Greenbriar Is Awesome!

Have you ever been disappointed by your school? Will the principal or teachers not listen to you?Then come to Greenbriar. Greenbriar is a school where the students have updated supplies. And best of all, we have nice teachers.
Updated supplies like computers are very important. They are important, because they let you access blogs. Blogs are great tools for writing, because you can write more in less time when you type. Typing lets me express my ideas much quicker than with a pencil and paper. This means that I won’t just have the opinion of my partner I can talk to someone in Germany. Then you can get different comments that will help make your writing better. This makes you learn more, which is the point of school.
Nice teachers are crucial for all schools. They are important because if the teacher isn’t nice you will be focused on the teacher (not your work). In all situations this is bad because then you can’t do your best work. If this happens you will get bad grades. Then comes angry parents and teachers.
Now that I have told you this I hope you will think twice about the school your child goes to. Maybe even have them go to Greenbriar.

In class I read a story about a family that was having difficltys with life in Russia. These problems were pogroms, these are groups of people that attack and kill people. In addition to that one of the family members had to go to war. This was very bad because there were very bad conditions.
They soon decided to get out of Russia and sail to America.That is what they did. The trip was difficult, but they finally made it. Sadly their trip was not over, they had to take a fairy to Elis Island. There they would be checked for serious diseases, if a very bad disease was found that person would be sent back without any family.
When they got to their "house" they found it very small.Sadly that isn't even the worst of it, the ,men had to work at sweatshops. They weren't well payed well even though woking hours were long.Overall the Markowitz family enjooyed their new life in America.

During this week I did many exciting things.One of those things was making a sampler, this is a thing to help with spellind and working with numbers. During this prosses I got to have corn bread and apple juice.
This week I also finished up ISATs. If you have never heard of them the n now you will learn.They are big tests in the end of February and the beginning of March. In many ways they can be scary and annoying but they aren't that bad. Those were the most interesting thing I did this week.

My Half Week

This week I was sick on Monday and Tuesday, on Thursday a half a day and on friday no school!! During this week I did a lab in math, it was about volume. We would fill up a graduated cylinder, put marbles in the water and measure the displacement.
We also did art, in art we made clay pots and carved ancient Egyptian people on the pot. We were only were allowed to use black paint because we were trying to draw like Egyptians.I had a lot of fun doing this project, I think you should try it.Tell me how it turns out!
That is what I did on this very very short week at my marvelous school, Greenbriar. Maybe you could try to do the lab at home or talk to your teacher about doing it in class.Have a great time!!

This week I saw a show about the cool secret ways to get out and in the White House.They also showed the secret hide outs for the President.
I was wondering why the President would do this because then unknown people will know how to get in the White House.I was also asking myself is the president trying to fool someone?what do you think is happening?Comment on my article and maybe I might show an answer I thought was cool.

Today(February 11,2011)Ginger Zee she told us about the basics of weather. I learned about tornados, high and low air pressure and we also learned about what she does.
I found this very interesting because I have a lot in common and one off the things that I want to be when I grow up is a weather reporter like her. Hope you are now more inerested in weather.

While reading the last chapters of Frindle I was wondering about the part when Nicks father's friend offers a deal. Part of the deal is that however much money the friend makes off of frindles Nick get 30% of it. The other part of the deal was that Nicks dad would have to give the friend permission to use the word frindle on the pens that he sells.
Now, I was wondering why the friend would be so generous to give Nick so much money. I was also wondering why only one of Nick's friends were shown in detail when he was said to have a lot of friends.That is the entire book of Frindle.

In class we are reading chapters 9 through 11 in Frindle. While reading these chapters I was wondering why a reporter wrote about the new word,(also the name of the book)Frindle.This reporter wrote about this like it was a war between dictionary followers and Nick's followers. I would be on Nicks because it would be fun but challenging. It gets way more interesting but that part is in chapter 12.I'll keep you posted!

At my school there was a stranger danger warning and my friend and I were the cause of it. One day at recess my friend and I were playing by the fence when an odd car drove up to us. The person inside told us to come over to him using a motion so no one would notice him. My friend and I decided that this was not safe so we went to see our friends. They didn't believe us that made us feel really bad so we asked another friend of ours. He told the teacher with us, I was glad it was over with.
During class in the afternoon the principal came over and pulled me aside and asked me some questions. Then after school the police came to my house to ask me some more questions.
The next day at school I had a lot of explaining to do but I managed. I hope that was my last time with stranger danger, for a while.

My class is reading a book called Frindle. Frindle is a story about a boy, his name is Nick.He is in middle school at Lincoln Elementary and he wasn't exactly the best or the worst kid in class he was the one who gave birth to a the "new" word.He decided to change the word pen,it drove the teachers crazy.
I thought that the part of the book that I read was very funny because the teachers had on clue what was going on.It was also funny because everyone loved the fact that the word was geting noticed more and more.
I would tell you the whole story but that would ruin it if you read Frindle,so I won't tell you the rest. Have fun reading!

In my reading group we just finished a book called Escaping The Giant Wave.It was a story about a brother and sister and the brother is looking after the sister.Oh did I mention that they are on vacation. I can't tell you any more because that would spoil the story. When the parents left to go to there cruse there was an earthquake. I can't tell you any more because that would spoil the story so I decided to tell you about what I thought about the book. I thought it was a spectacular because it was very descriptive.

Boom! ”Whoa, fireworks so early?” I forgot its the Forth Of July. That must mean the parade is starting.
I love going to the parade because my cousins from China com to see it. I like them a lot because they are so fun and including.Our favorite part of the parade is when these two men come over with gigantic guns and shoot,it is very loud and smells terrible.Then they throw candy up,up into the air.I always try my hardest to catch them then I give a good portion of them to my little brothers.I do this because most of the candy gets snatched by the older kids.Afterwards we go and hang out at my grandparents house where my cousins stay while they are here.If it is hot we eat what seams like thousands of ice cubes.Then we play our all time favorite game Tickle Bug.In this game we have a home base(our grandparents ginormous closet)and the grownups are it.They will chase us,If they catch one of us they will tickle that person until we are saved.To
save someone you have to crawl in between the taggers legs.The rules are
that when you are the person tickling one of us kids,you must spread your legs apart.The other rule is that the kids are safe from the grownups when in the home base.After everyone begins to remember Tickle Bug we start to
play.
The next thing we do is go to my house to see my dad’s friend from
across the streets fireworks.They are so fun to watch because some of them form shapes which to me, are very cool.I also like the variety of colors
they choose each year. Afterward my cousins sleep over,but we never get much of the sleeping part done.”Come on Colleen its time to watch a movie on the mini DVD player!” “Coming.” Sorry got to go,bye.

My Awesome Winter Break

Winter Break is my favorite part of the school year because my cousins from China are in town.There names are Julia and Renee.They are nice, funny and love to play games.
When my cousins first come we have a party.The party is always at my grandparents house.When my family and I get to my grandparents house all of the kids head to the basement to play games.We usually tell jokes, tell everyone what up and have a bunch of fun.After about an hour of play we head upstairs to have dinner.We always have beef tenderloin, mashed potatos,(made by dad)and we also have green beens.I have never liked green beens so I pass them to Renee.My favorite part of dinner is the wizard, I like him because if you ask him a yes or no question he will answer it in an odd way.Then we go back home.Over the next couple of days we hang out with our cousins untill New Years Eve.
Since my cousins leave on New Years Day we have another party but it is way more fun.When we get to my grandparents house I will always bring my viola.When I get there I go into the basement to practice viola with Julia and Renee.This year my aunt brought glow sticks.The best part was that you could turn them into balls and there were two colors inside.My dad put them all over himself,it was so funny.Then we left and in the morning the left for China.

The next day we set off towards the cassle, it was a sunny day with only one cloud in the sky.When we got to forest Grandmama said,"I shall wait for you here.Be sure you come back to this very spot by sundown."Don't worry I will do just fine,"I said.We said our goodbyes and I crept toward the forrest.It was dark and quiet,it seamed to go on forever.After a wile I spotted a dim light through a crack in a tree.It turned out to be a gold door cut into a huge stone that seamed to go on and on.I soon found a key hole that was so close to the ground I didn't even need to jump to get through it.The withces probubly made the key hole close to the ground so nowone would spot it,I thought.When I got inside I saw many people running as fast as lightning.They were all wearing purple suits.I snooped around untill I found the Kitchen,it was diserted.I then saw a big table.There was a broom lying on it so I decided to climb it, when I got to the top I saw a bowl of soup.I soposed it was for the witches,so I got the delaed action mouse maker and tryed to unscrued the lid but it wouldn't budge,so I broke the top off and pored it in the pot.Then all the sudden a witch walked towards me with a huge cat in her arms...

During thanksgiving break my cousins came over to my house.My favorite part of the night was when we made my cousin Patrick "The Beast".This was my favorite part of the night because we would lock Patrick in my dog's cage and feed him doritos through the bars.This was so funny because he would have to be poked to make him listen.When we let him out he would run around and chase people.After this was over I made a lanyard,it was black,white,gold and orange.When I got bored of that I listened to music.Afterwards I ate dinner.I don't like turkey,but I love pie.After dinner people started to leave,so I went to bed, and that was the end of my Thanksgiving.

Crystals are made by water that is in the earth.Then the water evaporates and adams move into place to form a crystal. Crystals are deep in the ground so people have to build a mine to find them.When a minders find a crystal it will not look as pretty as you would expect it to be.The crystals have bumps scratches and black spots.So people have to cut them into surfaces called faces.There are many different kinds of cuts but that depends on the gem.Organic gems like pearls and coral come from living things like bugs.All these gems are valuable because of their weight,size,cut and clarity.They are also valuable because of their color and how strong they are.Another important thing to know is that diamonds can cut anything stone or even metal.Since gems are popular and rare scientists are trying to make gems so we can enjoy them forever.

Halloween 2010 was the best Halloween ever because,I got a verity of candy and I enjoyed spending time with my friends.I enjoyed spending time with my friends because I got to talk about what is new well eating candy.I also liked the new candies I got to try.That is why this was the best Halloween ever!!

The book I am reading is The Titans Curse, it is in the same series as The Lighting Theft.The reason I like the series is because the books make you feel like you are involved in the story,it makes you feel like everything they talk about is real.That is why I like The Titans Curse!!
