There were a lot of different stocks to choose from in this project. Every company you could think of. Apple, dell, staples, cruise lines, you name it, they have it. It was sort of difficult picking only three stocks, because there were so many to choose from. I didn’t have much of a reason for picking my stocks. I picked Sirius XM Radio, Amazon.com, and F5 Networks. I picked Sirius XM Radio because Ms. Harte said a student last year did really well when they had a lot of shares. I made $718.08 on Sirius Radio. I also picked Sirius Radio because I was curious to see how I would do if I invested in a smaller stock. I’m glad I choose this stock. I also invested in Amazon.com, a website you can buy things off of. I picked this website because it is a well-known website to buy books for kindles and other stuff, kind of like eBay, but Amazon was making much more money. I also profited in this stock because it was around Christmas time when we got to pick, and I had a feeling that a lot of people would be using this website to buy Christmas gifts. I have $894.88 on Amazon.com, so Amazon made the most money for me. The last stock I profited in was F5 Networks. I didn’t really have a main reason why I invested in this stock, but at the time, it was doing really well. In the end it didn’t do as well as I hoped it would have, F5 Networks made $424.20 for me. Overall, I’m pretty satisfied with the stocks I picked.
The good part of stocks is that your investment cans double your money if you choose wisely. The bad part is you could lose your entire investment if your stock doesn’t do well. I wasn’t sure how my stocks would do, but thankfully, they ended up doing pretty well, because I ended up not losing one dime BUT if I could make changes to my portfolio, I would probably wouldn’t have done F5 Networks because I don’t really know anything about the company so how was I supposed to know if it usually did well? I would have done something I knew was successful like Apple or something. Also, Sirius XM Radio did do pretty well, but I wish I would have bought more shares from it because then I would have made more money. I wouldn’t change anything about Amazon.com, because I made the most money and that was a smart profit. Thankfully, most of these were pretty smart investments.
When we started learning about the stock market and how it worked, I didn’t know very much about any of it. We learned a lot of new things. One of the things we learned was vocabulary for the stock market like bear, bull, loss, profit, broker, and much more which has helped me understand the stock market a little bit better when I see it in the newspaper or on the news or something. Also, when we were keeping track of our stocks, we learned how to make spreadsheets on the computer to track our losses and gains and how our stocks were doing each week. We used all different kinds of formulas and such and it was a cool experience and it was really easy and simple to do and now easy to keep track of your stocks. Another thing that interested me in the stock market was just the stocks in general. I never really knew anything about the stock market and never really cared. Most of the stocks reflect on how the business is doing and how much money they are making. I never really knew what it meant or how it worked or anything, so this project has been very helpful in teaching me new things that I never really paid attention to. I’m kind of glad I know the importance of the stock market now.

This school year, we've been learning about the stock market. Each student had to pick three stocks and watch them grow. I invested in Amazon.com, Sirius XM radio, and F5 Networks. We followed these stocks and recorded their growth for 21 weeks. These are some reasons why I picked these stocks, changes I would make in this project, and some advice and things I've learned during this process of working with stocks.
Overall, I really enjoyed learning about the stock market. I'm glad I invested in stocks that did well. I feel like a learned a lot. From making spreadsheets, to learning about new companies that I've never even heard before, has been a great experience.

The reason my Antarctic flag is white, blue, and brown is because I believe that those are the only colors that are really in Antarctica. I also did brown because instead of water underneath the ice, like the North Pole, Antarctica has dirt and ground underneath. I also put snowflakes and the Earth on my flag because as you probably know, Antarctica has very much snow and ice so I thought it would be appropriate to put some snowflakes. I put the Earth because no one really owns Antarctica, we all share it.

Snowstorm
Before:
Usually before a snowstorm the sky gets really dark. Snow storms usually occur in the months of December-February. Sometimes, we are lucky enough to have a snowstorm on a school day, which is called a snow day and we don't have to go to school! The air is very cold and can be windy. Everyone does the snow day “rituals”. Putting a spoon under your pillow, flushing ice cubes down the toilet etc.
During:
Everything is more exciting when snow is falling. When we have snow, there are so many things to do. You can go skiing, snowboarding, sledding, ice skating, snow shoeing, and many other activities. You have to wear snow pants and a ski jacket if you want to play in the snow along with a hat and mittens for your head and hands to stay warm outside. What I don't like about snow is that it's super cold. It also gets very dangerous and icy.
After:
The smell of fresh snow on the ground and a blanket of white on the ground is breathtaking. Sometimes, when it gets warmer while it snows, it starts to rain, which make the snow disappear or slush. Snowplows clear the roads after a snowstorm leaving them snow free for safe driving. There are also snow shovels and snow blowers to clear the roads and driveways so cars can drive.

When I was hiding in the art room, I was located next to the Stonyfield yogurt cup. When we were doing this project, we used a program called Adobe Photo Shop. It made it easy to cut and paste pictures onto other pictures. It was a really fun program to learn to work with, It got confusing sometimes but in the end all of the pictures looked really good. It's quite difficult to find me in this picture.

The eye is an important part of your body. The iris, which is the colored part of your eye,is a muscle that opens and closes the pupil, which is a part of the eye that gathers light. The schlera is a part of the eye that blocks light and is the white part of your eye. I labeled the eyebrow because along with eyelashes and eyelids, they protect your eye from dust and tiny things you can't see that could damage your eye.

6 Word Memoir
Not allowed around oil tanks anymore.
The Present
As we go through the toll booth, my dad stops in the resting area and tells us he has something for us in the back of the car. As he opens the back my mind is racing. Is it a gift? A card? Late birthday present? It wasn't, at all. As he sat down and opened the cardboard box, a tear rolled down my cheek. It was Abby my dog. She passed away this summer.

Living in Space

Living in space is a real adventure. Getting to experience no gravity and getting to see the moon and planets up close. They also need to change the way they live. The way they go to the bathroom, the way they eat and sleep. Astronauts have to train to learn how to live on a space shuttle. It a real change from living on Earth. Here is some more information on living in space.
One thing that is different in space than on Earth is food. You would think it's totally different right? Well actually it's pretty much the same. The astronauts eat regular every-day things like brownies, fruit, and pastas. Space food has really changed. At one point it was all squirt able food. Gross. So the astronauts voted to make changes on every day needs, like food. Now they eat many different things like cheeses, macaroni, coffee tea, and juices. Salt and pepper is made into a liquid because if they tried to put it on there food it would just float off into the air. It would mess up equipment and get into peoples eyes which probably be painful. Women astronauts usually obtain 1,900 calories a day. Men obtain about 3,200 calories. They have regular meals like breakfast, lunch, and dinner. So overall, food in space has advanced and is just like food on Earth.
Hygiene is a part of everyday living that is very important. Brushing your teeth, taking showers, going to the bathroom, shaving, brushing your hair. You need to do these things. They have special hygiene kits that have everything they need. They have shampoo that doesn't need rinsing. So you don't need to use water. Obviously that wouldn't work because of the no gravity. Another change is going to the bathroom. They have special toilets they use. Each person has a personal toilet.
Sleeping in space is a lot different then on Earth. There is no gravity, so you have to strap yourself to the ground so you don't float around when you sleep. So the astronauts could sleep anywhere if they wanted to! All they have to do is be attached to something. When you are in space, you are weightless in space. They usually sleep in sleeping bags because they don't float off. There are only four bunks in the Space Shuttle. Astronauts have regular times to go to sleep and wake up just like on Earth.
Living in space can be fun, exciting, and thrilling. You get to see the planets up close, and there's no gravity. This is all how astronauts have to change the way they live to go with the no gravity concept. Liquid salt and pepper, rinseless shampoo, and private bathrooms is very different compared to everyday life on Earth.

Math Letter Module 1

Dear Mother,
How are you? Oh good, just checking. I would like to talk all about what I have been working on in math class. To be more specific, Module 1. We learned about data displays, sequences and exponents, probability, problem solving, and expressions and representations. I hope you enjoy my overlook of math class.
So to begin, I will talk about when we started working on tallying data, which is all about intervals, vertical axis, horizontal axis, frequency, bar and line graphs. We would collect data and make frequency tables, Frequency tables are when you make tallies into a table. It makes looking at data much easier. It has helped me a lot. A interval is a step between grid lines on a scale. A bar graph is a visual display of data that falls into distinct categories. A horizontal axis is a horizontal line one a graph that is labeled with the categories or with a scale and a frequency table is a table that shows how often each data item occurs. That was all we learned in the first part of Module 1.
Next we learned more about exponents and sequences. This was my favorite section of Module 1 because I enjoy exponents and trying to figure out sequences. So in this section, we talked about sequences called terms. A term of a sequence is a number indicating the position of a term in a sequence. As we learn more about this, we carry on to a bit of algebra. Like finding patterns and such. When we find a pattern, we make it into a algebraic problem like T (for term) N (for number sequence) and then add the other numbers to make it an equation. T= 6N is an example of showing how to set it up. This means T= 6xN.
After that we went over probability . I didn't really enjoy this section as much as I enjoyed the others. I don't enjoy anything to do with fractions. So anyway, probability is a number from 0 to 1 that tells how likely an event occurs. We did a project on probability. My group used gummy bears (thanks for buying them! ). We put the gummy bears in a lunch box, and tallied the number of times we got a certain color. We made a frequency table to show the data we collected. We added the theoretical probability and experimental probability. Experimental Probability is a probability determined by repeating an experimental a number of times observing the results. Theoretical Probability is a probability that can be determined without actually doing an experiment. If the outcomes of an experiment are equally likely.
The next thing we went over was one of my favorites. Order of Operations. Order of Operations is the correct order in which to perform the mathematical operations in an expression. How we learned it was PEMDAS. Parenthesis, Exponents, Multiplication, Division, Adding, and Subtracting. You go from left to right when doing the equation. So here is an example of an equation. 7(6+7)2-5=1178. So how you figure this out is remember PEMDAS. 6+7 is in parenthesis so you do that first. There is an exponent over that so when you get 6+7 (which is 13) square that number and you should get 169. Because multiplication is next in the order of operations, you would do multiplication. 169X7 come out to be 1183. Next comes subtracting. You subtract 5 from 1183 and get 1178. That's basically all there is to PEMDAS and order of operations.
I hope you kind of understand all about Module 1 and the first 2 months of math class! :)

I am now a clastic sedimentary rock. Every rock hast to go through the rock cycle, but not all of the cycles are the same. Here is my journey through all of the cycles.
1.) I have gone through much rain, ice, snow, and wind. That is the first step with is the Weathering process.
2.) I have to be transported back down. This is called the transportation process.
3.) I must calm down! Stop and settle. That is the deposition process.
4.) I have to harden, which turns me into a rock. This is the lithification process.
I am now a metamorphic rock.
I am now a non-clastic sedimentary rock. Now I have to go through a different cycle. These are the steps I have to take to become a true non-clastic sedimentary rock.
1.) My particles must go through chemical reactions, usually happening in the ocean.
2.) My particles have to go through the crystallization process. This is when I go into crystal form.
3.) I start to go into the lithification process. This is when the rock starts harden.
I am also a metamorphic rock.
Extrusive igneous rocks, like me, have to follow the same steps as I do to become what we are. We are another type of igneous rock. We are very different though. We are formed by magma, or other melted rocks. These are the steps I took to become an extrusive igneous rock.
1.) Very hot magma moves above the surface of the earth. (Out a volcano)
2. I lose heat here, just enough to cool down and crystallize.
3. I then turn into an extrusive igneous rock.
I am a metamorphic rock.
I am now an intrusive igneous rock. I am like an extrusive igneous rock, but one of our steps separates us. These are the steps that made me who I am, an intrusive igneous rock.
1.) Magma is formed from melting rock and moves toward the surface of the earth.
2.) The magma then cools below the surface.
3. When I, (magma) crystallize, I harden to form me, now an intrusive igneous rock.
4. I then consolidate. (Which is a pile on top of each piece.)
I am now another kind of metamorphic rock.
Metamorphic rocks are very common. Types are sedimentary and igneous rocks. I am now a foliated metamorphic rock, and these are the steps how I took became a foliated metamorphic rock.
1.) I was under heavy pressure. This is called directed pressure.
2.) From the directed pressure, some stripes formed into my shape, and now decipher me from other types of rocks.
I am now a non-foliated metamorphic rock. I don’t have stripes like a foliated metamorphic rock. This is how I was formed.
1. I went through a great amount of heat, but a relatively low pressure. This is called confining pressure.
2. I have to go through the crystallization process... again.

A Walk Down the Beach
I walk down the beach with my family,
staring at all the
little huts to my left.
I see many people with grubby,
torn clothes and swallow bodies.
"Come into store please," they all ask,
even when they all have the same material.
"Please, I give you good price."
They beg.
At the end of the day.
I have probably said,
"no thank you," about 1 zillion times.
Traveling
Great. I thought in mind.
My ears are popping,
my seat is being kicked,
I have to go to the bathroom,
but what else could possibly
make this plane ride any worse?
Of course, with my luck,
something will always be wrong.
A baby,
kicking and screaming right behind my chair.
A baby smell always comes with a baby.
If only I could
just get up to go to the bathroom.
Having a full bladder
doesn't help one bit. There is nothing that could make this any wors-.
Oh thanks Korbin
for spilling you water
all over my pants.
If only I carried an extra pair with me.
Oh well, I guess I will have to deal
with the ongoing crying, seat kicking,
whining baby,
ears popping, wet pants, and a full bladder for about 3 more hours. Great.
Lizzie
Do you remember? I do.
When you would play with me
Every weekend. You bad, warm puppy
Breath breathing on my face.
Your soft fur all over the couch
Now.
And when I leave you whine,
But I'll be back next weekend.
To play with you all weekend,
Smell your bad breath,
And clean up your soft fur
Off the couch.
Skiing
Do you remember? I do.
When frost bit are noses,
As we raced down the mountain?
Even if we didn't win,
Knowing it wouldn't matter.
I remember.
I remember when I met friends,
And lots of them,
Always cheering me on.
I do remember.
When I feel in love with Skiing.

365 days a year, the Earth rotates around the Sun in a 23.5 angle, casing the seasons to change.
Winter Solstice:The Winter Solstice happens when the Earth's axial tilt is farthest away from the sun. This brings longer nights and less daylight. Since the it gets colder, the sun is not up as high is it usually, giving our area less heat. The Winter Solstice is December 21 and when that happens the sun is pointing away from the North Pole.
Summer Solstice: The Summer Solstice happens exactly when the earth's axial tilt is closest to the sun. The Summer Solstice occurs in June in the Northern Hemisphere. It is December in the Southern Hemisphere. This day of the year is one of the longest.
Vernal Equinox:The vernal equinox ,also known as “the first point of Aries,” is a point at which the Sun appears to cross the celestial equator which is a invisible line that is in plane with the Equator, from south to north. This happens around March 21, which is the beginning of Spring in the Northern Hemisphere.
Autumnal Equinox:The Autumnal Equinox, which is September 22nd, the Sun appears to cross the celestial equator, which again is an invisible line that is in plane with the Equator, from north to south; this starts the beginning of Autumn in the Northern Hemisphere.

Science: In science class I made a poster on an African animal we were assigned. Mine was an African Wild Dog. We got to work on it in class all the time too! I loved studying the African Wild Dog! It was really exciting to learn about a new animal, and it was really cute so I am lucky I didn't get an ugly one!
Language Arts: In Language arts I wrote a myth on an African animal, why the hippo lives in water. We also read other African myths and stories.
Social Studies: In social studies I went to Djibouti, a small country in Africa, of course in my mind. We also go to different countries of our choice. We got a passport and everything! Next I am going to Madagascar. Another cool part is that we learned how to write checks!
Technology Education: In Tec Ed or Technology Education, we made African instruments called M'bira's. They are like finger piano's, but much smaller.
Music: In Music we did a lot of African singing and instrument playing. We learned about lots of cool African interments and how they make them. Like out of gourds and natural resources!
Math: In math we are pretending we have to pay for resources because we can't just go to Africa and get everything free! So we have to fill out expense sheets telling what we bought on the days we spent in Africa.
Art: In Art we are making African Whistles. We are going to make are own designs to put on the whistle to make it look like the African
pattern! So Cool!
