I asked the question and she told me you can't say a specific speed because the speed varies. I learned a lot from Ginger Zee and even more than I am writing down.I hope you enjoyed and learned something new from reading this.

Frindle 12-14

Article posted February 9, 2011 at 07:13 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 516

Chapter 12- Nick is becoming very popular and everyone recognizes him as the one who invented the frindle. Even though Nick's parents are irritated but they are also pleased. Nick and his are being put on the news too. After a while a person named Bud Lawrence starts selling frindle things but Nick's dad needs to sign papers to do it. Nick will get a 3rd of the money from all the sells. Nick's dad sets up an account for Nick's frindle money at the bank.
Chapter 13- Life goes back to normal but the sign that says Welcome To Westfield had a new sign underneath that says Home of the Original frindle.
Chapter 14- Nick was still Nick on the outside but on the inside he gets a little scared of new ideas because of what happened with the word frindle. On the last day of school Nick goes to say by to Mrs. Granger. She tells him he had been quite latly and to just be himself. He thanks her for the advice and says good- by to her.
I predict Mrs. Granger is now going to use the word frindle.
I predict Mrs. Granger is going to retire.
I predict Nick will buy Mrs. Granger a new dictionary.
I think Mrs. Granger has grown to be nicer throughout the year. I think even though she is really strict when Nick is older he will look back on her as his favorite teacher.

frindle 9-11

Article posted February 4, 2011 at 07:15 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 496

The principal goes over to Nick's house and talks to Nicks parents. Nick's mom saves the day.She does not see how making up a new word is a problem. The principal thinks about that for a little while. Then she talks for a little bit more with Nick's parents, and leaves. A while later a reporter comes to Nick's school. She wants to find out more about the word frindle. Everybody the reporter asks is a little bit annoyed.

I predict Nick will get on the news
I predict the word frindle will be put in the dictionaries.
I predict the word pen will be forgotten and it will be replaced by the word frindle.
If I were experiencing this change of words I would like it very much. It would be very interesting.

Frindle 5-8

Article posted February 4, 2011 at 07:12 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 494

In chapters 1-4 Nick finds out about his teacher Mrs. Granger. Then he tries his no homework trick on her. She tells him he has to do a report on dictionaries. He does the report in chapters 5-8 and he plans to take up the whole period. If he takes on and about dictionaries then they might not get any homework. His idea does not work and he still gets homework. On the walk home he picks up a pen. He doesn't think pen is a good name for the pen though, so he gives it the name frindle. Mrs. Granger gets so angry about this fake word that she sends the principal to Nicks house. Now what?

I predict everyone all over the country will start using the word frindle.
I predict if the word frindle keeps getting used Mrs. Granger will leave the school.
I really like the idea of the word frindle. I think it would be fun to make up a new word. If there is not too much homework I don't mind that much but I see Nick doesn't like homework.

Chicago had just got hit by a blizzard. It is really bad weather and people are having a hard time getting around. But the kids are having a good time. They have a snow day which means a whole day of playing in the snow. At my house the snow is very deep. I can hardly walk through it and it's still getting deeper!

I am reading the book Frindle. It is a really good book. I am blogging about chapters 1-4. It is about a kid named Nick. He is starting 5th grade. Usually he knows how to distract the teacher. Ask he/she a question and they will forget about giving homework. But when he tries it on Mrs. Granger she gives him MORE homework instead of no homework at all.

I predict Mrs. Granger will not like Nick's report.
I predict Nick will like Mrs. Granger by the end of the book.
I infer Mrs Granger really likes to learn.

He has a younger sister named BeeBee. Going on a trip sound fun until they get there. The very night when Kyle and BeeBee's parents go on cruise for the evening is when an earthquake hits followed by a tsunami. What on earth are they going to do? Read and find out!

I've really enjoyed reading The Invention of Hugo Cabret. It's a chapter book and most of the book is pictures. There is few words but the author did a real nice job getting the story through the readers mind. The words help you a lot with the story but when there is no words you can still understand the story very well.

Thats what we have been learning about in social studies but we have done lots of other things this week too. In gym we have been doing volleyball. We played until one of the teams reached fifteen points. Today though we played a game called- You Are Lucky If... That was fun! In math we have been doing order of operations. I think it has been one of our more fun units. Today in kidsmarts we worked on making goals for ourselves. It's always good to make goals so we can do our best.

My Christmas

Article posted January 10, 2011 at 08:10 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 487

O Christmas tree O Christmas tree I have that song stuck in my head but I don’t care because it’s Christmas and I’m glad because Christmas is my favorite holiday. I like it because I like to see my family and I like to go sledding.

Every year on Christmas we drive down to Iowa to see my Grandparents. Some of my cousins also live in Iowa along with my aunt and Uncle. They always come over to celebrate. We always sit down in my Grandparents family room and hand out presents. Last year my mom and all her brothers and sisters( my aunts and uncles) got my Grandpa a new computer. ( His old one was too old. It didn’t work very well.) It always feels so great to hand out presents. I don’t know about you but when I hand out presents it feels good to know someone will have fun. It’s also nice to receive presents. After we eat we sing Christmas songs. We sing stuff like We Wish You a Merry Christmas, and Santa Clau
s is Coming to Town and other songs.I think Christmas is so festive and fun.Singing Christmas carols is fun because it gets you into the Christmas spirit. Being inside is good but outside there is snow and sledding.

I also love to sled. My Grandma and Grandpa live on a hill so whenever we go there on Christmas we go out of the house, walk through the woods that are behind their house and we come to the edge of the hill. We set up our sleds and then whoosh, we sled down the hill. It’s so fun! You sometimes are better off sledding with someone older than you they just might pull the sled up for you. Then you don’t have to get so tired and you have more energy to sled. My mom sometimes takes pictures of us and when we look back at the pictures we look so funny. Some of the pictures are of us falling off the sled, laying in the snow, sledding down the hill and our sled leaping in the air because we we went over a bump.

We always have such a magical Christmas, between the sledding, family time and snow falling on our faces Christmas is great. Whatever holiday you celebrate I hope it’s as wonderful as mine.

His dad left without any notice. 2 years and some days later Gregor was folding clothes. He looks up and sees Boots dispearing under a washer. He runs after her and falls down too. I won't ruin the story so read it yourself!

My Winter Break

Article posted January 3, 2011 at 08:02 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 539

I had a blast over winter break! I Got off a day early from school and went to Wisconsin. We went there for my birthday. For lunch we ate at a place called Simple. Then we went on to our hotel. I didn't know where I was going because it was a surprise. Then as I opened my eyes I saw we came to a water park. We had a really fun day full of water slides, hot tubs, tubing and lots of other stuff.

A week later we were driving down to Iowa. My Grandparents live there and we were celebrating Christmas there. We got there the day before Christmas but we left at noon and got down there by about 6:00. We unpacked our car and then went out to eat. As we got back my Grandparents went to bed and we stayed up reading. We finally went to bed and in the morning we had such a fun time. My Grandparents live on a big hill overlooking a golf corse. It had just snowed 1-2 feet over the night and it was still snowing. I had rented cross country skis so my mom and I went cross country skiing. ( The great thing about the hill and golf corse is in the winter nobody is there but us.) Before we knew it it was lunch. After lunch we went sledding. We had a great time. That night my cousins came over to celebrate Christmas with us. We ate sang and opened presents.

The mouse maker dose the job

Article posted December 13, 2010 at 08:29 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 563

The next day my grandmama and I packed our bags. We were both so exited we woke up at 3 in the morning. We ate breakfast, then I brushed my teeth with my little toothbrush while Grandmama primped and packed our bags. ( I even got a bag with small shirts for me to wear inside.) Then we left. Since I like to look out the window my Grandmother made me a tall chair to put on the real chair. A little seatbelt was built in so I would be safe. Instead of Grandmama picking me up and putting me on the little chair there were steps built in to get to the top of the mini chair. Even though the witches lived in Norway it was the other side from where we lived. We drove about an hour and then came to a hotel. " I got reservations her." said my Grandmother. " Where is the witch's castle?" I asked. " Right down the road." We checked in and rushed up to the room. We started the mouse maker right away. We got all the ingredients which I will not name because of the nasty things. We finished earlier than planned so we drove over to the castle. The place was a wonderful building with blue paint on the door. It had bricks bordering the windows. " Go on." Grandmama said. I ran out of the car grabbed a stick and started to whack the door. The door opened and I ran in holding the bottle of mouse maker. I ran into one room. two witches were crying. " Poor witch Sara and all the other Inkland witches." cried one. " Poor Sara." cried the other. I ran out of that room. All the rooms were interesting but did't have anything important in them. Then I came into a very large room. It had a thrown. A lady was sitting in it. A witch I should say. The new grand high witch I thought as I ran out of that room. The next room was the kitchen. I ran up the counter and poured the bottle of mouse maker into the soup as I had done the last time. Perfect I thought. That job is done. I ran out of the castle again to tell my Grandmother all that had happened.

I was walking to school and that's how this story started. I was as late as every day and I was so angry. My mom goes to work in the morning and I have to take care of my little sister. She is so slow. It tales her an hour to finish breakfast and once she is done with that it takes her five minutes to brush her hair and seven minutes to brush her teeth and then ten minutes to get dressed and then it is a seven minute walk to school, so all and all I'm always late for school. But just today as I was walking along to my school ( not my sister's school which is pre school.) I found a 20 dollar bill. I kept it. But as I reached school a girl with dazzling blue eyes and dark brown hair pulled into braids came through a crowd of shouting girls. " I've checked everyone but nobody has a 20 dollar bill. I was walking to school and it must have slipped out of my pocket. Did you by any chance find one?" the girl asked dully. As I had said I did find her 20 dollar bill. But I said I hadn't found her 20 dollar bill. As I said that she looked so sad, as if about to cry any minute. I then wanted to say I did find it but I knew I couldn't do that, I didn't have the courage. The next day I was so sad about what I had done my sister was was the one waiting. I was about to leave the house but I ran back up the stairs. I wrote a note to the girl. It sounded something like this- I'm sorry I didn't tell you this but I found your 20 dollar bill. I found it yesterday and I didn't tell you I had it. Then I grabbed the 20 dollar bill and went down the stairs. As I reached school I found the girl sitting in line looking even more sad than the day before. I gave her the note and money. She read the note and then she looked at me. A smile spread across her face. " Thanks." she said. " You're welcome." I said.

My Thanksgiving

Article posted November 29, 2010 at 08:11 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 549

I had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I went to Cincinnati, thats where my cosines, aunt, and uncle on my dad's side live.We went the day before Thanksgiving. We got up and hit the road. We drove the five or six hours it took us to get there and came to their house. We greeted everyone and spent the rest of the afternoon at their house.
Later that night after dinner sometime we drove to our hotel and went to bed.( I got to sleep on the bed and my brother got the cot.)

The next day we got up and went back to their house. We spent a couple of hours at their house and drove to my uncle's country club. My mom and dad went and sat down at a table while my brother and I went to the kids table. We got lots of food. Turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, salad (for the people who wanted it) and they even had pasta. We ate our food then some people got second helpings while other people had desert. We had for desert cookies and then there was also pumpkin pie, apple pie, chocolate cake, and some nut pie. My aunt took pictures of everyone. After all the excitement of eating we went back to my uncle's house. We were going to play football like every year but just for the record it was raining the day we came and on Thanksgiving day so we did't play football. But instead we played ping pong, watched t.v., talked, looked at old pictures, and lots of other things. After people started to leave we started to play a board game. It was then starting to get late so we went back to our hotel. ( I had to have the cot and my brother got the bed.) I think I had a good Thanksgiving.

The bike ride

Article posted November 8, 2010 at 08:24 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 182

I opened my eyes. It was 1:00 in the morning. I tried to sleep but I couldn't. I turned over so I was facing the wall. I started to think about the next day. That's all I remember. I must have gone back to sleep.

The light was so bright it hurt my eyes. I turned back over on my other side to see the time. It was now 8:00. Yikes! I thought. I'm late for school. Ops, it's the weekend. I turned back over and tried to go to sleep again. But instead of closing my eyes I pulled off my blankets. I got up and ran downstairs. I had been so exited for the past month because on January 3 it will be my birthday and just for the record January 3 is tomorrow! I will be turning 7 years old. Just now I found my mom in the living room reading the paper."Morning mom! I say. "Good morning go ahead and get yourself some breakfast!" My mom yawns. So I go into the kitchen and get myself some cereal. I start to eat but just then the phone rang. I pick it up and find it to be my friend Kate. "Hi this is Kate I was wondering if you could come with me to go bike riding." "Ok, let me finish by breakfast." Ok, I finished my'n about 2 hours ago. See you then" Just so you know Kate is an early riser. She always wakes up at around 6:00. I finished quickly and rode over to her house. She got on her bike and we were off. We rode for a while but it was a very lucky chance when we saw a 3 year old laying on the path. We were just riding so fast that before I new it Kate yelled," Don't run over that kid." That is how I happened to not run over him. We both got off our bikes and walked over to him. " are you all right?" I asked. I - can't- find - my - mommy. The boy sobbed. "Don't worry, we can help you." said Kate. So that is how Kate got to be holding the boys hand and I was walking along side them. We walked aways and finally we found a lady. "Fillip." she said. Thank you both, I have been so scared. Then she ran away holding Fillip in her arms. Kate and me were so tired that we walked back to our bikes, then we walked ourselves and our bikes all the way back home.

Information about gems

Article posted November 8, 2010 at 07:57 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 588

Some of the most famous gems are crystals. Crystals have flat sides, called faces. Crystals are made up of atoms. In crystals the atoms are arranged in neat patterns. Most crystals form under the earth. Sapphires form when minerals get so hot that they melt. Other gems such as Opals form when minerals dissolve in water. There are also Pearls. Pearls are made when a grain of sand gets trapped inside an oyster's shell. Coral and Amber are organic gems. Coral is made of sea creature's skeletons, while Amber is made from the fossils of insects caught in sap. The gems that are made underground are so small and hard to find that mining is done by hand. To find a gem miners must chip and cut the rock. When miners find a gem it looks dull and ugly. It is also bumpy. Gems are often cut by gem cutters so they can show of how pretty they are. When the gem comes out the value of the gem is determined by how hard it is and a system called the four c's. The four c's stands for cut, carat weight, color, and clarity. These are all things to know about gems.

I had a wonderful Halloween! To start off this blog post I will tell you a VERY good thing! I got lots of candy! I went trick or treating two times. The first time I went I went with my best friend. We had a great time going house to house and getting loads of candy. We had been going trick or treating for a long time but it seemed like a short time when we went back home. We split up but just when we had left another friend called me to trick or treating with her so of course I then went with her. We had a really fun time and before I new it we had to stop. It was a really fun Halloween!
The end.

When he gets back home to his mom they go on vacation to the beach were his lost father and his mom met. Then that night there is a hurricane and they have to leave suddenly.

I like this book because it is a mystery, adventure, and fun book all in the same book. It makes you eager to read and you never want to stop. This book really pulls you into the story.

I don't exactly know what to write about, but i'll find something to write about. I have heard lots of great things about fourth grade and about my teacher, Mr. Edwards. The things are true. This year I will be doing math, reading, writing, and all the regular school things. I will also be doing book reports, simple machines and other things. Are specials are the same as always gym, computer lab, science lab, library, art and music. ( I think that is all the specials we have.) Sorry but I don't have much more to write about so I will now say...
