This year in math we invested in the stock market. You got to choose 3 stocks you wanted to invest in. I invested in Regal Entertainment, Verizon, and Bank of America. This was a very interesting unit. Thursday was the date that we got all of our information from, but we checked every Friday. We first would get out our computers and log on to yahoo finance and search each on of our stocks to find out our prices were. Our teacher also made every single person follow The Dow Jones Industrial Average. The following paragraphs explain the stocks I invested in and how they did.
In math class we have been investing in the stock market, I invested in Regal Entertainment, Verizon, and Bank of America. I invested in Regal Entertainment because I enjoy the movies. At the beginning of the school year when we invested in the stocks Regal Cinemas had a very good past in the stock world. The concession stand has very high prices which gets a lot of money. I invested in Verizon because has been a very successful in the past. Verizon is the phone company that my family uses. The main reason that I invested in Verizon was because the iphone was coming to Verizon and that would be very good for the company. Bank of America was a stock that I picked because it is an international bank. Also Bank of America is all around the area. All of these stocks are a NYSE. Regal Entertainment, Verizon, and Bank of America all gained money and that is why I picked theses stocks.
I wouldn’t change my stocks but before I invested in them I wish I had done more research. I would get more shares within my company. I know that we had a certain amount of money but I would have been more careful when picking the number of shares. Before I decided in Regal Cinemas, Verizon, and Bank of America I think it would have been helpful if I had talked to people about good, bad, and popular stocks. I also would have asked someone what I should have researched within a stock. Comparing stocks could have helped me do very well. I would have seen what the good stocks have that one does not. I wished I had done more research before I invested in the stocks I did invest in.
Before you invest in a certain stock ask your parents and research to see if it really is a good stock. Go to a financial website to see if it is a good stock. Yahoo finance is a very good website if you are looking to research your stock. Go to a website and see the stocks charts from the past to see if the stocks you are investing have done well in the past. You should talk to students and adults to see what stock s they would suggest. Ask an adult if they are a part of the stock market. Ask an older kids id they invested in stocks if so ask them what the invested in.
We began this project in the end on November and ended in the beginning of May. This was my least favorite project in math this year. Although all of my stocks increased over the year. If I were to restart this project I would ask parents and friends for stocks to invest in. All of the stocks I invested in have a reason behind it. I invested in Regal Cinemas because there was a lot of popular movies were coming our and the concession prices were rising. I invested in Verizon because it is my family’s phones company and the iphone was coming out to Verizon. I invested in Bank of America because my family goes there and it is a very popular bank. Overall my stocks did very well this year but I would of taken advice before I had invested in a certain stock.

This is the new flag for Antarctica. In this flag it represents many things about Antarctica. The back round is 2 different colors. If you didn't know Antarctica is bright all summer and dark all winter. On the flag there is one side that has a sun with light colors like yellow, orange, and red to represent summer. On the other side is a moon with blue, and purple to represent winter. In the center of the picture is the outline of Antarctica. Inside of it are 13 flags. Those 13 flags represent the countries and continents that have a station in Antarctica. I think Antarctica's flag would look like that.

In science we are learning about Antarctica. It is very cold in Antarctica. This graph is about how low can people and animals can dive down in to the ice cold water (burr). The sperm whale can go the lowest. Followed by Weddell Seal. This is very interesting to study, if you ever go to Antarctica remember to pack warm!!!!

This was a fun project. it was very difficult to pick at first because there are so many places that you can hide. I had 3 or 4 ideas but I finally decided to do the clock. First I had to take the picture of my self and then the clock. So after we uploaded the pictures to the computer I went on Adobe Photoshop and opened the picture of me, cut out the background with a tool and pasted it on the clock picture. That is how I did the hiding in the art room project.

Reflection: Christmas

Christmas is such a great holiday. On of my favorites. My family has a special tradition that we do every year. When we wake up we have to wait for every single person to be awake. It is painful sometimes I have to wait for a hole 30 minutes which I think is painful. Then when every one is awake we go down stairs. When we go down stairs there is a string attached to our stockings that goes all around our house with presents that are unwrapped. After we go get our stuff out of our stockings we will open my mom and dads presents. When we are about half way through opening we will go and eat breakfast, then go open the rest of our presents. We enjoy the day with our family and then later that night we go to my grandparents house with my cousin and open their presents. That is a brief story of my Christmas day!

Living in Space

Have you ever thought of living in space? Well if you have you have to learn a lot. Some of the things might be: space clothes, food, working in space, hygiene, and sleep. Well they all have a story behind them and if you are going into space you will need to know.
When your in space you were clothing just like you would on earth. You can wear pants, shorts, t-shirt, and other clothing, it doesn't make a different except if you are space walking you were your suit. The clothing that you were in space is either made by the Russians or the Americans. When you are in space there is no washing your clothes. That is why space clothing is very important.
What I think the biggest thing in space is sleeping. When you are sleeping you are attached to a bunk. It is just like wearing a seat belt to bed, it is like that because there is no gravity in space so if you didn't attach your self to the bunk you would just float up. When you wake up, hygiene is very important, when you are in space. You can do exactly the same, you can; shower, go to the bathroom, shave, and brush your teeth. Just as earth you need a lot of sleep and in space you might need more.
In space the food is not very different than earth's food. Some of the food you eat in space comes in packets. The food is very dry, whenever you eat spaghetti you have to add water to it, then the food will become edible. But other foods like fruit and brownies you can just eat because it is already made. The condiments have to be in liquid form, ketchup, mustard, mayo, and other things like that. You have 3 meals a day just like earth. So as you can see astronauts do not go hungry.
It might be difficult to transfer from earth to space. Even though it might be very different, it is a life experience. After all that is what astronauts are trained for.

I enjoyed Mr. Gianforte's presentation, I learned a lot. The thing that I most enjoyed was learning about the different galaxies. I also enjoyed when he showed us his pictures through his telescope. I think that it was interesting to show us all the pictures that he had found. It also interested me to find out that Mr. Gianforte worked with the telescope at the University of New Hampshire (UNH). That is what I learned from Mr.Gianforte's presentation.

Beep beep beep! My buzzer is going off. As I pull my hand out hit the snooze button and I drag my feet out of bed flop my feet hit the floor. My eyes can't even open up the whole way. I get dressed walk down the stairs my legs can't even bend. I feel the cold wood on the bottom of my feet, then I feel the rug warmth. As I hear the egg crack on the side of the pan. Then I hear the egg and bacon sizzling in the pan. The strong aroma of bacon I smell as I come down the stairs. Then I sit down and and take a bite into the bacon, yum. Then I take a sip of my fresh squeezed orange juice. Now I go up stairs to brush my teeth, I first wet my toothbrush, then squeeze the toothpaste onto my toothbrush, minty fresh into my mouth, ahh. My mom puts her key into the ignition and vroom vroom I drive off to school.

Module 1 Letter

Dear Mom and Dad,
I have just finished module 1 in math. In this module I learned about patterns, probability, order of operations, exponents, and algebra. I like all of the subjects that we went over but if I had to pick my favorite it would be order of operations. I like order of operations because it comes very easy to me. Well, we learned it in 5th and 6th grade so I already knew some of it. But I learn something new each year. This year I learned about brackets in an equation. The way that brackets work is what ever is inside of the brackets is what you do first. My least favorite subject that we learned in math would be probability. I get most of the probability but I don't understand the difference between experimental and theoretical probability as well as all the other subjects.
In module 1 we had to do a project on probability. You had the choice of having a partner in class, so me and FSCA were partners. Our project was about Razzles. We bought two packages of Razzles, counted all of the colors and put them into the bag. We did our experiment and then we had to make a table of what our outcomes were. In our table we made a column of tallies and 2 other columns with theoretical and experimental probability. Then we had to write a paragraph on what we learned during our project.
In math our teacher taught us some songs and rhymes to remember some of the subjects we went over in class. Our teacher taught us a song for order of operations, it was a rap that had a lot of factual information about order of operations. Also, she taught us a rhyme to order of operations it was called PEMDAS. The rhyme was: please (parentheses), excuse (exponents), my (multiplication), dear (division), aunt (addition), sally (subtraction). Those are some of the the rhymes that we learned in math class.
The first subject that we learned in math in module 1 was bar and line graphs. When you use a bar graph it is for a survey and to put things into categories. You use a line graph when you are
taking information over time. That is what I learned in module 1 in math!

Dear Grandma the Clown,
I love your work. You are so funny, although I think you are a man. But that doesn’t matter, because everyone loves you , you are the best part in the show. So what do you do in real life?
Sincerely,
Celia Anderson
Dear Celia Anderson,
Well you are the 777 letter I’ve gotten today. But you are the only one that has asked me about my personal life so, thank you. First I am a man but isn’t that funny, “How did you know that?” Anyway my life is good and If you write me back I will tell you about the “circus life.”
Sincerely,
Grandma the Clown
Dear Grandma the Clown,
Of course i'll write back i always do. What do you mean when you say the "circus life"? Anywho i knew you were a man because when i went to The Big Apple Circus in Boston, MA and you could see the little scruffs of hiar when you went into the light.
Sincerly,
Celia Anderson
Dear Celia Anderson,
Thank you for writing me back. I siad the "circus life" because in the crowd everyone loves me, i think. Nut all the cast think i'm dumb and a really bad actor. Also thye think that i mess up what is going to come up next, but i go back stage and look at the script and they are the ones that are messing everything up.
Sincerly,
Grandma the Clown

Reasons for the Seasons

Fall equinox: in the fall the earth is directly under the sun. It is the shortest day in the year 12 hour day 12hr night. The reason for that is because when the world spins counter clockwise it will stop in a certain season. When it stops right over the equator in the northerner hemisphere it is fall.
Winter solstice: in the winter the earth is right beside the sun. The earth’s axis is pointed farther away from the sun so it is winter. In the southern hemisphere it is a lot closer to the sun so it is summer.
Spring Equinox: in the spring is just like the fall the sun is directly below the equator. The earths is pretty much equal hens- equi-equal nox-night. The equator is even with the sun so the hemispheres are equal and the seasons are the same.
Summer solstice: in the summer the sun is closer to the northern hemispheres. In the southern hemispheres it is winter because the sun is the farthest away from the southern hemispheres.

African Projects

Math: in math we are doing African patterns. On the pattern we are doing you are cutting out and shapes and moving them. You are moving them either by translating, reflecting, or rotating.
Language Arts: in language arts we are writing our own folktales. The types of folktales are; trickster tale, myth, fairy tale, a fable tale, and a tall tale. My folk tale is a trickster tale about a hippopotamus and a crocodile.
Science: in science we did an African animal project. The animal I did was a Hippopotamus. We had to collect a lot of note facts. also we had to do work cited for the websites and books that we used and we had to do a food chain about what eats it what it eats. Although it took a lot of time to organize and make the poster look good. It was a lot of hard work but it turned out to be a fun project.
Social Studies: in social studies we are traveling around Africa. We were assigned one country to go to, mine was Benin Africa. we had to make a map on the country and we had to make a map on it. It was a fun country to learn about because I would of never of gone their. Know I’m headed off to Zimbabwe Africa.
Technology Education: in Technology Education we are making an M'bira. We also are carving an African pattern into our M'bira. Mr.V also got metal for the strings on our M'bira to make the noises.
Music: in music we are learning African drumming. We are also learning about what the instruments are in Africa. Soon we are going to make our own African instruments. They are going to be a drum, square drum, flute, maracas, and a gourd with beads. I’m going to make a maraca.
Art: in art we are making African whistles. We are painting are African pattern that we did in math onto our whistles.
