Thank you so much to Anjan, Jackson, Jacob, Will and Kuljyot who were the first people to submit their book review homework - I loved reading them, you did a great job of convincing me to read these stories. I will have a hard choice in the holidays deciding which to begin with!!
The rest of Room 4, you have until Friday to complete your review - including your lunchtimes if necessary. Work out how much time you have after school or during school and do a little bit here and there.

You need to complete and post your book review on your blog - you can use the one you started in class, or begin a new one. I will check it and copy it for publishing on our Book Exchange Wall once you have blogged it.
Remember that you you need to stick with the book review format and include:
Title and Author
Date and Publisher, ISBN number
Opening paragraph mentioning the main character
Body with details of what happened in the story - without giving too much away
Persuasive language that tells the reader why they should read it now - I statement, you statements, exclamation, emotive words...

The Amazing Brain!
Thank you for your terrific homework over the last week, which most of you were able to answer through your blog - way to go!! Well done also if you homework was in your book
Do you recall at the beginning of our Life Education visit we came back to class and had all those wonderings about the brain? Before next Friday, your new challenge is to find out something new about the brain that you were wondering, or didn't already know about.
We will also be conducting some brain experiments next week on ourselves, so be prepared for that! I will tell you more closer to the time.

We were lucky enough to be the first class in to the Life Education Van with Harold on Monday. It has been ages since I saw him last... hasn't he grown!!
Bernie gave us some a homework challenge...... to find out the other 8 body systems. We already found out about these 4:
Circulatory System, Respiratory System, Digestive System and the Nervous System.
On your own blog, you need to find out as many of other eight systems as you can, and tell me what they do in your body. Use full sentences, check your spelling and punctuation, and reread to make sense.

RUNNING!RUNNING!RUNNING!
Get those shoes on and get moving! You have 40 kilometres to cover in the next 8 weeks. Remember that we worked out you need to cover 5 kilometres a week. Measure out a kilometre near your house with mum or dad in the car - and go for your life!
Have you started your ACHIEVEMENT AWARD yet?? Choose a challenge and make a start this week - you need to keep on top of this. We will have a look at this during the week so we can be prepared.
EXTRA: Research... what can you find out about the Rotorua Marathon? Can you find out any tips for us to improve our training? Write in your own words and bring in for our marathon display. (Remember: Write any reading on the internet into your reading log toward your reading certificate).

These word problems are using the 2 and 4 times tables, which has been our focus this week in our maths groups. Have a try. They get a bit harder as you go along. Maybe you could put some on your own blog page?
* Five people line up and buy two iceblocks each. How many were sold altogether?
* Seven boxes were sitting on the shelf. Each box had 4 packets of socks inside. How many socks were there altogether?
* Jane had ten roses bushes in her garden. Each rose bush had four flowers on it. How many flowers did Jane have altogether?
* If there were 12 cheetahs in a cage and each cheetah ate four pieces of steak a night, how many steak would they need? How many for two nights?
* I have a collection of matchbox cars. Each box has 15 cars in and there are 4 boxes altogether. How many cars are there in my collection?

Here's some extra maths homework for our MATH NUTS!
This is the 10 times tables. Can you use the question and answer to create a card game to race other people - try it out on mum and dad and see if you can beat them too!!
10 x 0 = 0 10 x 1 = 10 10 x 2 = 20 10 x 3 = 30
10 x 4 = 40 10 x 5 = 50 10 x 6 = 60 10 x 7 = 70
10 x 8 = 80 10 x 9 = 90 10 x 10 = 100 10 x 11 = 110

Pairs to 10.
1. What are they...... make a list of the ones you can think of.
2. Find the pair to 10 to solve these and record.
16 + 4 = 12 + 8 = 13 + 7= 6 + 14 =
37 + 3 = 48 + 2 = 22 + 8 = 54 + 6 =
3. Use the pairs to 10 to work out these ones..... a bit more thinking this time
12 + 9 + 11 + 8 = 16 + 17 + 4 + 3 =
22 + 15 + 5 + 8 = 19 + 21 + 13 + 7 =
Make up a couple of your own and challenge mum or dad to find the pairs to 10 first to work them out.

Here is your first homework question to think about and comment on...
Oliver gets $5 pocket money a week for doing his jobs. He is saving up for a new CD which costs $25.00. He has $15 already. How many weeks until he can buy his CD?
His friend rings to see if he wants to go to the shop with him. He can't decide what to do... if he goes it will be an extra week before he can have his CD. What would you do?
