Some descriptions written by the members of Explorers about their learning buddies.

My buddy Jordan has beautiful blush red cheeks. She has golden and brown hair. She's got smooth skin. She also has sea water blue eyes. My buddy likes candy floss and smiggle rubbers. Jordan also likes green cameras and puppies and kittens. I think that it is cute that Jordan has two missing teeth and a little fringe.                By Lily Jaimes

Grace likes kangaroos and she has pink cheeks. She has brown eyes. She is medium height and thin. She has brown hair and she likes lizards. Grace is very flexible.                                   By Jayden

Learning buddy Maiya is very playful. She has a nice personality and very black hair. My learning buddy has brown skin. She has brown eyebrows. She wears white and black glasses. She is fast like a rabbit. She likes unicorns and dancing.                 By Nikau

Adjectives

Article posted August 17, 2010 at 02:11 AM GMT0 • comment • Reads 132

For written language Explorers have been learning about adjectives, as part of this we are describing ourselves and our learning buddies.

To practice we decided to describe Mrs Moor this is what we came up with:

Our teacher is Mrs Moor. She has hazel eyes, they are beautiful because they shine in the sun, Her hair is dyed blond and brown, it is long and curly. Mrs Moor hardly ever wears her hair down. She always has earrings in her ears and her clothes are pretty. Her favourite colour is purple. She likes teaching Explorers and loves it when we try our best. Mrs Moor comes to school everyday except when she has a course. She doesn't like loud noises and she smiles when we do silly or great things.

Irish Potato Bread

Article posted August 6, 2010 at 05:15 AM GMT0 • comment (4) • Reads 378

Mrs O'Connor came to visit us to teach us how to make Irish Potato Bread or Fadge. For the recipe we put in butter, potato, flour and salt. We mashed all the ingredients together then when the mix was right we needed to knead the mixture into a ball then we cut the mixture in half and rolled it out flat. Then we cut the mixture into shapes for cooking mostly triangles and half circles. Then Mrs Moor cooked the mixture until it was brown on both sides. We ate our potato bread hot with a little butter we thought that it tasted delicious and tasty. We discussed that potato bread doesn't rise like other breads because it doesn't have yeast in it. They grow lots of potatoes in Ireland where Mrs O'Connor is from so that is why they needed to find lots of different ways to use potatoes and potato bread is one of the ways they came up with. We are all keen to take the recipe home and show our families how to make it!

Explorers Bread

Article posted July 29, 2010 at 04:31 AM GMT0 • comment • Reads 269

Well today we made our bread using only the ingredients we thought were in bread. After we had tried our bread with our ingredients, we brainstormed some adjectives we could use to describe it we came up with words like yucky, yummy, doughy, gooey soft, sticky, special, crumbly and delicious. Most of us liked our bread but we have learnt that there are some ingredients missing and that we put in some extra ingredients that weren't needed. We are looking forward to following a recipe next time.

The Great Bread Tasting

Article posted July 27, 2010 at 02:18 AM GMT0 • comment (1) • Reads 95

On Wednesday last week we tried lots of different types of bread (some that comes from different countries). We tried ciabatta, wholegrain, white, tortilla, roti, pide, pita and bagels. Our favourite type of bread was tortilla almost half the class liked it best. We least liked wholegrain  and ciabatta. We are looking forward to learning more about bread and doing some baking too. We are also going to find out what countries belong to what different types of bread.

Leading Lights

Article posted June 28, 2010 at 03:06 AM GMT0 • comment (3) • Reads 248

On Friday our school had our 'leading lights' treat. We had a school disco and we danced around. We got lollies if we were dancing really well. The teachers gave out the lollies. We took turns dancing the seniors danced, then we danced. We made a circle and each class went into the middle and took turns dancing. We loved dancing and it was a great celebration and we had a good day. People were excited and were being very loud. The teachers danced with us too!
