The Humbug is the best character in The Phantom Tollbooth. He can never make up his mind and is always into some type of trouble. When they went to King Azaz’s castle and ate dinner, Milo was asking if the journey to save Rhyme and Reason was hard. Milo said that it wasn’t, and the king said it was. The Humbug agreed with both sides.
When Milo, Tock, and the Humbug were driving past Conclusions, the Humbug was the first “creature” to jump to Conclusions. When they were in Conclusions, it didn’t look as nice and pretty as it from the outside. The Humbug has had a lot of adventures throughout the book with all of his new friends.
The Humbug was always funny, and a “great sport”, so he definitely my favorite character of the year.

When I went to Westminster Woods I had such a great time. My favorite part was when we went on the cargo net. Everyone charged at Mr.LaMarr, except me. I just sat on the net while bunches of people were tripping others with legs caught in the net. My favorite part of all trips was all of the hikes at Armstrong Redwoods. It was fun because we went off-track. Everyone was slipping and falling because it was not paved. We also got to eat starvation foods. Two of them were redwood sorrel and turkey tail. My favorite thing that we learned was that anybody can eat fungi but not all fungi because some are poisonous. My favorite memory from the whole entire trip, that I will remember when I am old and frail, is all of the glow-worms surrounding me on our night hike. When I held one, it squiggled in my hand. When we were walking, the cliff on the side was covered in glowing green dots.
I have so many memories. One of them is going to the tide pools. Nomad, my naturalist, would always be digging then pulling things out of the water. I saw sea stars, octopi, mussels, barnacles, and sea anemones. That isn’t all I saw; I just couldn’t name them all! I just had so much fun at Westminster Woods. It was the best trip ever!

If I Was A Miner

Mining in the California Gold
Rush
If I mined in the California Gold Rush, I would probably have a hard life. I would have to be watching my back for a thief. Mining tools were expensive to buy sometimes. It might be fun to pan or use a cradle, though it might be hard to learn how if I had never used one. Also some people are thieves, but the judge might think that I was the thief and hang me if I was in Hangtown. I could’ve gotten my hand squished by rocks like other miners did. Really, anything could happen when I was a miner. I really could have a hard life!
If I was a miner in the California Gold Rush I might also have a nice and easy life. I could just be walking to the camp and on the side of the path there would be 50 gold nuggets. Though the tools were expensive, when I used them I could find oodles of gold. The Long Tom normally would get me the most gold. The food that was most common was sowbelly and beans. That would be great for me because food with meat is my favorite. Sometimes it might be boring to have the same thing over and over again, though not for me! Maybe there was some person making pies so I would be in for a treat. Living a miner’s life might be easy too!

Dedication of The Cay

Want to know why Theodore Taylor dedicated the book, The Cay to Martin Luther King Jr.? He dedicated the book to Dr. King because the book was about racist kids and Dr. King tried to stop that from happening for all ages. Dr. King is like Timothy, the black man, and the white people that didn’t like Dr. King are like Phillip, the little white boy. He is an eleven-year-old boy, and he is one of the main characters in the story. The story is based on him. Timothy is trying to help Phillip just like Dr. King was trying to help people like Phillip. He helped Phillip by building him a rope to find his way around. Dr. King was trying to have blacks work with whites and to not treat people differently because of their skin color. He was working on that for his whole life, even when he was a little kid! The problem is solved now. Black people can go to the same school as white people can. I am glad that black people and white people now may accept each other’s culture. It is great that Theodore Taylor dedicated The Cay to Martin Luther King Jr. Written by,
