Stock Market Report

Article posted May 24, 2011 at 02:36 PM GMT • comment • Reads 97

In math class we have been following certain stocks, that we have chosen, over a few months and now we are doing a project about it. I invested in AT&T, Pier 1 Imports, Coca Cola, and Microsoft Corporation because they were doing really well and I thought that I could make money off of them. I also chose these stocks because I researched part of their past and they had been doing well but the downside of that is that you can't research the future. This essay will tell you about why I chose these stocks and how they did over the course of these six months.

I have invested in AT&T, Pier 1 Imports, Microsoft Corporation, and Coca Cola because I thought that they would all have a positive outcome for me and because they seemed to be doing well at the time that I was investing. One reason that I chose AT&T is that I have it as a phone plan and it has been doing very well. Another reason is that A lot of people have AT&T so I thought that I would get a lot of money from it. I invested in Pier 1 Imports because my teacher recommended this one to me and said that a student made a lot of money off of it. Another reason that I invested in this stock is that the prices were rising and I thought that I would make money. I invested in this because it was around Christmas and the Xbox 360 and Kinect had just come out so I thought I would be making money in it. I invested in Coca Cola because I researched the stock and it was doing really well so I thought that I would make lots of money off of this stock. Overall I think that I chose pretty good stocks.

I would not change some stocks, yet I would change others because I would like to have some better stocks. I wouldn’t change AT&T because it did well and was my second highest paying stock out of the four. I wouldn’t change Pier 1 Imports because my teacher was right! It was the highest paying out of all of my stocks. It even made over eight-hundred dollars! That beat my other stocks by a couple hundred! It did do very well again, so I was happy with this stock. The Silver Wheaton Company did very well and in Microsoft Corporation I lost some money. I wish that I had invested in this one instead because it did a lot better than Microsoft Corporation. I would have changed Coca Cola to Sandrige Energy because it did a lot better than Coca Cola and it would have been a much better investment. I wish that I had invested in this because it would have been a wiser and smarter decision on my part.  My stocks did very well and I am happy with my decisions to “invest” in them.

The advice that I would give someone on investing in the stock market varies on the stocks they are asking me about. Definitely research your stocks before you buy them. I did some research and found out that AT&T had been doing really well and it was rising so I decided to invest and it worked out pretty well. Take advice from your elders about it. I needed one more stock to invest in and my teacher told me about how a kid, a few years back, invested in Pier 1 Imports and made lots of money so I took her advice and invested, it worked out very well! I made tons of money off of it! Don’t think about where it is now, think about the future. I thought about how it was Christmas time and how kids would get Xboxs and Kinects but I didn’t think about after Christmas and I lost money in that stock. See if the company was making a lot of money before you invest in it. I only looked at how Coca Cola was doing now, not at how it was doing in the past, and it was doing well. But it turns out, in the past it was roller-coasterish so I didn’t really know what had happened. I got advice from other people, but I also gave myself advice and it worked!

As you have seen in this report my stocks did very well, with the exception of one of course. I really enjoyed working on this project. It was something that I've never really thought about doing, but now that we have done it as a class I'm interested in maybe doing it in real life when I'm older. I think that I chose some pretty good stocks, and got some pretty good advice on how to choose them, so overall I enjoyed this project and I am very glad that we did this!

Penguins are awesome!

Article posted March 18, 2011 at 07:09 PM GMT • comment • Reads 990

I chose to make this flag  because the penguin is a large part of the life in Antarctica and they are one of the most interesting animals in the world (in my opinion). I put the Emporer penguin and the Macaroni penguin because the emporer penguin is the largest and it has a yellow marking on the side of its head, the Macaroni penguin has orange feathers on its head and that is what made it be called a macaroni penguin. Also I put jellyfish on each corner because they inhabit almost all of the climates in the world and Antarctica is one of them. I put starfish in the border because when Ms. Ellwood brought back pictures she had some of starfish and these are a few of the colors that they are. I wrote that it is the coldest continent and wrote below zero in ccrazy letters and I wrote that it is the windiest continent and I drew a picture of wind on the other side. I worked really hard on this flag and I really liked learning about Antarctica.

In science class we are learning about Antarctica. It is very interesting to know about what animalslive there, how they survive, and all of the cool facts about the continent itself. This graph is about how far under the ocean an animal can go and how long they can hold their breath underwater. The animal that can dive the farthest is the Sperm Whale and it is huge!!!! The Weddell Seal has the can hold its breath the longest. Antarctica is very cool and interesting!

The Eye

Article posted December 21, 2010 at 01:28 AM GMT • comment • Reads 711

The eye is a very interesting part of your body. The parts of the eye that are visible are some of the most important parts. One of them is the schlera. The schlera is the white part of your eye that blocks some of the light that goes into your eye so that it doesn't blind you. Another is the iris. Your iris is a muscle that opens and closes your pupil to make it adjust to the light and the dark. Your pupil is a hole. You have a lens over your pupil to help you focus on things, so if you don't have as good of a lens as you should you have to wear glasses. Your cornea is a protective, clear coat over your eye. If you dont have a cornea or if something is wrong with it dust particles and other things could get into your eye and it would hurt. Also you might not be able to see if there is somethign wrong with it but now you can get a cornea transplant so you  will be able to see again. Your eyelashes, eyelid, and eyebrow all offer protection for your eye. The eyelashes and eyelids clear the stuff out of your eye so if there is sand in your eye they will help get it out. Your eyelid makes things go away from your eye so if your in the shower and the shampoo goes down  your face and starts to go into your eye, most of the time the shampoo goes away from your eyes and down your face. There is so much to learn about the eye. I really enjoyed learning about the eye in science class!!

Reflection: The Ocean

Article posted December 3, 2010 at 06:36 PM GMT • comment • Reads 933

I watched the waves break on the soft sand like a butterfly making it's perfect landing on a leaf. The beach is where I like to go and do homework or just think. I always sit on a certain rock that is gray with white and black speckles on it. The rock has a perfect indent that makes it very comfy to sit on. The deep blue mixed with a slight green and it's beautiful to look at. The sounds of the ocean comfort me and make me relax. The sound of the waves crashing down on the beach, like a bird diving down on it's helpless pray.

Living in Space

Article posted November 5, 2010 at 07:15 PM GMT • comment • Reads 1050

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to live in space like astronauts? Well it's really cool and interesting to learn about. They do all of the things that we do on earth but their floating while they do it! Some things that I am going to tell you about are the clothing that they use, the food that they eat, the work that they do and, the way that they sleep. Well here it goes!

First, I am going to tell you about the clothes that the astronauts wear. They choose what they want to wear in space months before the launch so that they can be prepared for it ahead of time. Also you choose from Russian or American clothing supplies to wear while you in space. You can wear anything you want so that your very comfortable in the shuttle. You can wear anything from T-shirts to running shoes to thick sweatpants as long as your comfy!

Second, I am going to tell you about what astronauts eat while their in space. They can eat some foods in natural form such as brownies or fruit. But some foods need water such as macaroni and cheese or spaghetti. In the shuttle there are ovens to heat the food but their are no refrigerators. Condiments like mustard, ketchup, and mayonnaise are provided. Certain things such as salt and pepper come in liquid form. The astronauts eat three meals a day just like everyone else, and they can choose from a variety of different foods to eat.

Third, I am going to tell you about what kind of work astronauts do while they're in space. They do science experiments in space. Also they do medical experiments to determine how well their bodies adjust to no gravity for long periods of time. The astronauts have to clean the filters, update the computer equipment, update the support systems, and insure that their largest investment stays in good shape, ensuring the maintenance and health of the platform.

Fourth and lastly I'm going to tell you about the way that the astronauts sleep in space. In outer space there is no up or down so they can sleep in whatever position they want but they have to be strapped to a wall, seat, or bunk-bed. They strap themselves to things so that they don't float all over the cabin that they are sleeping in. The astronauts usually sleep in sleeping bags, either on the bunk beds or the commander's/pilot's chairs. There are only four bunk beds so someone has to strap themselves to something.

All of these things that I have told you about are very important to know about astronauts and how they live in space. It makes you wonder about how your body would react to no gravity for long periods of time, or if you would like space food, or what having no up or down would be like. It is probably the coolest sensation to feel no gravity, and someday maybe you will feel that very sensation while your up in space.

Mr. Gianforte's Astronomy Reflection

Article posted November 3, 2010 at 04:18 PM GMT • comment • Reads 1118

When Mr. Gianforte , kindly, came to our school to talk to us about astronomy being an astronomer he knew a lot about the subject. Knowing that there are so many planets out there makes me wonder if there is any more life out there. Whenever I think about how big the universe is it makes me feel so small compared to everything else around me. I really liked learning about astronomy because I always thought about the stars and what planets they are and what they look like up close.

My favorite part of the astronomy talk was when he was talking about the intergalactic space. He said that there might be a lot of empty space beyond what we know is there. I was really intrigued when he said that the universe might only be a small part of something even bigger then what we could ever imagine and now I think about that all of the time.
