We have been studying about Antarctica. Did you know that the only two animals that live in Antarctica are penguins and seals? They usually live near the shore line. We were asked to make a flag for Antarctica because, just like the United States of America has the American Flag, Antarctica needs one too. it was really fun to create the flag and I really enjoyed the project!

living in space

When living in space the astronauts need to wear different kinds of clothing to protect themselves and for comfort. Like their space suites and their helmets so when they go in space they can have a source of oxygen and so they can be attached to something so you do not float away.
The food that they eat in space is liquid free so that the liquid does not float around the area. You do however have the choice to have your food heated because in most space crafts there are small ovens.
When working in space there are many tasks to preform as they orbit earth. They also need a medical instructor to make sure nobody gets sick while in space.
Personal hygiene is a definite need like when taking a shower you use rinseless shampoo and when going to the bathroom you need to be tied down to the toilet while a vacume sucks the waste so it does not float around.

How Far Does the Wind Blow?

The wind wisps through the field. The flowers sway back and forth. Which makes me wonder, How far does the wind blow? Does it carry on going from tree to tree? No one will know unless they follow it.
The wind is our worst enemy and our best friend. It gets you nice and cool on scorching hot summer days, but blows all the fallen leaves all over your lawn after you spent all that spare time raking them.
Enemies or best friends?
How far?
The wind gives you something to think about.

Rock Cycle

Hello! I am magma! I am boiling hot, and ready to get out of the center of the Earth. I see a tunnel above me. I am going to erupt out of here! On my way up some of me stayed behind below the Earth's surface! I can feel that part of me cooling slowly. I am hardening and forming large crystals inside me! If I'm ever found by a rock collector, they will call me intrusive or plutonic igneous rock. I could be granite or gabbro or diorite.
The rest of me that made it out the top of the volcano, oozed down the side of the volcano and now I'm cooling quickly. I have smaller crystals in me than the rock that stayed behind. If someone finds me they will classify me as extrusive igneous rock. I could be basalt or ryolite or andosite.
Next on my journey of change, me and my two friends, sedimentary and metamorphic, get swept away by a river due to erosion! We were transported! We were turned into pebbles, sand, and clay! And due to the velocity of the river flow we were deposited in different parts of the river! Then sedimentation set in where minerals deposited, and we hardened up into clastic sedimentary rocks! Some of us are shale, sandstone, breccia, or conglomerate.
Now, if we had been swept away by the ocean, things would have been a little different! We would have had a chemical reaction before our cementation and lithification! We would be called, nonclastic sedimentary rocks. We could be gypsum or limestone.
Me and my friends could be exposed to high temperatures and pressure. If the pressure is unequal we would become foliated metamorphic rock with a striped appearance. We could be gneiss, slate, schist, or phyllite.
But if we are exposed to high temperature and low but equal pressure we will be nonfoliated metamorphic rock! We could be marble or quartzite.
This rock cycle sure tries to change us a lot, so I might as well melt back into magma and go back to where I started from.

Language Arts: We wrote African Folktales mine was about a Zebra. It was called, How the Zebra Got Its Stripes. That project was a lot of fun.
Science: We made African posters and we were assigned an African animal. Mine was the African Manatee. The poster included what are its adaptations to the environment and what it eats etc.
Math: In math we made African designs to put on the whistles we made in art. They had to have a reflection, rotation, and a translation. Mine had a giraffe on it.
Social Studies: We are going on a fake trip to Africa. We have to fill out expense sheets that say what we eat and how much it costs. We have a checkbook with 10,000 metaphorical dollars in it.
Music: We are playing African drums and learning about African instruments.
Art: In art we are making whistles out of clay. Next we are going to paint African designs on them.
Technological education: we are making instruments out of wood and we are carving designs in them. When we are done they will be a cool African instrument that we can play.
