It is amazing to me how each month has so many “national month” events. My favorites for May are: Get Caught Reading Month, National Bike Month, National Family Month, National Share a Story Month, National Smile Month, and International Victorious Woman Month.  With these in mind, I thought it might be fun to share a few of my favorite titles with great female protagonists.  Let’s get caught reading!

Chapter Books

·         Walk Two Moons  by Sharon Creech

·          Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O'Dell

·         The Breadwinner by Deborah Ellis

·         Riding Freedom by Pam Munoz Ryan

·         Emily’s Fortune by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor

Picture Books

·         Miss Rumphius by Barbara Cooney

·         Wilma Unlimited: How Wilma Rudolph Became the World’s Fastest Woman by Kathleen Krull

·         Thunder Cake by Patricia Polacco
