Stock Report

I chose Starbucks, Apple, and Netflix. I decided to invest in these stocks because they all had new products out which would increase their popularity with consumers which would help the stock rise. I also chose these stocks because of their previous sales record which convinced me that I had a good chance of earning money.
I chose these stocks because of the the information I found through research. I chose Starbucks because we bought the stocks in the winter which is when Starbucks' stocks always rise. They also started selling a new coffee that was becoming very popular. I chose Apple because they started selling the iPad and new laptops. They also had just started their business relationship with Verizon which now carries the iPhone as well as AT&T. I chose Netflix because they just introduced a new initiative to be able to subscribe to Netflix and get movies directly from your TV. They have also become a more reliable company and have gained more costumers. These are some reasons why I chose these stocks.
I would not make many changes to my stock choices. There are only two things: buy more shares and change apple to caterpillar. I would buy more shares in the stocks I gained a lot of money from so I would get more. I would change Apple to Caterpillar because Caterpillar was a cheaper stock and gained much more money than Apple. Besides these changes, I would keep my stock the same way it is now.
The best advice I can give is to use a spreadsheet, get well known stocks, and do research before you buy. Spreadsheets are very useful because they do all the math for you. They are reliable and very efficient. Get well known you know and trust because they are much easier to research and find. Most importantly, do research to check how the stocks have done on the last year or so and use that information to estimate how the stock will so in the future. See if there are good reasons to buy the stock and expect to gain money.
I took all this in consideration when I bought my stocks. I decided to invest in these stocks because they all had new products out which would increased their popularity. In all,, I gained over $2,600 when this project was over.

This is a flag of Anarctica that we made in science class. We have been studying what scientists do when they are there. My flag has a blue background because Anarctica is full of blue water and ice. I put seals and penguins on my flag because they are the only animals there that live above the water. I made Anarctica green because it is land. This is my ideal flag of Anarctica.

This picture shows me hiding in the art room. To do this I took a picture of a cup then i took a picture of me. After that I photoshopped both of those to make it look like I was hiding in the cup.

The eye is made up of many important parts. There are parts that let light in and there are parts for protection. The capillaries bring oxygen to the eye. The lashes and brows are a form of protection for the eye. The iris lets light in through the pupil. The schlera blocks unwanted light from getting into the eye. The cornea is another form of protection as well as tears and the eyelids. The clear jelly inside of the eye (vitreous humor) helps keep the shape of the eye. The retina sends messages to the brain. The eye has many important parts.

Living in Space

Living in space is very different from living here on Earth. The biggest difference is that there is no gravity in space. Eating, clothing, and working in space can be difficult on the mission because of the loss of gravity. Astronauts have to get used to floating around, being strapped down to sleep, and having to go to the bathroom using a vacuum. In space, eating and drinking is relatively close to eating on Earth. Astronauts can eat most of their favorite foods bot with minor changes. For example, salt and pepper are in liquid form so what they would be eating would be a little bit wetter than usual. Water and things that they drink have to be adjusted, too. Many things have to be recycled so they purify their sweat and use it as water. It may seem unsanitary but it is a very practical way to get water that you can drink. While astronauts are in the space shuttle they usually wear normal outfits but with the NASA logo on them. They have no washing machine aboard the shuttle so they don't change clothes everyday. This is another way to conserve energy, time, and space. While the astronauts are on the launch pad they are wearing bright, puffy, orange space suits. The space suits protect them in case of an emergency during launch (gas leak, ice buildup, etc ). While they are working outside of the spaceship (in space) they are wearing big, puffy, white space suits that have oxygen tanks on the back of them. These suits are also designed to make the astronauts comfortable temperature wise. Space outfits are very reliable and efficient for the astronauts. Working in space is very technical. It takes years and years of training. Engineers are usually people that have the best chance to go on a space mission. While astronauts are in space they are usually repairing or building the International Space Station. Scientists are also chosen to go into space. They conduct experiments while they are up in space and then the results are used on Earth. Even medicines have been discovered in space! In conclusion, living in space is a lot different than living on Earth. Even when you go up for only short periods of time, it can be very difficult. Astronauts have to adjust to the food and the clothes and the work can be hard and challenging mostly because of the loss of gravity.

The Beach

The beach. Calming, when you hear the sound of the waves against the sand. The silent riptides waiting to sweep an unfortunate swimmer to their death. Seagulls squawk at each other, fighting over food while the little sandpipers run along the edge of the water, not getting more than their feet wet. Calming, dangerous, natural. The beach.

Mr. Gianforte’s assembly was very interesting. It was mostly about other planets in space besides ours, the chances of life being on them and how we could get to them, and how we could survive on them. He also told us about the equipment they use to see what is in space(telescopes)and about the equipment that they use to measure how far away a planet is from Earth. Learning about all of these things made me much more interested in space than I was before the assembly.

Letter to Mom

Dear Mom,
In math class we are learning about many useful things. In the beginning of the module, we learned mostly about graphs. We learned about how to graph data, construct graphs, and how and when to use a frequency table. We also learned what the difference is between the the two graphs and which one to use at the appropriate time. You use a bar graph when you are graphing data from a survey or pole and you use a line graph when you are graphing data over a specific time period.
We also learned how to make a model sequence with word sentences, tables, and graphs. This unit was mostly about turning sentences into tables and graphs. It was pretty easy.
After that we learned about using variables to solve number tricks. Using variables can make problems so much easier. We also learned how to predict the nth term in a number sequence (example: T=n+4-2 so the 15nth term is 17).Learning variables helped a lot with that.
Next we learned about computing with exponents. We had done this last year so it was the easiest for me and we spent the least time on it.
Then we learned about probability. We learned about experimental and theoretical probability and about estimating probability using 0 through 1 (example: 1/3). We did a project on this last week. I worked on it with my friend. My friend and I put 50 star burst’s in a bag. We put a certain amount of each color and recorded the theoretical probability. Then we picked out of the bag a certain amount of times and then we recorded the experimental probability.
The last thing we learned was the order of operations. In order to do this right all that you have to know is P.E.M.D.A.S. This stands for Parentheses Exponents Multiplication and Division Addition and Subtraction. We have been having a lot of fun in math class this year.
Sincerely,
Your daughter

Winter Woods
I can see trees, snow, and my classmates around me.
I can hear them talking.
I can hear the birds and the winds in the trees.
I can smell tree sap.
The sun shining through the branches.
I am cold and numb yet happy and content
Seedfolks
And a child shall lead them.
Lead them to friendships while she was sewing up the rips in the neighborhood.
While making people feel part of the garden almost like family.
How could she do this?
Curiosity was like a fever inside of me.
People came to see what was going on.
They would see the plants and the friendships that she has made.
She would make her father proud.
My Room
My room. Where I can relax yet be loud.
My room. Where I can sit at my desk and listen to music.
My room. Where I am free from quarreling with my brother.
My room. The one place I can be myself.
I can feel trapped in my room.
I can feel like there is no other place safe for me.
I can feeel special and important because I am incharge.
Because it is my room.
New Eyes
Shuffling through a sea of people.
All staring at me.
Because of those few differences.
Because of how I look.
Because of what I eat.
Because of where I sleep.
Shuffling through a sea of people with a heavy heart.

The Rock Cycle
A while back when I first started out as a rock I was in burning hot magma. Then I went through consolidation and all of a sudden I was an extrusive igneous rock. Then I was weathered by years of corrosion. Then I went through transportation, deposition, and lithification. I was finally a sedimentary rock! Then I went through metamorphism and I was a metaphoric rock. Then one day I melted and turned back into magma. I then crystallized and became an intrusive igneous rock. After that I went through metamorphism and became a metaphoric rock again. Then I melted and became magma for the third time. . Then I went through consolidation and all of a sudden I was an extrusive igneous rock again. Then I went through metamorphism and I was a metaphoric rock for the third time.

Reasons for the Seasons

The equinox is when summer turns into fall. The earth is at a 23 1/2 degree tilt. The seasons change depending on which hemisphere the sun is facing. 1: It is winter in the northern hemisphere because the North Pole is facing away from the sun. It is summer in the southern hemisphere because the sun is facing the Tropic of Capricorn. 2: It is vernal in the northern hemisphere and it is autumnal in the southern hemisphere because the sun is directly over the Equator. 3: It is summer in the northern hemisphere and it is winter in the southern hemisphere because the sun is directly over the Tropic of Cancer 4: It is autumnal in the northern hemisphere and it is vernal in the southern hemisphere because the sun is directly over the equator.

Science: In science class I made a poster about a Bush Squeaker. A Bush Squeaker a type of frog. The poster had a labeled drawing, food chain, and scientific classification on it
Language Arts: In Language Arts I wrote a folktale. It is a trickster tale. It is called how lion got his stripes.
Social Studies: In Social Studies I pretended to go on a trip to Africa. In my pretend trip I traveled to Egypt and Guinea-Bissau. I was in Africa for thirty days and I saw many interesting things. I also learned about their governments.
Math: In Math class I made an African pattern. I used translations (slide), rotations (turn), and transformations (flip).
Technology Education: In Tech. Ed.I made an m'bira. An m'bira is an African instrument. It is a thumb piano.
Music: In music I learned about many different African instruments like the shekere. I also learned many new rhythms on the drums.
Art: In art I made an African whistle out of clay. Soon I will paint a pattern onto it.
