UNH Field Trip Reflection

Article posted June 7, 2011 at 07:14 PM GMT • comment • Reads 1389

This is what I found most interesting about the field trip. What I thought was most interesting about the field trip was the ice core samples. I found out that UNH takes samples from all over the world and uses them to find out past events and weather. Recently a group of scientists went Greenland to take ice core samples. To take the sample you have to get a very powerful drill and drill into the ice. The drill can go down as far as you need it to. The drill is specifically designed so that the ice gets collected in the form of a cylinder in the middle of the drill. Then the drill is brought up with the ice cylinder in it and the ice is then shipped to a lab for tests on any information they can or need to get from it. That was what I thought was the most interesting thing that I learned on the field trip.

Stock Market Reflection

Article posted May 23, 2011 at 04:18 PM GMT • comment • Reads 1051

Have you ever wondered about how the stock market works? Well, in these next few paragraphs I will be telling you about all the little secrets of the stock market. Over the last few months, I have been examining the stock market and have become an expert on it. I will also tell you about how to choose the right stocks that will make you the most money. Now I am about to tell you from my own experience, how to become a stock market expert.

These are the companies that I chose for my portfolio and why I chose them. The first company that I chose is Home Depot. I chose this company because it is a nation company and it has struggled in the past so it was time for it to bounce back. The second company that I chose is Walt Disney. I chose this company because it is a world-wide tourist attraction, it makes billions of dollars a year, and it always has business year-round. The last company that I chose was United States Natural Gas. I chose this company because the shares were cheap and the profit was increasing. These are the companies that I chose and why I chose them.

This is what I would have changed in my investment if I had a second chance at this. I would want to find out more about the companies, what they do, what their history is, etc. I would also like to find out how and when the company became public. Another thing that I would change is to get more shares in the company that I trust the most. Once I found out more about the company, I would choose the company I trusted most and use most of my money their. I wouldn't get as many shares on the “wild-card” company. The last thing I would change is selling my stops at the right time. If my stocks were rising, once I thought that the profit was at the highest peak, I would sell my stocks to get the most money possible. These are the changes I would make if I got a second chance.

This is the advice that I would give to people who are investing in the stock market. My first advice would be to learn about your companies. Find some back-round information about the company and make sure you are 100% sure that you trust that this company will make you money. The second piece of advice that I would give to people is to manage your stocks. Make sure that you are checking in on your stocks frequently so you can stay updated on what is happening. Putting it on a spreadsheet would help keep all your information organized. The last advice that I would give to people is to sell your stocks at appropriate time. This way you will make the most money possible and you will be very happy about your decisions.

In the last few paragraphs I told you about all of the little secrets of becoming a stock market expert. I gave you advice on how to choose the right stocks, how to know whether you can trust your stock or not, and when to sell your stock so you can make the most money possible. I have already gone through this whole process so I feel that I gave plenty of information about the stock market. This is my reflection on my stock project and I hope that I helped you become more knowledgeable about the stock market.

Antarctica Flag

Article posted March 18, 2011 at 06:49 PM GMT • comment • Reads 993

This is my flag that I created for Antarctica. I made this flag because in class we have been talking about Antarctica and our teacher mentioned to our class that Antarctica didn't have a flag because it wasn't owned by anyone. So, she gave us this assignment, which is to creat a flag for Antarctica. I decided to creat a flag that has a big star in the middle, because a star represents independence. I decided to do the animals around it because there really isnt anything else there in Antarctica. I chose the animals that i did because they are the most known by people around the world that live down there in Antarctica. This is why i creted a flag for Antarctica and why i made it the way i did.

Animal Diving

Itis pretty amazing how far down you can go indert the surface of the ocean. When you go down far, you have to be able to hold your breath super long. It is pretty remrkable to see that a Sperm Whale can dive 2,950 feet under water! A Weddel Seal can hold there breath under water for 98 minutes, are you kidding me! That is more than an hour and a half. We as human can dive 120 feet andcan hold our breath for 20minutes, with the help with our dry suitand Scuba gear of course.

Eye

Eyelids, eyebrows, and eyelashes all offer protection for the eye. The schlera blocks light so just the right amount of light comes into your eye. The iris opens and closes the pupil,so the eye can let in enough light but not too much. The pupil is a hole in your eye that allows the light to come into your eye so you can see.

In these past few weeks we have been doing a project in art called "Hiding in the art room". During this time we were taking pictures of us in the position we were going to hide in, and a picture od where we will be hiding. We took the picture of ourself, cut ourself out of the picture, and then pasted it where we were hiding. I took a picture of me pretending I was the hands of a clock. Then I pasted myself on the clock and replaced the hands of the clock with me.

Living in Space

Article posted November 5, 2010 at 07:05 PM GMT • comment • Reads 893

For a little while now in class we have been learning about what it is like in space. I have learned many interesting things that I didn't know about, and now I want to learn more. I find space very exciting. If you want to learn a little more about space that you might not have known, then read this. Food in space is just like the food we eat on Earth. Like a camping trip, you have to bring enough supplies for your stay. But, you do get to eat better in space then you think. Astronauts can choose what they want to eat. This extends from anywhere between steak, shrimp, lobster, brownies, anything that an astronaut might desire. There is an oven provide on the space craft so you can cook or heat something up. Nutritionists on Earth make sure that the astronauts are staying healthy and making sure they eat enough and also they make sure that they don't eat to much. You see, eating in space is like eating on Earth except in space it is much more fun to play around with your food. The astronauts on the shuttle have living quarters where they eat, sleep, exercise, and relax. It is a very small and cramped part of the shuttle. When they sleep they have to be strapped into a wall, seat, or bunk beds. They they are also strapped into a sleeping bag when they sleep. There are only four bunk beds so the other astronauts would have to be strapped into chairs. When you exercise you get strapped into the floor and you jog or run on a jogging machine. You wouldn't lift weights because in space everything weighs almost nothing. This area of the shuttle is probably the best area because you can relax and not do any work. We all know staying healthy is important. We have to stay in shape, stay clean, and keep a balanced diet. On the shuttle you would do most of these things exactly the same way as you would on Earth. You have to brush your teeth so your teeth don't get cavities and your gums don't get infections or diseases. You also have to wash your hands, body, and you have to shave. People shave the same as on Earth but the others are a little different. Since you can't have water floating around in the shuttle, you have to use a sponge and dab yourself or your hands if you are just washing your hands. One astronaut a while back created shampoo that you didn't have to rinse, it just soaked into your head. Of coarse you have to go to the bathroom too, each astronaut has their own tube. They get strapped into the wall and put the tube to a “provided” area and the tube sucks the air and waste out into the waste-water tank. Now that you know quite a bit about what it is like to live in space, you can teach others this information and spread the word. All of this information comes from scientists, astronauts, and anyone involved with NASA. I hope you enjoyed this and I hope I taught you many, many thing that you might not have known. Maybe someday you will want to be involved with NASA. Well, my work here is done. Bye for now!
