I give you back your child, the same child you entrusted to my care last fall. I give him/her back pounds heavier, inches taller, months wiser, more responsible and more mature than he/she was then. Although he/she would have attained this in spite of me, it has been my happy privilege to watch his/her personality unfold day by day and marvel at each new achievement, each new success, each new expansion of self.
I give him/her back reluctantly; for having spent nine months together in the narrow confines of a crowded classroom, we have grown close, have become part of each other and shall always be one another’s friend. We have lived, loved, laughed, played, studied, learned, and enriched our lives together this year. I wish it could go on indefinitely, but give him/her back I must.
Take care of him/her for he/she is precious and one of a kind. Remember that I shall always be interested in your child and his/her destiny, wherever he/she goes, whatever he/she does, whoever he/she becomes. I have loved being a part of his/her life.
Thank you for sharing such an amazing child with me!

Often times at school when we are working quietly, a few students can't help but sing. One of their favorite songs to sing while they work is called “Replay” by Sean Kingston--it must have been popular over the summer. We changed the words to help us remember the short a sound. Enjoy!

Please come and join us for Family Literacy Night. This event is held on Thursday, March 24th from 3:30-6:00. All students will have work displayed in the gym. Students were able to select any kind of fish they liked. The then researched the fish on World Book for Kids. Finally, they used the facts to form a report. We also created an image of the fish to go along with our reports.
We also created a voicethread project based on these same reports. Students were able draw a picture on the computer using the program paint. Next they read their stories. You are able to view the picture and listen to the story. This project will be posted next week.
Enjoy!

This week at one of our centers we are making fruit kabobs. Students are working with Mrs. Moeller to create a fruit kabob using a pattern. This connects to our patterning practice in math. After they finish, students enjoy this treat. Finally students evaluate. In reading, we evaluate the books we read by deciding if we like the book or not, and always give a reason to support our answer. We can do this with the food we like too. Students did a great job creating their kabobs. Their evaluations will be on display in our classroom. Check out student blogs to see pictures.

This week we read a story about two best friends. The best friends had a lot of things in common, but a lot differences also. We spent time comparing and contrasting the friends--a challenging skill for a new first grader, and we also made beautiful pictures of our own best friends. As we create our classroom community we are spending a lot time talking about what it takes to be a good friend. In first grade we say, if you want a friend--be a friend!

Practice Practice Practice!!!
What a great week! I am so excited for the year to come and all of the learning that is taking place. This week we really focused on classroom routines. We practiced and practiced and practiced!
Each night students will bring home a “Take Home” folder. This will have completed projects and items that can be kept at home. Each day the folder should come back to school. Students will also bring home an agenda book. Students have written a message about their day, please review the message, sign the agenda book, and return it to school each day. We are working hard on organization and responsibility!
